How did rescued sibling kittens reacted when they reunited?

  • There is a time gap between the two sibling kittens rescue. After we took the second kitten from the rocks we visited vet and proceed to home. Kittens were separated for a while and we didn't know how they would react when they reunite. Would they remember each other, would they feel nervous or jealous? #rescuekittens
    We decided the first rescued kitten's name ☺️
    Her name is Uni. It means sea urchin in Japanese. Because she was rescued from the coast and because of her tentacle like fur she reminds an urchin.
    How would you call her sister?
    I will update you guys about the progress of their relation.
    Edit: We named the sibling cat Nami, which means wave in Japanese.

    Uni was reacting to the smell of the flea/parasite control on her fur when she came home from the vet She could not smell Nami's natural smell, and it scared her. I am sure they became partners in crime and very playful together now. I love how gentle this man is with these cats. He is a perfect cat person, and bless him and his partner for rescuing these adorable kitties.

    I gave a kitten (Mercy) fm a litter of 4 to a friend. A few weeks later, she decided she needed one (Hope) more of the litter. Initially, Mercy did not want anything to do with Hope and treated her rudely. After a few days, Mercy came to recognize just who Hope was. They are fast friends today!
    It takes time for the adjustment of #2 to new surroundings and for #1 to adjust to no longer being the "only" fur purrson in the home.
    Great job!

    great documenting - lovely kitties ! i love the hissy fits and puffy tails cats put up for territory... years ago i brought in 3 cats within weeks from a shelter i volunteered at. one was so traumatized from the shelter she had to stay in the dog kennel we set up till she felt safe to come out weeks later - the other 2 kept their distance for a couple of days, always watching each other's moves - and finally gave in to curiosity and play. they were adult cats, and became great playmates shortly after - a most rewarding experience :)

    They will be friends again soon enough. When cats have been separated (and especially taken to the vet), their scent have changed. It's great then that you pet them both and let them smell the other cat's scent on your fingers (like you did). It's also good to feed them or give them treats next to each other... And also play alot with them. Use a DaBird. That's most cats favourite toy and you can interact with both of them at the same time. Also buy Feliway to plug into your sockets at home. Feliway diffuse a synthetic hormone equal to a cats "feeling well" hormone. That will help them to relax and feel more secure at home. Also, buy toys for them to play with! I don't see any toys lying around which there should be. Toy mice, ping pong balls, furry mice and also special cat furniture that they can climb and scratch upon. Get more litter boxes as well. With 2 cats you should have at least 2, but preferably 3 so that they don't "do their business" else where. Good luck! It's wonderful to see them together again. 👍😊❤️

    • @KHH595
      @KHH595 4 роки тому +23

      Feliway is how I got my cats to get along! After a month of slow introduction they were still hissing and spitting at each other but the day I plugged in the Feliway they began playing. It really works!

      Lina T three cat boxes? The general rule is one box for two cats. I currently have ten cats and five boxes. Three is excessive.

    • @linat2478
      @linat2478 4 роки тому +49

      @@kimberlyrea3331 Maybe 1 box for 2 cats are enough where you come from, but in Sweden (where I come from), we recommend 1 more litterbox than the number of cats you have. If you have too few, there's a risk of the cats doing their business elsewhere. 5 litter boxes for 10 cats are not enough, unless you're always home and your cats are also able to go outdoors. I have 8 litterboxes and 13 cats and that's too few if all of them are indoors. It works though, since I'm home most of the time and they're also able to go outdoors if they want to. Some cats don't want to go on a used litter box and some want one box to pee in and one to poop. If you can't provide that, you simply can't blame them if they do their business elsewhere. That's my opinion anyway and that's what most cat organizations recommend here in Sweden.

