UPDATE- After just a few months with this exhaust, the entire inside of the muffler is COVERED in rust, so I had to uninstall it. Unfortunately, this seems to be a recurring issue with this particular exhaust because it’s made from mild steel and not stainless steel. Vance & Hines said that they’re getting with their engineering team to see if they can also coat the inside of the pipe to prevent this issue in the future. Until then, I unfortunately can’t recommend this exhaust anymore. BUT with that said, I’ve since found another great exhaust made by Coffman’s, swapped to that, and absolutely love it. It has better build quality, more benefits, and costs $100 less. You can check out the install/review of that exhaust here!- ua-cam.com/video/mOQBVfBAYAI/v-deo.htmlsi=dmEtWyyefP80zoAA
When tinkering around or changing an exhaust on any modern motorcycle 🏍️ you want to let the bike idle for 10-15min before reving or riding. This allows the ECM computer to get used to the air and fuel and to the exhaust itself. I did this when I changed my stock exhaust on my 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 to a Red Rooster exhaust. Great video. Great sounding V&H. God bless 🙏
I love the sound of the new exhaust. I was kinda sad to see the old one go due to the chrome on it, since it reminded me of the CL's from the 1960's/70's. (But the new exhaust looks sharp anyway.)
I love your videos so much i actually bought my rebel 300 a week before you posted the video of getting Nina’s. I was just like her a little scared and nervous to ride but watching you and Nina really inspired me and now watching KomotoVlogs has inspired my gf to ride! Thank you guys so much for these videos.
You mentioned that you would have preferred a lower exhaust. The setup on your bike is intended to make it look like the Scramblers of old, but the disadvantage is the same now as it was then. It's a hot little booger right next to your right leg! Looks super cool but is a hot pain in the ass (literally) in the real world. I prefer the exhaust setup on the CB500F, but I prefer the layout (especially the seat) on your Scrambler. So...the ultimate would be a mosh of those two bikes! :)
Bro i havent seen your videos in about 6 months or so (been on my grind). Happy to see you still going but even more than that going so well! The Intro part of the video shows growth and that your decision to focus more on UA-cam was a good one. Keep fighting brother!
That exhaust looks and sounds good 👍 Another option for a low system would be to make or buy a short midpipe using a suitable bend to fit with a shorty tailpipe onto your original header. There is a cl500 forumn now and already somene has figured out how to improve the front suspension.
Do what I did with one of my bikes. I used a cardboard tube cut to the angles I needed and took it to a muffler shop, to make that 2 foot pipe with the bends I needed. They had the correct size pipe. Made the bends to match my mock up pipe, and they had an expanding tool they opened up the end to my measurements, I needed to attach to the head pipe. I fabbed up a top mounting bracket that my buddy welded to the pipe. Then I bought a universal aluminum SuperTrapp muffler to fit my pipe. looks and sounds great.
I just purchased my first bike and went with the SCL500! The only thing I don’t love about it is the stainless heat shield. However, in lieu of replacing it with a slip on, I want to paint the heat shield with a high heat paint or bake on enamel. Do you see any issues with this?
Man Oh man! You are making me want a second bike to tinker on. Been eye-balling the KLX300SM for just that. I have a BMW K1600B that really doesnt have anything I want to add/tinker with. Enjoying the content!
I think the arrow exhaust sounds a bit better to my taste. It gives the bike more bass and tames it a bit more than this v&h, this one seems too open and blaring loud... but to each their own... looks great though!
Hello, may I ask about the original brand of your honda cl300? Does it vent air from both exhaust holes? In the Chinese version, the lower hole is blocked.
Did you have a silver gap (where the old Exhaust slipped on)between the old exhaust and the slipped on Vance and Hines? Did you just paint it matte black?
I really think the design of the muffler and the reason why the bottom is bigger is due to the fact it's a stress point because the fact that it goes all the way up it and the weight of it can easily snap it so I believe it strengthen the point in the exhaust to prevent it from snapping from the vibration and bumps.
There are enough connection points on the stock unit so that there isn't going to be any undue stress on the lower portion of the pipe. Factory mufflers are designed to make the bike as quiet and have less heat radiate off of them, as well as emissions and fuel economy all mixed in. This is why they are the way they are, and it is one of, if not the first mod motorcycle owners make.
@@jmackinjersey1 The catalytic converter is still there. Most of the weight is definitely vibration dampening and heat insulation. And sound baffles. I noticed that Vince has no baffles whatsoever.
this may be a dumb question since im not well verse in motorcycles but do you have to tune this bike for bike for the new exhaust or just plug and play?
Dude, about "something coming out of the exhaust" at 16:30. You need to put a copper grease on that joint to seal it tightly. It's used in high temperature environments like this one.
ahhh i love the look of this muffler, but how much louder does it get? I live in a neighborhood with really friendly elderly neighbors, so I don't want to disturb them with loud noise. If you could tell how much louder it gets i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Honda (and most other manufacturers) de-tune their products to meet standards of EPA and other such agencies. That means, leaner fuel mapping, stuffed-up exhaust, denser air-filter, colder spark-plugs, etc. Therefore, there are a few things that can be readily “upgraded” to maximize performance without sacrificing reliability or negatively impacting the environment (too much). First, i like to replace the stock spark plugs with iridium plugs (if available for the vehicle). Though, these can be pricey ($12-15 per plug), they last 100,000 miles, produce a brighter, more uniform, snappier ignition, that improves mpg and bhp! The plugs make a noticeable difference that provide consistent performance. Next, the “Booster Plug” is a plug-n-play super easy install that enriches the fuel-mapping without negatively impacting the motor’s reliability or mpg (actually may increase mpg in some scenarios). [A “Power Commander” performs a similar function but is a more invasive install as it is piggy-backed onto the ECU which may void mnfcrs warranty and can damage the bike if not programed by a professional mechanic). Next, an oiled air-filter, such as a K&N filter charger, improves air intake volume/velocity and claims to unleash upto 5 bhp. But be warned, if the filter is not regularly cleaned and re-oiled, (especially if bike sees excessively dusty conditions), piston ring damage is possible … ask me how i know! Lastly, the exhaust pipe upgrade sounds awesome, enhances the appearance and can open up 1-3bhp but only if a free-flowing air filter is installed. The things listed above will incrementally improve the overall performance of the engine without breaking the budget. Nice bike and can’t wait to see more videos of it’s make-over!
what a cool ride! I gotta say, thanks to your videos I bought a XR150L for myself instead of a TW200.... and a Grom for my old man with some knobbier tires for local trails.. I own a RE INT650, but this SCL500 really caught my eye. If you ever come up to PA let me know, you can save the hotel bills and chill in the woods with bikes, beers and fire ;-)
Did you need a muffler gasket for this? If so which one did you use? Hard to even find the SCL500 listed on most sites. So finding the right parts is tough.
Your video convinced me to buy the V&H exhaust for my CL500. I am having exactly the same issues as you, the exhaust is scratched, the heat shield screws are missing and there is some kind of liquid coming from the joint. I am more concerned about the leak. Did you manage to find out the cause of the leak and fixed it?
Uhm just asking, why do they don't make the parallel twin under 500cc a crossplane crank? I mean i saw CFMoto do it to their 450 SS and 450 NK. Same bike btw, just the fairings.
Looks good but too loud. Likely will beat you up and cause fatigue on longer rides. Earplugs is a real good idea if you get these. Do they offer a baffle?
The V&H exhaust looks and sounds MUCH better than stock. It actually sounds much like my old 1972 CB450 when the baffles were removed. I wish that Honda had taken more styling clues from the original CL450 Scrambler. HP?

