- What did Jesus mean when he said, ‘I and My Father are one’?
Rupert says: ‘What he meant was that if we go deeply into our self and discover what we are essentially, that turns out to be what God is essentially. In other words, the being in each of us is God’s being. In fact, the only being there is, is God’s being. So the highest Christian understanding is that there is no room for anything other than God. God is all there is.
‘But for those of his disciples that didn’t realise that the self was God’s being, he conceded that they were individuals and encouraged them to have a personal relationship with God.

thank You, Rupert. Such work, to establish Christians in nondual being as God, to give them a nondual view within Christianity, this is really needed for Christians.
Thank you for this ❤ - as I very, very devout Christian, I have been on a journey of pulling deeper and deeper into the Spirit of God…this has brought me to such a deep oneness with God that I have gone beyond words - like there is no external God anymore, just God in me and God and I as one…I have been led to some of those mystics - Meister Eckhart and Marguerite Pourette, specifically, as well as to Rupert’s understanding … this idea of oneness is so hard for us Christians to wrap our minds around, but I have found that leaving the mind and allowing myself the beauty of that oneness doesn’t strip away or deny my Christian faith in any way - it is the destiny Jesus wanted for us - “I pray they will be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. I pray that they also will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me.”

Well spoken, Rupert. A few years ago I decided that I no longer “claim” a religion. My family is largely conservative Christian and the idea that a person must be categorized in order to exist on this planet is an attachment and struggle that I frequently witness. Like when another person runs down through the list of world religions and I tell them “I am none of them - and yet I am all of them”

When Jesus teached his flock to pray, he told them to say": OUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN,..... which means that we are All his children, this was his way of telling us the non-dual way of teaching that we are All One Being. ❤
"His flock" causes duality, and even saying "our" does the same. Wasn't Jesus speaking to His disciples, and not unbelievers?

YOU like to change things to YOUR OWN WAY: Oldest Bibles in English (1611) and Spanish (1602) both say: "Our Father who ART in heaven, NOT who IS in heaven! Because Jesus is talking in 2d person to His Father.

Thanks Mr. Spira. If Christians could learn the ultimate prayer then they could experience nonduality. You should lead a contemplation and show them how to find the wall between them and the outside world. If they "stand" at the wall long enough it will come down. The experience of expanding your sense of self into the objective infinite unknown and having the experience of no separation is life changing. Trancending the self isn't that hard if you have someone lead you. That's the only way a person can know the Truth for themselves that there is only One. Thanks again for sharing some wisdom from the Way.

Even with Jesus while walking this earth of experience sunk slightly down from “I and the Father are One; thou seest Me, thou seest Him who sent Me.”
Because, at His lowest point In Gethsemene, he prayed dualistically to the Father to “let this cup pass.” And, He went to his disciples for help to fortify His prayer. And He said as He could not awaken them “Alas, the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
There are moments in this earthly experience, as Paramahansa Yogananda puts it, that “the audacity of this seen world seems to eclipse the love of God.”
And, finally, unbelievably, yet in the Bible, Jesus suffering on the cross, before “giving up the ghost,” cries out, “My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken Me.”
Let me just say, that this “Maya” is no joke. She plays to win. Look at Buddha under the Bodhi tree, prior to His enlightenment, Maya came at Him with her complete arsenal of both beauty and ghastly. But, in Siddhartha Gautama’s well-prepared state, He, the Buddha, remained unmoved by either, and crossed to the Golden Shores of Oneness.

"I and the father are one"... he also said " Where 'I Am' ye shall be also" meaning when you awaken you come to this understanding. We are ALL one with God but for our belief in separation. Unfortunately this has been misunderstood by many Christians and been used to control through a fear of Hell.
Taking me by the hand, together, we approach the Tree of Life.
Here, He gently raises me upon His shoulders. Here, He shares with me, the fruit from It's branches.
With each mouthful, just as scales begin to fall from my eyes, so too, the shambolic mutterings of the ego, fall, from my mind...
I begin to realise that I have been brought to a forgotten, yet somehow, familiar place.
To a place where I re-encounter the Vastness of Existence.
To clarity beyond thought.
To a place where the peace of His Reality, within me, is at once made known.

Jesus is the image of yourself... i am the way truth and the life... there is no other self to live my life.... my truth is all I am, the only way to know it is truth... all false truths shall set you free, when you unchain them from you.
See also John 17:21: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” John 17:20-21 NIV.
The ultimate message of Yeshua Jesus is surrendering to love, to the divine, which is in us, and which is us all, all beings, incarnate in any form or not, and all creation. All are emanations of the divine Christos consciousness.
Prayer is following the signposts along the path. If you cannot find any more signposts, and your path has disappeared, then you are at your destination.

I was brought up as a Christian and could not understand how human beings and animals are real since they grow old and die and at the same time i knew that is the only reality I can experience with my senses.
Rupert explained it all so clear for me and I get the big picture now.

