    Use a wire wheel to get to bare metal then use POR 15. Then spray some paint on it. Dupli-Color has a spray paint line called "Perfect Match", which should have a color that matches yours perfectly.
    The rust on your car isn't bad, especially for Canada.
    My car is from California and has some rust too. These cars are just prone to rust in certain areas, especially the lower parts of the front fenders and rear wheel wells.
    Check the top and bottom of the windshield too.

    Gts has the 4age 16v in it, LSD with brake rotors in the rear, better interior, front bumper is slightly different as well on a gts.

    I know what you mean, this 86 was my first 4 lug, before I bought it I too had a prejudice towards any car with 4-lug. But the fact is, it's a tiny car that just doesn't need more than 4, 5 lugs would almost be too crowded on the tiny hub, and the 4 lug square bolt pattern aligns nicely with the rest of the cars square style. Unfortunately the 4x114.3 pattern is not too common, so even little 14" wheels can cost a fortune (legit brands).

    89 180sx is gonna have a ca18det right? Regardless.. What do you want from the car? I like s14 over s13 due to much better interior and initial handling (before mods) is better, but the s14 and 13 still wreak of cheap nissan. The AE86 wont be as fast, but it will probably be just as fun. If its a clean GTS vs another 240, take the GTS all day long. If you plan on driving the car into the ground, get the nissan, no one will miss it. AE86 interior is good quality, doors shut nice, toyota > nissan!

  • @terhowright7762
    @terhowright7762 8 років тому

    Just to be clear this is not an AE86 nor an AE85. This is the US-Spec AE88. I'm not totally sure, but the AE87 might be the Euro-Levin. You can tell that it's an AE88 by the bumpers and the "SR5" Trim level.

    • @fpsColton
      @fpsColton  8 років тому

      Terho Wright Lol not this again, if the cars chassis is stamped AE86, and the vin also says it, then how could you say it is an AE88? No where does it say 88 on this car (this isn't a gt-s).

    • @terhowright7762
      @terhowright7762 8 років тому

      The US/Canadian Model says "AE86" in the plate. But unlike in the "JDM" Version it follows up with some digits etc. And not a single "AE86" came with the bumpers with the indicators placed lower.

    • @terhowright7762
      @terhowright7762 8 років тому

      And I wonder why you hid the digits after "JTAE86" in the plate?

    • @terhowright7762
      @terhowright7762 8 років тому

      But afterall, It's a great car.

    • @fpsColton
      @fpsColton  8 років тому +1

      I agree it's a great car, but you're wrong. All Toyotas from the 80s and 90s will have the chassis-code stamped on the firewall, this is different from the VIN plate. Every AE86 in the world will have digits that follow this written as "AE86-XXXXX" as seen at the 4:00 minute mark. Most north american cars will read AE88 there, as most are GT-S models. I have owned a number of north american and japanese specification toyotas (check my channel), they all have the chassis code written on the firewall with some build numbers following.

    Anyone recommend an ae corolla as a first car? Any model (or other suggestions) will do.. Just need an opinion on what a respectable first car would be. no Hondas though since just about every sorry fuck (sorry Honda fans) and their grandma owns one. I'd immensely appreciate it.

    • @fpsColton
      @fpsColton  10 років тому

      Corolla is a classic first car, but make sure you find a RWD if you're a driving enthusiast. FWD Corolla is still a great car, they're more comfortable than a comparable civic (but also less fun). You really can't go wrong with a Corolla, but personally I would get bored of driving any FWD vehicle after a short period. Depending on what type of driver you are you will either be really impressed and satisfied with a FWD Corolla, or you'll just be disappointed with the lack of driving excitement.

    • @djhero0071
      @djhero0071 10 років тому

      I don't race but I do have a tendency to speed and really love seeing how fast I can get to the speed limit,ya dig?? What's the major difference in driving a FWD over a RWD car also??? And besides a corolla,are there any Subis or Mitsubishis that would be good,first cars???

  • @fpsColton
    @fpsColton  11 років тому +1

    Hi you are correct this is indeed an ae86, but it is original, those seats are not from a gts, they were included with the sport package which was offered during 1984 (gts didn't exist in 84). This package included the sport seats with lumbar and headrest adjustment, cloth door pockets, and in Canada you also got the 3 spoke gts style wheel, but it isn't leather wrapped like a gts. Über rare!

    Cool ride, man! It's just begging for a Twin Cam swap with LSD.

  • @fpsColton
    @fpsColton  11 років тому

    I think the 180 is a better choice considering it has the sr and much lower Km. if the body and frame is nice on the Nissan then go for it, I can't imagine the 86 is in great shape with that many km. that said if the 86 has been restored or is in good shape, and it's a gts, and it has LSD, I'd probably still take the ae86. It depends on what's harder to find where you live I guess. Drive em both so you know the differences, I much prefer the ae86 as I feel it's easier car to learn car dynamics.

  • @fpsColton
    @fpsColton  11 років тому +1

    Haha! I didn't start watching initial D until after I bought the car, but it's hilarious! Don't think it's all BS, I've had a ton of sweet cars before I bought this ae86, but none of them have taught me so much about car control as the ae86. Its not that I was a bad driver before, but after driving the ae86, you learn to really utilize each component of a car. With the increased brake effort required, I've been able to master the double-clutch-heel-toe downshift in no time, on public roads =D

  • @fpsColton
    @fpsColton  11 років тому

    Ugh that's a lot of money for 86, especially a few years ago. That said, prices are climbing, and considering a GT86 costs nearly £25k (way more expensive than it is here, we're looking at around $28k), I'd probably regret not buying it either. Even if you overspend on an 86, it's still not a bad investment as they just keep getting harder to find, and it's a riot to drive!

    Btw a cheap way to prevent the rust from spreading is to sand down the rust and brush some pot 15 on to it, it's not the prettiest but it works amazingly, or you can spray silver termclad on it.

    Best motor for a tueno?
    In 2litre-category:
    SR20det (already turbocharged)
    SR20VVT - turbocharged
    SR20VVL - turbocharged
    3S-GE Turbo...
    But The Honda S2000's motor has an admirably wide torque band in the rev-range that is most frequented whilst drifting: 4500-6500rpm.
    Then you try something like an RB25det...
    Go speak to your favourite mechanic that deals with modified cars and mention these motors. Hear what people have to say, and then make you mind up after drawing your conclusion...

    • @fpsColton
      @fpsColton  10 років тому +1

      Heh tbh the build hasn't really gone too far, right now I'm on the fence about what I should do with this car. I still enjoy driving it but I'll admit that ever since buying my S14 I haven't been driving the corolla much. The rust is pretty lame on the one side and the motor is feeling weak in the summer heat.. I don't really want to sell it though, in many ways I still prefer it to the S14 and it's definitely alot more special. Everything in the 86 still works, all I've had to do so far was rebuild the alternator.

    Hey man, not sure if your reading comments still but... what size tires and wheels?

      Hey mate, honestly I'm not sure what this car had equipped, but if I recall they were larger than most AE86 would run (even aftermarket). I believe they were a 16" wheel, with a 205 in the front and a 225 in the back. Enkei Racing S 2 piece.
