Great install and video. I’m having a difficult time finding an HVAC company that will do a split mini in this area. They all want to go traditional heat pump installation for my basement finishing project. ( Old Dogs / New Tricks, thinking ).
Can you explain why the bedroom wasn't included in your ducting? I'd have thought you need that to maintain heat on cold winter night? Aren't you instead heating entryway and sewing room?
My only concern is the drip pan. The drain hose is mid-way up your drip pan. This means the pan must fill up with water before it will start to drain. That pool of water will remain in the pan. As the leak continue to drip or stream down, you’ll have splashing going everywhere in your attic. Yes, you;’ll have some splash when the pan is dry, but the splash is much worse when the pan has water in it. Then the water that can’t escape down the tube will have to evaporate into your attic. IF you don’t want to re-do the drain pipe connection, you can raise the drip pan up, so it’s closer to the unit and less likely to splash water out, as long as the support can hold the weight of the pan full of water.
My concern is the height of the condenser off of the ground. In Whatcom County, Washington, you get an annual snowfall of 10". This is how far the bottom of the condenser should be off of the ground. Looks like you've got about 2"
Interesting. I live in New England, and we get much more snow than that (just got 8” last night), and of all the mini splits I see outside of homes around here, none of them seem to be very high off the ground. Wonder if that’s an issue? Maybe home owners just have to shovel them out each storm? Not sure.
How loud are the fans?? Do you have an exact decibel or something similar I can gauge it to? Trying to have a unit installed but worried about the neighbors. houses are very close together.
These are extremely quiet. In the low 50s for the decibel range which basically means you can’t hear it unless you are walking directly in front of it. These are as quiet as any unit will get
AWESOME!!! Exactly what I want to do in my new build (currently planning). Any reason for using Daikin over other brands like Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, etc, like price or performance? Thanks for making a great video.
Daikin has over 90 years of experience in the commercial heating and cooling industries. They are the ones who created the VRF system and the latest R32 Refrigerant technology. Daikin is the number one brand of Air Conditioner / Heater in japan.
Daikin, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, and LG are all top brands in the heat pump industry. Brands other then that can be okay, but those four brands are all really solid.
@@marrsheatingandairconditioning This means your separate units cannot modulate independently? I know the fans can blow different speeds but that's different. Might have been nice to turn one off during the shoulder seasons if needed. Would you have done it differently after having it for 2 years?
I'm currently considering ductless for my Kentucky home built in 1900. My house is 1400 sf long and narrow, one floor. I like the floor mount versus the wall units - how do you service those or clean the filters? I get a headache from all the information out there, but when it comes down to it you need an installer who knows their stuff, purchase a unit that you can get serviced in your area and watch the warranty length. Has anyone ever painted the wiring/refrigeration line cover to match their house? They are so ugly, remind me of a snake crawling on the house.
Zarin Goodson pioneer makes one precharged with refrigerant on amazon called pioneer air conditioner inverter. The highest btu system is 3700. That doesn’t include the duct work but is more of a diy system. Mr cool also makes a complete diy mini split system ductless and its a complete system.
I just added a similar 2 zone and getting minimal air flow out of the registers. I have a 18000BTU air handler for an area of 980SF should I have put in a 24000RVJU. Any suggestions?
🤔 it may be as simple as an incorrect setting on your controller. You have to set the static pressure on most of these units in order for them to function appropriately. Also, roughly how many ducts do you have and what size are the ducts? Happy to help if I can!
@@marrsheatingandairconditioning Thanks for your help! The ceiling has 6 ducts- 3 bedrooms, 1 bath and 1 each in the kitchen and living room (which is the furthest from the air handler and has minimal air outlet and the coldest rooms).I know you recommend 8in duct supplies is that important?
@@Reddylion Split AC is used all over the world currently. If you go to Asia and especially Japan, there is almost nobody uses the ducted system anymore. I don't know why America is very late to adopt the split ac system.

Very nice install. One suggestion I think a better term for "ducted ductless" would be "ducted mini-split" makes more sense to me.
Or you can just say "Ducted Multi Zone"...?
Yup ,,,. Threw me off at the start there too lol had to rewind 😅
Or you could say ground source and air source
I call them ducted mini-splits
Very nice, clear explanation, good visuals - thanks for taking the time to put this up.

In the floor plan graphic it looks like the bedroom didn't get any service. Is that just an oversight?
How much does a set up like this cost?
Why did you slope your condensate up before sloping down? Even with the condensate sump wouldn't you want it to slope down regardless?

Just fill the lower portion of the drain pan with epoxy. Slope it towards the drain. Simple 'nuff!
How many btus is the ducted unit? Is it sufficient enough for all three rooms? Also, is your floor mount connected to the same Condenser unit?
Very useful video. Thanks

what static is your ductwork sized for?
Won't the unit in the attic sweat?
Does the attic unit have to be close to the outdoor unit? Or can you run the line as far as you want at 4:29?

What happens if I don’t have the attic space for a unit of that size?
Is that the sketch up program you used for the house plan?
Yes, you can see part of the logo in the upper-right.
What about fresh air to the house?
How can you make a video and not discuss the size of the interior and exterior unit(s)?
