Congrats on getting your PC setup back. I finally finished my first Switch RPG I bought on the eshop all those years ago. I have started Gleaner Hights and Ys 8. Ys 8 is fun. I have no idea how a bunch of the systems work but I am managing. I actually started the game like an hour ago. The music is great so far. I just really suck at the combat. Thank god easy mode exists. I like my Actiongames and RPGs. It would just be a whole lot nicer if I didn't suck so bad at these games.

I've been trying to play Xenoblade, and while I love the beauty in the world and some of the characters are pretty interesting, the amount of walking and the length of each combat encounter is making playing it feel like a slog. Is there any way around that or does it get better about it at some point?

Sakura Wars is a surprisingly really comforting game. Love how much of a change of pace it is from the norm tbh. Fun cast and pretty catchy OST. Underrated game. The gameplay can be pretty hit or miss though (and I especially hate Koi-koi because of this game, but had to do it to get the platinum). That said, idk if I'd ever play through it again though. Nice to see you liked it though.

And older games are even better, especially first 3 games in series. Sadly only one (So Long My Love on PS2/Wii) is officialy translated, and first Sakura Wars on Sega Saturn have fan translation patch (also Sakura Wars 3 fan translation patch has been announced). The worst thing Sega did with newest Sakura Wars is being PS4 ekslusive like Fist of The North Star Lost Paradise, and release game in worst possible time with Persona 5 Royal and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Those kind of games (VN hybrids) dont sell well on PS4, but better on Switch / PC.

@@theultimategamer95 All of them are Visual Novel / SRPG hybrid. Sakura Wars 1-2 with Fire Emblem/Front Mission battle system (but much simpler). Sakura Wars 3-5 + PS2 Remake are prototype of Valkyria Chronicles (same devs). There is one spin-off / prequel game to Sakura Wars 5 So Long my Love with action battle system - Sakura Wars 5 Episode 0 on PS2 (only in Japan), but this game is considered worst in series. In Sakura Wars games gameplay is rather simple and only OK (no RPG elements, and difficulty is very easy), is not main focus. The main focus in those games was always Dating Sim, minigames, interactions with characters, and girls backstories. Main intention is playing game like interactive anime.

I'm glad to know you enjoyed XC2 the way it deserved to be, I personally find it hard to convince someone that this game is really worth their while if they've dropped it midway because of how the early game really doesn't do it justice. It's a similar case to Trails in the Sky FC imo where you either give it the time it needs to find out it's an absolute gem or give up before you find out what you've been missing on and what makes the game truly shine.
As for the JRPGs I've personally ventured into this year, not a whole lot of games overall but definitely Kuro no Kiseki was one of them with the 3 week vacation time I took to play it and enjoyed it thoroughly. The only other JRPG I've really been hooked onto this year tho came out just around 2 weeks ago, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Well that is if you can call it a JRPG, it's a Hunting Action game to be specific but hey, it is japanese. I've been a fan of the series for almost as long as I have been of Falcom games and this series hasn't let me down yet. Loving the cast of returning monsters for this one and I'm taking my time to enjoy the content at a slow pace so not to just rush to the endgame and return to the previous quests and slaughter everything in endgame gear.

For the less than savory JRPGs news, Rance 03 translation has been officially announced, and while IX is entering beta the Rance X has been estimated 51% completed, with the translation team hoping to be finished by the end of the year.

@@Touma_S Short answer, if you are a fan of Kiseki, JDK Falcom music, and don't mind the initial concept of Rance, very mich so yes. if you are put off by Rance as a character, stay away.
long answer: as a point of reference, Kiseki remains my favorite JRPG series, I am halfway through the fan translation of hajimari and have played all games before it. Rance as a series is also very good at doing the two things Kiseki games do right(imo) that being the overarching and expanding world building, and kick ass soundtrack. the first few games can be a little rough to get into if you can't handle the slightly grindy nature and dated style of older jrpgs (5D in particualr is an incredibly rough play) but the 01 remake and 6 are honestly so much fun to play and interacting with the style of 6 has me very excited to see why 7(sengoku) is considered the best of the franchise.

I really think Xenoblade Chronicles is the best newer modern JRPG series. I played X, 2, 1, Torna in that order which is odd but it was still great. X felt like the weakest. @@Naryoril Actually, XCX is set before XC1 and XC2. X is the “What If?” Game of the Xenoblade Chronicles series. SPOILERS FOR XC1 AND XC2:
XCX is how the world plays out had Klaus not activated the Conduit. XC1 and 2 occur after Klaus activates the Conduit.
My evidence to support that XCX is set before 1 and 2 is that Klaus activates the Conduit in the 21st Century (20XX) and XCX takes place during that same century (also remember, assuming Klaus did not reset the universe). XC1 and XC2 take place at the same time as each other, XC2 revealing that the year is 4058 in Alrest, which could mean 4058AD or 4058 years after Klaus reset the universe. This means XC1 and XC2 take place at least 2002 years after Klaus activates the Conduit as XCX takes place in 2056.

I think X is more fan theories than anything else, it was intended initially as a spiritual successor not part of the main universe, but Takahashi since then has hinted it might be. Then you bring in the fan theories too, it wouldn't surprise me if it does have some sort of significance.

There really isn't any. X is it's own thing, they just used the Xenoblade name because it uses the same basic systems and attempt increase sales with brand attachment(similar to mana and saga starting out using the final fantasy name, or Xenoblade itself). Hence why it's "x" rather than a number.

@@TheKisekiNut Oh no, I legitimately just didn't know how to do something. I picked it up a while back and made progress, but it's been years since I had actually been playing through it, so EVERYTHING was unfamiliar to me, and starting over is probably the right thing to do.

Did you say "emulate" ?!! I'm sorry but I'm going to have to report you to the video game police.

Gotta work around a schedule that works for you! I've found something that I'm comfortable with and makes me quite productive as a result.

I'm trying so hard to get into Xenoblade Chronicles but my god the combat is just bad to me so far. Hope it picks up cause if not I'm dropping that game like a bad habit

Not worth forcing it. If the combat isn't doing it for you then I'd move on to something else, because to be honest it stays like that for pretty much the whole game.
