- Home Secretary Yvette Cooper will make a statement in the Commons about the Chris Kaba case.
The 24-year-old was fatally shot by firearms officer Martyn Blake in 2022, and on Monday Mr Blake was cleared of his murder.
Sir Keir Starmer, speaking to reporters on his way to Samoa for the annual Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, said the jury's decision had to be respected.
"I do understand the pressure that firearms officers operate under to make split second decisions in difficult and fast moving circumstances," he said.
He added the government will pick up the accountability review launched by the previous Tory administration.

Amazing how they will do everything possible to protect the criminal, stoke racial hatred, and rake the person doing their job over the coals.
I’ll bet the family are heart-broke over the decision they thought they would be rich.
100%😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The officer deserves monetary compensation from the government.
This is not america son
@@SherryJav I can't see your son here.
He needs to resign and sue the police. He cannot sue the judge that named him. They are immune. This is wrong and needs to be corrected in the future.
No words have been invented for this repulsive Labour government
there have...but its a ten year stretch....
Give that Police Officer a raise and an award.
So much time and money wasted on a piece of trash that the world is better off without.
The officer never should have been named. Probably shouldn’t have been in court
In court is fair enough; an officer-involved shooting still claims a life and a court is probably the best place to determine innocence.
Defendants shouldn't be named when it isn't in either the public interest or the interests of justice for them to be named, ESPECIALLY before the results of the trial.
@@zakpearce7826 A court is only fair enough when there's enough evidence to make a proper case. This only took three hours for the jury to acquit him, therefore it's not credible that there was that much of a case to start with. The prosecution decided to go to court regardless of not being an actual case to appease certain community, making this whole thing a politically driven court case.
@@georgezee5173 Really it's a question of public interest. Considering the attention on the case, it's probably in the public interest for the prosecution service to pursue the case and resolve it formally.
He should not have been named, but he did kill another human being who was unarmed.
Stupid games, stupid prizes
The irony of Liebour politicians spouting about honesty, confidence and standards. 🙄
How long before he gets a statue ?
Or a bullit
That old saying "live by the sword, die by the sword"
Chris Kaba went bare faced to the club then covered his face with a balaclava then shot someone in the club, then got stopped and didn’t comply. I’m black and I think he made bad decisions which led to his death.
The fact is he did he’s job we’d all be moaning if he’d been let go of!!
The police need to know that government along with their superiors, have their back, otherwise how can they do their job. It is criminal that this police officer has been named just for doing his job. Sadly with Yvette Hamster at the helm, I suspect we are going to see a large number of officers leave the force.
Let’s see if she’s worse than Teressa May….
How many planes and boats arrived today??
Yvette Cooper does not speak against Muslim riots, against Jews by Muslims. Police were very soft with Palestinian protests compared to anti immigration protesters.r
What's "Jews by Muslims" exactly?
@@SherryJav Attacks on Jews by Muslims, will delete that it was lost in transit.
@@SherryJav Jews threatened by muslims just as Hindu's threatened by muslims.
Kaba's family should pay, out of his proceeds of crime, compensation to his ex girlfriend who had a Protection Order against him and to those persons he shot/shot at
One Labour voter down. Have to import some more.
Should be a military style trial not public. a dangerous job dealing with killers and incredibly violent people in hostile situations can
There was mentioned of a BLM protest in London this weekend about Kaba.
Any chance of Sky employing blokes?????
This is more like "loose woman" .... not a bloke reporter or presenter in sight !!!!!!!!!
Well done ❤
1:01:00 for the statement
Yvette Cooper takes insincerity to a new level. She is impossible to LOOK AT. The stomach churns.
We know that Chris’ death is not an isolated case but part of systemic racism and stereotyping that equates Black men with dangerousness. For decades, Black men, have disproportionately been killed by the police.
However, the conviction of one police officer does not stop the violence, racism and misogyny entrenched in police culture and practice.
Real justice and accountability is when the deaths and harms of policing stop.
Unfortunately this lifestyle Kaba was living led to his death, I still believe killing him was an extreme reaction from the officer tho. I would have preferred he spent the rest of his life in jail instead of taking the easy way out
So Starmer could let him out early.
@@a.j.b.8658 Is Starmer letting murderers out now all of a sudden?
It’s a bit late is it not .his employer is going to sack h anyway as they have no stomach for offending the black community.
RIP PETER LYNCH
It’s worth bearing in mind that David Carrick and Wayne Couzens were firearms officers. That fact alone should worry people.
And Harold Shipman was a doctor. What's your solution?
@@ColinMill1 The Met should be a bit more careful as to who they recruit and maybe spend a bit less time trying to get special treatment. There is, quite obviously, something seriously wrong with that organisation.
@@tatata1543 Nobody wants to join, so how are they supposed to be more selective?? Anyway the Met is the largest force by a mile so it only makes sense they are more than likely to contain undesirable types.