03:26 "relationship through prayer" >> What is prayer? It's releasing your hold of troubles. "Praying incessantly" simply means constantly staying in that "releasing your hold" state, state of being free w/o care. That's your "relationship" with God.

4everascending511: may I recommend the sermons of Meister Eckhart, the Sufi poet Rumi, The Upanishads, and the youtube videos of Advaita Vedanta, explaining the Upanishads, by Swamis Sarvapriananda and Medhananda. Gospel of Thomas is truly nondualistic in many sayings of Jesus. Thomas helps to see Gospel of John in nondualistic way, to reveal language of John.
I suggest all listeners listen to the talks by Swami Medhananda of the Ramakrishna vendanta society. What Rupert is saying is the traditional Advaita teaching that the non dual path is the highest truth. The Bhakti path of separation says they have the highest truth. Neither concedes that both are complete perfect paths to God realization. Yet both are..
All paths lead to God as only God knows the path you need in order to recognise him

As long as I donʼt have to hear this god referred to as a he or a father or son, Iʼm willing to listen. I was raised catholic and I got done with it long long ago. I must have equality as a woman or Iʼm out the door.

@@plumeria66 Well, possibly he meant that in reality everything is a fictitious illusion. But, in the relative world of names and forms that most of us call “real,” the existence of any form is possible. A giant is quite possible, just as much as a skyscraper or rocket to the moon is possible.

@@plumeria66 He, Rupert, is a Spiritual Illumined soul. He never claimed to be a historian. If archaeologists find a large amount of bones in a pile and fit and piece them back together meticulously in what seem to be joints and connections similar to the structures of their descendant animal cousins today, there is no reason to doubt it. Just as some animals that existed 100 years ago according to eyewitness, no longer exist today.
Just as you and I and Rupert appear to exist, and him speaking and we writing to each other seem to exist, relatively speaking, yet we don’t really exist in this form at all, because there is only One.
Rupert certainly would not deny that it appears that he is a teacher and students flock to see him. This is called “apparent reality,” and not “Ultimate Reality.”
Anything and everything can exist temporarily in this physical universe as an illusion in mind and appear physical to our physical senses.
Dinosaurs could definitely have existed as well as cougars and mountain lions in Pennsylvania which existed up until the late 19th Century, and no longer exist.

The Bible said that man and woman would marry and become one flesh but they are not 2 people in one body
The pressuposituon that a relationship implies two separate individuals is baseless. There can be two disctints yet without separation. If Jesus was one with thr father in the sense of Rupert, then Jesus would have said I am the father, as the deepest understanding but he didn’t because they are two distinct hypostasis of the same Being.
Where’s Mom in all of this?
Most Christians have not come to terms with the fact that Jesus of Nazareth, was God's messenger, whose 'work' was to teach the people of his time, how they could KNOW GOD! He confirmed this himself, in John 17:3 as, "And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
Job confirms, [in Job 19:26], that God is always known in the body; "And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God". This is the task for every human being. Jesus came as an exemplar; to be imitated. After all, "the kingdom of God is within you"; within every human being!
In John 14:20, Jesus confirmed to his disciples, that all life is one, and that they would eventually know this on the day of their salvation, stated as, "At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you." Earlier, in John 14:9, Jesus confirmed to Philip, that by seeing him [Jesus] Philip had seen the Father [God]; since God is manifested in the universe as those who have transcended their minds [overcome the world].
If anyone on here is interested in Jesus teachings or the second coming of Jesus he came and the world missed him just like they’ve missed him 2024 years ago he wrote a book it’s called. Christ returns speaks his truth. He brought these new teachings to show the misinterpretations of his teachings when he was here 2024 years ago, check it out. It will change things for you.
Maybe someone can help me understand? If I imagine that there is only one awareness, then I feel lonely and begin to panic. Because then there are no other. Do I understand this wrong? Why do other people not feel lonely with this experience of oneness?
I don’t think the teaching is about the feeling of oneness, it’s about liberation. But so rarely does one experience liberation that the teaching has been watered down to concepts like oneness.

It's lonely and petrifying to be an atheist, someone not with God, in relationship with God, connected with God.
I and my Father are one, literally saying I am with God and God with me. That's it. So... Two, not one. Religion is Truth. Duality is Truth.
I am not God.
We shall (certainly) return to God and we shall (certainly) be questioned.
Only those elected will enter the ultimate final destination after this earthly life (Eternal Love), after having suffered Divine suffering enough, and after having, bowed down in prostration with their face and knees to the ground in total submission to God, indeed, their reward for their suffering is indeed worth it.
God is Alive.
At the 2 minute point he says the following...
"The Being in each of us, is God's Being.
In fact the only Being there is, is God's Being.
In us, God's Being is temporarily clothed in human experience.
And we seem, as a result, to become a Finite Being.
But to believe that there is a Finite Being, that is blasphemy.
Because if there is a Finite Being, let alone eight billion or
eight trillion Finite Beings, along with God's Being,
then God's Being cannot be Infinite.
And then God is not God.
So in the highest Christian understanding, there is no room for anything
other than God. God is everything. God is all there is.
And that's what Jesus recognized when he said, "I and my Father are one".
What I essentially am, IS what my Father God's Infinite Being, essentially is."

