I lived in Satellite Beach in the 60's and 70's when my father was in the Air Force. Thank you so much for this excellent tour! I'm really glad the town counsels have limited the number of condos and preserved so much of the natural land. Everything looks clean and well kept. It makes me want to visit!
Come on down linahill7341. If you are not here any more, you are probably in a colder climate, so a visit to FL is always a pleasant reprieve from the cold...although I would wait until summer is over!
we recently stayed in Melbourne (May 2023), first time in this particular area. We went to Patrick AF a few times, and took this very drive. Next time in the area we will be staying somewhere in Satellite.
Satellite Beach has a certain "small town America" charm that's hard to find along the Florida coast. It has not become heavily visited by tourists, so it has been able to maintain its personality.
This is a great video! I lived in Satellite Beach, Florida from 1969 to 1971 when my late father was in the Air Force. He was stationed out at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station but we actually lived in the old Patrick Air Force Base south housing units which are now torn down and gone. I have been to every beach that you turned in to. We were literally walking distance from Hightower Beach Park. That is paradise for a kid in elementary school during the summertime being able to walk to the beach from our house! For the most part, the area still looks the same but pretty much all of the businesses that were here are now gone. And a lot of the buildings and condos that are now there were not there when we lived here. Also, it was not called Hightower Beach Park when we were here. It was only sand and water and the restroom and shower buildings were not there that I can remember. What I really like about the city of Satellite Beach is all of the beach parking is free! So during the summer months and especially on the weekends, you pretty much have to get there early to get a parking spot unless someone leaves when you pull in! State Route A1A is my favorite part that I love to drive on my summer vacations. I come there every June for a one-week summer vacation, but I actually stay in a hotel in Melbourne. That is merely 15 or 20 minutes from Satellite Beach. Wile there, we saw quite a few rocket launches from the beach. Some of them were from The Cape and others from Kennedy Space Center in Titusville. During those years, many people had small transistor radios in their hands listening to the broadcasts! That was a really exciting time to have lived there. That was when the historic Apollo space program was in its prime and in full swing! I am so glad my father was stationed there because I would have never had the opportunity to seen and lived in such a dynamic place as a kid! I have driven into both Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral along A1A many times just for the mere enjoyment of it! In Satellite Beach, they have a very nice and small ice cream shop named The Surfin' Turtle right on A1A. There is another one in the city of Cape Canaveral. Central Florida is full of ice cream shops as you probably already know, even in Melbourne! That's the place to really go during the summertime, especially after taking a good swim in the ocean! Surfin' Turtle is almost literally walking distance from Hightower Beach Park. Regarding the beaches again, there are quite a few other beaches that are right across the street from Patrick Air Force Base which also have free parking! The only drawback is some of them have restroom buildings and some of them don't. But as I mentioned, Hightower Beach Park is my number one beach spot to go to during the summer provided that I can get a parking spot! If the lot there is full, I go to either Pelican Park or one of the other military beaches across from Patrick AFB with a restroom building. I live in Southern C.A. and my long range goal is to move back out to Central Florida specifically to Satellite Beach if I can a home to move into to. Once again, this is a great video. Oh, I forgot to mention that that the reason I love Hightower Beach Park so much is I have so many fond childhood memories of it! I am looking forward to coming back out there in June!
@@SatelliteBeachLive Nothing to it! You're more than welcome! I forgot to mention that what really sucks about all of the buildings and condos on Highway A1A is that most of the view of the ocean while driving the highway is blocked. When we lived there, we could see the ocean for most of the drive going either direction. That's the main thing that I miss about it. But, that's progress for you I guess!
@@kenpalmer1965 Sounds like you could do a history of Satellite Beach, based upon your experience. If you are ever here and are inclined to bestow your knowledge on the UA-cam audience, we could do a video of your recollections while driving around town!
@@SatelliteBeachLive Hey, that sounds like a good idea. I have only one problem. I do not own a camcorder as you do. So, if we did do a ride along, you would have to do the filming as I drove. As I said, I am coming this June towards the end of the month. I will be picking up a rental car from Mlebourne Airport after we land. How would we go about doing this? How would I contact you? And how long would it take for us to conduct the presentation? I will be there for one week. Let me know.
Just drop me a note at satellitebeachlive@gmail.com and we can talk about it over email. I have all the camera equipment and audio recording equipment, so don't worry about that!
Thanks Pam. Satellite Beach is a special place, and I think it's interesting for others to learn about it. Hard to find small town America on the coast of FL.
I’m a native. Born and raised in Brevard. It’s very sad how so many people have moved to this county. It used to be small and wonderful. Now full of traffic and people
Well, I don't know how long it's been since you have lived here, but when you compare Satellite Beach with other towns on the east coast of FL, it's not so bad!
Hey Bob. Is Satellite Beach golf cart friendly? If you live on Tortoise Island could you take a golf cart to the beach or farmers market? Thanks for the tour.
Safest town in Florida, really? I know driving on A1A in Satelitte Beach especially...is dangerous. So many people speed there all the time. A young girl was hit and killed crossing the street at a crosswalk with signage. Riding a bike on this road!? Would never do it. Ive lived here a long time.

Holy moley I miss living in Florida! Thanks for the drive
Come on down Josh!
Great place!!! I lived there in the early 70's. Going there soon.
I really like living here!

I do too!

Thank you Sir for the sweet tour 💟
Glad you liked it. More to come...
Thanks for the tour, Bob. Excellent commentary and video production. :) I look forward to the next tour!
Thanks for the accolades Bob. These things are always more work than they look, but I try to produce a good product that is entertaining.
So do I!
Thank you, Bob. It all looks beautiful. I can't wait to see it up close and in person.

Wow amazing
Glad you enjoyed it Wendy. It's another perspective on this little coastal town I call home.
It looks very relaxing and peaceful I would give anything to hear the sound of the ocean and birds all year round
nice clean parks

Yes, you can easily do that trip. Golf carts are a common sight, but it's not the standard of transportation (yet)!
My ex husband lived on Park Ave. I was from PalmBay.
Patrick air force base across the street or A1A
Video 😮😮😮😮
And watch out for the speed traps
Absolutely. Satellite Beach Police don't have much crime to worry about, so speeders are logical targets!
I Prefer Hallandale beach Florida more it’s just a beautiful city and is growing in businesses and communities.
Indian harbour beach in the middle
What happened people car a1a ❤

AIA is so dangerous. People like to hang out in the middle as they wait for traffic. It's so scary. Many people have died. So sad. We live here.❤😭
You forgot erosion issues
Hi, What do you mean by erosion issues PeterDurkin?
Well I lived in indian harbour beach in the early 90's and erosion was a problem then
@@PeterDurkin-z1x Do you mean beach erosion? That is a problem!