    • @fighterflight
      @fighterflight 4 роки тому +18

      Kimberly Rea I heard 1 more than total number of cats too I just have one cat with 2 boxes if I had 10 cats I would not just give them 5 boxes that’s almost mean. having to share too few boxes gives them anxiety. they’re territorial. cream heroes has 7 cats and many boxes in the apt at least 8

    When I had a multiple cat household, every time one of them had to go to the vet, there would be about a week of hissing/growling/screaming from the other cats. It's like when they're gone, the others think they've died and the ghost is back to haunt them! I got so tired of the ruckus, I started boxing them all up and taking ALL of them to the vet together and paying the boarding fee for a day or two, with all of them together in the same cage. No more theatrics when they all got home.

      Jason Koukas I agree. I’m cringing, watching them trying to force a relationship. Especially with the growling & hissing. The excessive petting overstimulated them too. Definitely didn’t help.

    • @ballisticbee6001
      @ballisticbee6001 4 роки тому +12

      J T i agree with everything besides the petting part. The way he pet both of them and let them smell the other cat on his hands was great. It lets them get used to the smell more, especially coming from kind hands that they know don’t mean harm. But yeah, pushing them closer together when there were clear signs of “stay the fuck away” from the black cat was not a good idea. I was amazed that they moved the cats so close together after basically just meeting.

    • @jt2553
      @jt2553 4 роки тому +6

      Ballistic Bee I agree with what you said about the petting as far as scents and even equal attention. What I meant is it it seems they’re constantly doing it as if to prevent the one nearest him from fleeing. I think it’s Jackson Galaxy who said that too much can be stimulating, possibly enhancing fear and anxiety instead of calming them. It felt like they might’ve tried forcing the bonding to catch on camera.

      They should have introduced the new cat to one room in the house and let cat number one smell it through the door, then put cat number one in room and take the second cat out of it. Let them smell each other in a neutral space and then after a few days put cat in carrier and let set for 30 minutes at a time or so in same room to build confidence and wait till the first cat isn't spitting mad at the sight/smell of the carrier.

    I would put the sibling in a different room, letting the cage stay in Uni's room so she can get used to siblings smell first. In a few days Uni will stop being scared and threatened and will look for the sibling. Also I can't see any toys. They should have toys to play with, that can ease the tension and get them used to eacht other much easier. This way is too stressful for them.

      💜 I agree. It is the same with people when they meet a stranger, they wanna take it slow and not be pushed by others. I believe cats want that too. I know that for sure cause I have some experiance. 💜 😿

      It took me 3 weeks just for my first cat to get along with her little sister. It was supposed to be 2 but damn i was in so much stress just handling so much growling and hissing all weeks. And i seperated them cause i was afraid the bigger sister will attack the little sister. Now they are best friends as i intended. D'x so much hard work. Their names are tiger (1yr old) and snickers (10months old)

    You are supposed to, ideally, bring an item home a few days before, with the new animals smell on it. Let the cat get used to them. Then bring new kitty home, but separate in another room. Then, current kitty will smell them from the door. Next, open the door next day and let them meet.

      More or less this.
      One of my cats was run over and spent 2 weeks at the vet. His littermate treated him like an intruder when he came back. Never mind they'd been inseparable companions for 8 years

    • @ballisticbee6001
      @ballisticbee6001 4 роки тому +1

      MISC BITS the smell of things change. Especially if cats go to a vet, then they basically have a sterilized scent that rod them of their regular scent. Thats why when your treating the mom of a litter or vise versa, you usually have to wait until the kittens at least have their eyes open, otherwise either the kittens can’t find the mom or the mom rejects the kittens.

  • @JimmyJojoshabadoo

    You need to separate the kittens and introduce them through feeding time with a barrier seperating them. Uni does not recognize her sisters sent because she's been to the vet. If you separate them for awhile her sent will build up and Uni can start sniffing her. Also separating them is better for the new kitten. Let the new one get acquainted to her new surroundings by herself. Don't force her out of places if she's hiding. The last thing you want is one insecure cat and another that won't hesitate to attack.