That Vance & Hines sounds like the stock Honda Scramblers of the late 60's. Awesome.

ironically a comment above yours is talking about how the new exhaust sounds like the ones from the 60s.
@@avxy3632 Back in the 1970s a friend of mine had a CL350 but I really can't recall the exact sound of it now since it has been so long since then.
The new exhaust makes the bike sound and look way better. 👍🏼👍🏼
Does it fuck
Love your channel. You're not a "bullet bike, all others suck" kind of guy. You give honest reviews regardless of manufacturer. Thank you, sir.
That means a lot, thank you!! Honesty always comes first. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

What is it like for the passenger with the exhaust being right there?
Haven’t tested it yet, but it’ll be interesting to see!
Looking forward to this test as well!

That exhaust made all the difference! Looks 1000% better
Looks nice sounds awful
That exhaust looks and sounds good 👍

Is it not modeled off the Honda rebel? So perhaps rebel exhaust could be made to fit they're low slung
How's the rust situation on the non-stainless exhaust?
Just ordered for mine! Waiting for some more videos of this bike man. No one else is modifying this bike right now.
Just bought one of these with the same exhaust from the Dealership brand new. Love it so far!
I like your enthusiasm over the packaging.
A really nice presentation. Thanks for making this video.

I must admit, you have me wanting one of these bikes! Subscribed to see where you go with it from here.
I used to start my dad's CL450 when he wasn't home. I approve of this muffler lol.
Did V&H expected you to use the screws holding the old heat shield for the new one?
Man Oh man! You are making me want a second bike to tinker on. Been eye-balling the KLX300SM for just that. I have a BMW K1600B that really doesnt have anything I want to add/tinker with. Enjoying the content!
Dude that sound freaking awesome well worth every penny you paid and then some
I think the arrow exhaust sounds a bit better to my taste. It gives the bike more bass and tames it a bit more than this v&h, this one seems too open and blaring loud... but to each their own... looks great though!
Same. I prefer a quieter exhaust.
Hey what kind of tank bag is that? I have one that straps around my cl500 tank but I like the looks of that one!
Hi. Has the leak at the connection between the exhaust and the manifold disappeared? Mine is leaking too :/
I'm super glad to see you copped this. Most likely my favorite moto channel, and you got a bike I'm interested in to stare at and oggle haha.
How comfortable is the seat on this bike? Better than stock Rebel 500? Comfy enough for longer trips?
It sounds good.No back fire? Many times when exhaust are installed bigger jets or fuel regulator has to be installed.

