The Impressions (Curtis Mayfield, Fred Cash and Sam Gooden) sing and perform their 1963 million seller, "It's Alright". It was a huge hit for them. I could listen to it all day!
It is a blessing to see that I am amongst so many Impressions fans. Their music is like medicine to me. For years, I thought that I was sort of alone in my sincere admiration and unlimited appreciation for the wonderful music Curtis, Sam and Fred created. I play music professionally today because of those gentlemen, they are my guru's.
Ironic isn't it that when blacks made NOTHING BUT GREAT MUSIC they were shunned. Now that they make NOTHING but GODAWFUL gangsta cRAP we're bombarded with it ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!
More soul in the first line than all the songs put together today. Of course, Curtis came out with two gems later on - "Superfly" and "Freddie's Dead" - gonna give those 45's a spin. Released on September 14, 1963, reaching # 4 on November 9.
Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions came from the era of the civil rights movement. Back then, as a musician you had to really be talented unlike most of the so-called entertainers of today, & your music might sometimes reflect politics of the time. Curtis Mayfield was perfect for that. In hip hop there's no room for musical innovation from the band. Only a mechanical track with usually an illiterate voice that you can't understand wrapping vulgar lyrics with absolutely no class.
Indeed---a no wonder Soul Train was created and I am very glad for it---and I happen to be White---before my time all that was going on but I experienced some of it when I lived in a Black neighborhood in the 70's and it was very ugly--racism. Another tool of the devil really. But The Impressions were wonderful :)
to sugaree and really rolling my eyes what were you doing in 1963 that you didn't see racism and point out a black dancer on this video that you saw and i didn't.do your homework on racism in the 60's and now then get back to me,but until then oh well
Half of yall don't do yall homework. Go google a photo of jerry butler and a photo of fred cash then you can see who the hell it is. Enough of the opinions. A little research and you can find out for sure. Its fred cash by the way.
@philburrell What does age have to do with jokes? It's youtube buddy, don't get butthurt cause of a tiny comment. Only a person who dances like this could get offended by my comment, and if you dance like this, it's funny. That's all to it. So don't cry.
Jerry Butler in the middle.......smdh I hate when people get on here and don't know what the hell they're talkin about. Thanks for the correction, DetroitLives313. Detroit native here too, Mackenzie, class of '71
These old ;ip synched B&W tv shows are priceless!! Amazing that this WAS the way we got our visual music for so long! All of the Bandstand years preceding Shindig, Hullaballoo, Soul Train, etc., They sometimes had a raw energy that amazes me now!
You obviously havent done your homework (rolling my eyes here). There are thousands of videos and Black Groups. hahaha The Racism card is ridiculous at best. What about Motown. lolol Get a clue okie dokie. Black Groups rocked the music scene.

Their Beautiful Music Will Live On Forever...Eveybody Knows, That it's All Right.
and they still dance the same way today. lol!
lt is so great to here this
That is exactly correct. The film "Hairspray" touched upon that phenomenon lightly but it was much more severe in reality.
Sam gooden from this band goes to my church now. Not kiddin! Its so cool! Except I dont think of him as famous lol
Me and Daddy's song......
Ironic isn't it that when blacks made NOTHING BUT GREAT MUSIC they were shunned. Now that they make NOTHING but GODAWFUL gangsta cRAP we're bombarded with it ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!
@windeddy I am assuming that the producers must have felt that Blacks were not good enough dancers to be on the program..........ahemmmmm.

that dark haired girl behind them is freakin' me out :o
What's wrong with her? I see nothing different from the others.
Great tune ! But so weird, it always makes me think of "Backfield in Motion"
Miss this music...what happened????

@DetroitLives313 those dancers are a sad sorry lot I don't know how they kept from flippin out all that awful dancing ruining their beautiful music
@windeddy A lot of shows, the audiences were segregated back then. So you would see black performers but no blacks in the audience.
@philburrell Well thanks for schooling me pops, very much appreciated. Now lets enjoy some music.
i met jerry butler in person at a video store in chicago and that is definitely not him.
ahahah. yea, man, there just weren't any good black dancers in the '60s! (sarcasm).
17 yr old High School Senior! Special memories 😅
That is not Jerry Butler in the middle , that is Sam Gooden. Jerry Butler left the Impressions in 1958, this is from 1963.
Curtis Mayfield (1942-1999) complications of diabetes

No black Dancers!?
The drummer on this song is exceptional.
Back in 1963 you didn't see many blacks on t.v or videos and it wasn't because there weren't any good black dancers, the cause was racism
gospel-soul.
