- Some other Hollow Knight speedrunners created a meme category where the objective is to defeat all bosses outside of Godhome, but in the order they appear in Pantheon of Hallownest. Unsurprisingly, this route is incredibly silly and makes no sense, but I figured it sounded cursed enough to run it myself.

@@ellie8272 Not that I disagree with your point, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that any of the MCs in those games are gnc. Madeline is fem presenting and (I assume) a girl, so she’s ruled out. The knight doesn’t have a gender, so they can’t be non conforming. And Frisk’s gender is more “up for interpretation” than anything.

You could've counted getting the Nailmasters' respective Nail Arts (or Nailmaster's Glory in Sly's case) as a substitute for fighting them

It could be argued that skipping False Knight in a way technically counts as beating them, since depleting its phase 1 health counts as killing that entity and thus unlocks False Knight in the Hall of Gods despite the actual boss fight not being finished. That would mean mandatory Baldur skip...
On the other hand, that's stupid.
@@nextProgram I think it's just a bug. It's not like Vengefly King and God Tamer which are unlocked automatically, it's specifically getting through phase one that unlocks False Knight.
Like, yeah, you're not intended to Baldur skip, but why _not_ just have it show up without any player input like the other ones? Just sounds like unnecessary effort, to me anyways.
Well God Tamer shows up in the _pantheon_ automatically, and then subsequently in the Hall of Gods. It's only Vengefly King that's always unlocked even if you don't engage with it.
Who said you need to kill bosses to unlock them? Dying to a boss unlocks them in the hall of gods, always.
Otherwise you would literally have to do P5 all over again every time you die to Absrad, which just would be... madness.
@@helion_ut You definitely do have to kill them, that is _unless_ you encounter then in Godhome. It's a completely arbitrary distinction for that very reason, since they still wanted you to actually defeat bosses normally before doing pantheons including them. Well lore wise you could say them being in Godhome already means most of the work done, I guess. Thankfully God Tamer and all the dream rematches show up in the pantheons no matter what so you don't even have to encounter them.
@@helion_ut except that's not true, you have to kill them. I've been stuck on Troupe Master Grimm for a while and have died to him more times than I can count, but he still hasn't showed up in the Hall of the Gods.

This seems like a really interesting speed run for testing your on-the-fly routing. You've gotta travel across the kingdom to so many specific places in a row that coming up with the fastest path without getting lost is really tricky.

Didn’t think anyone would notice this comment but here’s the major points of the route in no particular order:
1. Massive Geo Grind across early game for Lantern (into Cdash/dnail) which includes Mossy and Mantis Lords
2. Enters City from KE (via tram pass)
3. Gets wings and shade cloak
4. Gets all Nail arts and NMG, 2 extra masks (1 completed before CPeaks), Shade Soul and Nail 2
5. Does Herrah first, after great slash and cyclone slash but before Basin, KE, and of course city.
Basically I wanted an any% route that would allow nail arts to be used for beasts den (since I struggle with the devouts), and shade cloak before doing watchers but then also had the awful idea of leaving city to as late as it can be which results in hours of timeloss because why not. I went as far as to “properly” geo route it but never made any splits to time just how bad it was nor am I currently capable of getting a good gauge of that. Despite this I completed a run that got an in game time of 2 hours and 27 minutes which I then beat months later with a 2:15:19 which is as far as I’ve taken it.

Today is the day when I have completed steel soul at 112% I am very proud to be part of this community as it has given me a journey of great memories. Thank you Skurry, you inspired me to play this amazing game. Without you, I may have never played this extraordinary game.

So per the suggestion in this, I made a boss order randomizer with enough logic to make sure it's possible. Verdict so far is that it's incredibly cursed. Seems to most commonly be some version of the low% route to start with and then expand from there.

I did this run too! It took 13 hours and I did the Nailmasters and Sly's charm as substitutes. Also I defeated HK and Radiance separately. God Tamer took forever for some reason

You should have used the mod that adds pure vessel at the end of path of pain for the true p5 experience
4:35 This route is probably slower, but you can blind go through dark room to get to peaks early, and make it to where crystalized mound is, and fall down to resting grounds. Did it by accident last time i played

I actually beat moss charger dashless and dung defender diveless on my first playthrough. i straight up thought that's how you'd do it normally
I don't remember if I had dive when I thought dung defender but I definitely didn't use it and the fight definitely doesn't expect you to use it, it's more like a neat trick to make it trivial.
Though when it comes to weird things, my first boss was brooding mawlek lol, and I thought the pogos on the spike to get there was just the tutorial level platforming the game expected from you...
That ending made me realize why I dislike playing AAA games, and it's not because it's funny, it's because it's true.

Most of them are just boring to me, I guess. Some just feel bigoted (Homophobic, Transphobic, Misogynistic, etc.), some obvious, some I'm just unsure of. I'm aware that indie games can also be made with those concepts in mind, but they tend to be a lot more friendly. Plus, I enjoy a small community.

I learned how to read speedrun splits by watching Skurry, I used to think that the final split was actually going to be next.
What I find sad about runs like this that scramble the order you traverse the map in is that, for as interesting as the run is in the beginning, they always converge to the normal run near the end or once you reach "go mode" for item randos. The only real exception I know are map randos, but on the flip side they can be really confusing to watch.

I've been attempting p3 recently, so HUZZZZZZZZZAH, Elder Hu, Collector, God Tamer, Troupe Master Grimm, is very familliar to me.
4:46 even if you dont know how to do the shade skip,
p5 order is still possible,you just need to go to deepnest by the area where the floor breakes,get tram pass,go to ancient bassin witg the tram,climb up through city of tears and finally reach resting grounds.
7:44 you also dont need to do this acid skip,since you can get to crystal peaks with dive,you can get crystal Heart,which lets you get isma,s tear.

Hive Knight is probably the best spot to upgrade nail initially, and after not-winged Nosk is probably a good time to get nail 3 (I would grab the Mawlurk Pale Ore)

If the speedrun required you to defeat the Pure Vessel and the Absolute Radiance, Skurry would have had to defeat every boss AGAIN in the pantheons, then defeat them... AGAIN.

Same. I can't do that strategy without a very specific charm combo that lets you spam nail without any regard for timing.
I also struggle against Crystal Guardian without a lot of upgrades, even on a repeated playthrough. And I don't even know why; he's such a simple boss. I just suck at the fight unless I get more upgrades.

fun fact: this run is actually possible without any speedrunning skips. i’ve done it myself, there’s a lot of time between hornet and gorb. pretty fun honestly, would reccommend for a casual player’s next playthrough

I mean, large game companies don't typically put queer content in their games for the same reason that companies like Disney don't put queer content in their movies; They don't think it's worth the money they'd lose from bigots.
I think that raises an interesting consideration, that maybe that effect extends beyond obvious things like explicit representation. This doesn’t apply to HK necessarily since it has queer characters, but maybe having no fear of restricting queer content in the first place creates a more welcoming atmosphere overall.
I mean... It's not as though the majority if indie games have prominently featured queer content. Hollow Knight's got Sheo and Nailsmith but that's it

Also I think there's something about gays/furries being more imaginative and in research of quality, which explains why triple A games are straighter.
(When you randomize the bosses but then the randomizer puts hornet sentinel before hornet 2, and the radiance fight before uumuu, and puts every dream boss before their regular counterparts)