Did you have a silver gap (where the old Exhaust slipped on)between the old exhaust and the slipped on Vance and Hines? Did you just paint it matte black?
Just wondering were any of the bolts on the original muffler could be used to secure the heat shield on the V&H?
Does the bottom of the pipe bend burn your sure on the vance and hines? no cover down low near the peg?
How does it affect passenger seating though? The heat shield seems needed if you have a passenger
As far as your bikes go, the SCL500 is my fav. It has such a classic look.
Yep agree , just a opinion, I would like to see the lettering “ Honda “ in white on the back seat as a throw back to the 1970 .
Bro I like the looks and the sound of the Van'ce & Hines Exhaust
Nice job on the comparison video!
Thanks so much!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Have to say that exhaust almost makes me want to pick up the CL500.
I had a CL350 way back in the 70's
which size of wrench we need to remove bolt clamp . I checked 10mm socket. is that all? thanks
Moto sounds so good, his Queen came to check out... Which seals that indeed it sounds awesome....
Amazing video brother...
Looks and sounds awesome couldn’t wait to see the vid!
Now, Chrome piece + new exhaust. Perfection ❤
Actually, the way it looks already is growing on me
With the exhaust positioned so high, how does the passenger not get burnt on the right leg?
Looks great! I am excited for my CL500 videos! Just signed up to be a Patreon Member!
Big improvement both sight & sound.
this may be a dumb question since im not well verse in motorcycles but do you have to tune this bike for bike for the new exhaust or just plug and play?
If you have a minute, can you measure the decibel level of this new exhaust? 20inch from the tip, idle and revs? Thanks!
Man that sounds so good and looks much better!!!!
I just picked my SCL up and love it. Does the new exhaust overheat the heel of your boot on a long ride?
Hey @lifeofburch. I just picked up my own 500. Love it. But yeah the grips are super “tiny” what do you intend to move over to ?
Dude, about "something coming out of the exhaust" at 16:30. You need to put a copper grease on that joint to seal it tightly. It's used in high temperature environments like this one.
Are you going to do a fender delete? I plan on getting this bike and am really wanting to do that
Love the sound of that v&h!!💥💥
Makes want to get one. 👍🏿
Yep, you made it louder, good work
New to the channel, you got me hooked with that exhaust sound 😵💫
@lifeofburch what about the passenger? Is there less heat protection for them?
Cartwheel it backwards down a hill a few times and you won't mind the little scuffs
Off topic, for a daily, off highway commuter, rebel 1100 or cl500? I’m seriously torn between both and any input would help
are there any options to mount a bag or luggage rack on the exhaust side? seems to me like it's in the way of things ?
That sounds amazing!!!!
I Love my Vance & Hines on my 2017 Rebel 500. V&H Pipe never fail.
Love the look, really cleans the lines up. Not sure if I like the sound though. I'd want something a little more subdued, or maybe a grumble.
ahhh i love the look of this muffler, but how much louder does it get? I live in a neighborhood with really friendly elderly neighbors, so I don't want to disturb them with loud noise. If you could tell how much louder it gets i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
4:45 is your chain at the right tension? it's a new bike, so it ought to be, but that looks kinda loose.
I've seen reviews that the exhaust is rusting. Was wondering if you had any problems?
Is there any removable silencer inside this exhaust???
The exhaust was a good addition to your new bike.
Hi! How is it for the passenger? is it comfortable? is it likely for them to burn their legs? thanks for your videos!!!

Is that exhaust safe for the passenger? As i can see there’s no heat shield or any cover on it. :/
in a fan of the briefcase look but love the sound so much better. any improvement in the flow, feel of the bike? does it add any hp?
If I was gonna pay 500 bucks it would be a complete exhaust not just a slip on, jeeze.
This is good but I love it more when the exhaust is low. Maybe a fatbar handlebar will suit on this bike to make it more look good
Do they make a full exhaust as well?
Did you need a muffler gasket for this? If so which one did you use? Hard to even find the SCL500 listed on most sites. So finding the right parts is tough.

What is the dB of this exhaust? I wonder if this is street legal in my country.
I really want the one for the 1100. Gotta same up my pennies tho!Love the look and sound. And u know V&H is quality. 👌🏽
Vance n Hines looks Awesome!!
