Noise Box War Drums

I recently finished this noise box and couldn't resist checking out digital effects. I turned a cigar box into a haunting war drum by adding delay and reverb.
This is a preview of how far piezo pick ups can take you. Here I'm trying to rhythmically smack the noise box. I'm using a pen that has a foam basketball ball at the end. Using an USB Audio Interface, I connected the noise box to Ableton and was able to leverage wild digital DAW effects. And before you comment, yes, my timing is terrible. After all I'm just whacking rubber bands on a cigar box.

This was mesmerizing, hard to believe the sounds are coming from what is shown. With some synth pads added, this would be ready to be used as a sci-fi soundscape.

I could see this used in a cool song. A bit of spaced out guitar (a few boss pedals can give you cool sounds or VST's with chorus and delay etc...) then you can add drums slowly as you get into the song. Maybe an intro and outro to a song? Many possibilities. As he was playing I was imagining some chords to go with it.

Listening to this in isolation, you would never believe it came from a cigar box with a couple of doorstops, a head scratcher and some elastic bands. Wow. That's just amazing.

Creative! I think that upright metal claw thing is a head massager? I also recognise a spring doorstop and music winder. I can imagine this video being exhibited in Tate Modern museum
Nailed it! I used all the things I loved to play with as a kid hence the door stoppers and music box. The head scratcher just offers more flexibility. I sometimes pull springs and rubber bands through it to get a bit more jangle.

So many places to go with these types of designs and all mechanical sounds. It looks simple but there is a lot of software that go with the box that took a lot of talent and trial and error, or exploring. The feedback loop must have taken awhile to get to the right spot. Nice piece of work. Artistic and ingenious. Two words that don’t go together too often. It works here.

This is legit amazing. I've seen hundreds of weird little gadgets like this, but this one is pretty wild dude. I get how it works (I think) but that thing is making some VERY impressive sounds for how simple it looks and the things it incorporates. bravo dude
