Exposition ASIAN WEEK SEPTEMBRE 2023

Dear friends and collectors, This 39th sale dedicated to Asian Modern Art features the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine and in particular Lê Phổ, Mai Trung Thứ and Vũ Cao Đàm. "These three turned to the examples of Chinese art - and they found themselves very comfortable understanding this lesson in sobriety and delicacy. [...] The supple grace of the women who populate their paintings remains mysterious to us 'white barbarians'... These creatures with their long eyes and small mouths, who maintain something distant and modest in all their attitudes, what are they dreaming of? In all the compositions by our three artists, there are no brutal movements, no violent expressions: dignity, meditation, gentleness, gentleness with undertones... This Asian art is a conversation in a low voice - and silences count 1 ... ".