Yes and like it or not this means Judas is also one with God. Without Judas or any of the other apparent people who betrayed Jesus there would be no story of Jesus “dying for our sins” nothing is separate. All is equally precious.
Jesus only realised that he and GOD were one entity after commending GOD to come and help him when he was dying on the cross, comes from Vedanta saying-aham brahmasmi meaning-The word Aham translates to “I”, while Brahma refers to the “ultimate reality or the divine consciousness” that exists within everything. Asmi means “am” or “exist.” Therefore, the traditional translation of Aham Brahmasmi is “I am Brahma” or “I am divine consciousness.”
Shadow work. As our experience of everything outside us is inside our head it must be “us”. No need for gods.
I can't see anything in Christianity having anything to do with Enlightenment. No matter how hard I look .

Unfortunately, there's no room for honesty when it comes to religions and religious ideologies and doctrines.
Throughout history , many had to pay with their lives, some burned alive, just for saying what you're saying or even for showing a slightest disagreement with anything written in their " Holy ,Sacred texts", where every word was to be totally believed and accepted as the "Word of God ".
Given the ignorance of humanity in history, it's not so surprising, how all these religious ideologies have always managed to get the majority of humanity to believe and accept their claims. So, it continues under slightly different formats with slightly different labels.
You may not be burned alive for speaking out, but, you'll very likely be accused of being an ego, a mind or a finite mind, which has changed its name from devil.
No need to be troubled by anyone presenting a religious model of Reality.
One can never be too careful nor be contemplative enough when it comes to understanding the nature of Existence.

Free will is not blasphemy, but the very essence of likeness of God. Annihilation of a prior to become a future is primitivism. Nondualism is nihilism and absolute materialism. Love & Unity is of sovereign multiplicities joining without surrendering their sovereign, indivisible individual souls. Absolute Oneness is death of awareness and consciousness - I.e. is absolute nothingness - into a ‘deity’ - ‘who’ doesn’t know it-self and is not a creator - I.e. this kind of ‘metaphysics’ is a mix-‘metaphysic’ - conflating, for example, Hindu nondualist religious models (Brahman, top-god, is not creator, is static, and is without qualities) with the Christian religious model (“I go before you to prepare a place for you - there are many rooms in my father’s house”) which is dynamic, evolutionary and multiplicitous - I.e. the true attributes and the true definitions of life & love. There is zero love, nor intelligence, nor evolution, nor metaphysics, in codependent self sacrifice into any other whatsoever.
This is the soft side of Christianity. The converse is all the language of condemnation and the lakes of eternal tormenting fire destined for non believers. Why?

@@joajoajb Thank you. I am in total agreement with you. I wanted to raise this point because the woman in the above video was appoaching Rupert from a more philosophical than doctrinal Christian standpoint and his answer was couched very much in the mystical side of the religion.
I have myself been trying to reconcile my Christian upbringing and its interface with science, technology and modern developments generally, including attitudes to things like the roles of women and a host of other issues. You might say I am a 'progressive' Christian.
However, I receive a lot of flak from evangelical types who apply Biblical principles to their lives because for them, the Bible is the inerrant word of God and cannot be questioned or interpreted other than literally.
They remind me frequently that the only way I will get into Heaven is by being 'born again' in Christ and rejecting everything that is'of this World'. This is then caveated with, unless you are born again (properly saved) your fate of eternal conscious torment in the fires of Hell awaits.
I don't know of any other religion that threatens in this way. Why would God punish people who are basically good people, such as Humanists but don't adhere to strict doctrinal, religious beliefs. I would be interested to know if there are Christians here who have a view on this.

This evoked a huge interest and curiosity about life and everything around me. But, I was too little to understand or analyze.
My first all in meditation and contemplation began when I was in college. Many discoveries and experiences to say the least, followed by weeks and months of contemplation.
Religious ideologies, doctrines and blind beliefs, forced on humanity have done almost irrevocable damages to the psyche of humanity accompanied by mountains of pain, and rivers of blood and tears.
I remember shedding a river of tears for months in silence during introspection and contemplation.
Letting go of everything and everyone, seen, heard, read, or believed, just, so. I could be free to look and examine for myself uncontaminated, was the hardest and most difficult part. But, it really is a must, for one to be free to look and examine for oneself, without anyone or anything buzzing over the head.
If anyone intentionally and deliberately uses anything from religious texts as a reference, and start making claims about God, Reality, Truth... let them go to their "truths ". You stay. You stay where you are before and after they have come and left. You remain exactly where you are, before and after, as if you haven't moved an inch anywhere towards an imagination.
I say, you're doing just fine.
