This is the high point of an amazing album. True North was my favourite song in the world for quite a while, but this song has surpassed it. Such wonderful and mysterious lyrics, and it's extraordinarily beautiful.
That's what's great about pinback. You get one of their albums and you got your instant favorites and then ignore the other songs.... but then those songs you ignored grow on you and you start hearing things you didn't hear before and then those ignored songs become your favorite songs. I remember listening to their old albums when they first came out and liking the obvious like penelope, loro, but then songs like Talby, bbtone, boo, tres, charborg, messenger became my favorites.
@@shadowselfCA Oh yes. I realized a while back that these lyrics, in the first verse are literally about data analytics, which I formed my life around. I sing them constantly. Stay on target. Stay on point. Keep to the mission. Stay in the moment - one false turn...it all starts again.
Cold war paranoia and espionage set to a lovely, satirical slice of mellow, sandiegan alt rock. The kind only Pinback can provide. 10/10 video set to a 10/10 song. Perfectly paired.
Pinback is so perfect in every way. No review can capture just how perfect they are so just sit back and listen. I will, at the Black Cat DC 9/11/14. Can't wait!
I`m not sure if its the simple yet mastered musical arrangement, or the perfection of the harmonious way they sound together, the lyrics not cheap, the beauty of it all telling a story that can really be taken in several directions, but I love this song....
I think I get it now! The machine in the field isn't a Babbage Mill, like on the album cover. It's a time machine. All the characters are in a time loop. The Machine is triggered, then all the characters awake just prior to the Event. Condor Dude makes some calculations, then makes a phone call: "It's about to go down RIGHT NOW!" Transporter Dude takes down all the maps and steals a bakka. Mrs Moneypenny tries to disappear into the woodwork. The office clears out. Mrs Moneypenny gives key pieces of the Machine to Transporter Dude. Zed comes in and yells at the tech geeks: "WTF have you animals done! It's being assembled as we speak! Where is the fscking bakka?!" Condor Dude uses electronic gear to try to find the Machine. Zed's boys beat up Transporter Dude, but "retrieve no information", so to speak. The bakkas can apparently communicate with each other. Smiley watches the entire time loop unfold from a "separate continuity" and takes notes with a stopwatch. Transporter Dude assembles the Machine in a field and uses his bakka to trigger the Event. "One false turn, it all starts over again." Boom.
yo, youuu basically nailed it (I’d love to know how you came up with all the character names - somehow, I could continuously tell exactly who you meant)
@@mosesfoxtrot The real genius was the director of this music video, he really nailed the story and the song. The last scene of the video was basically a recreation of the "Information Retrieved" album cover. The characters just seemed familiar from movies I had watched over the years, like "The Transporter", "Day of the Condor", "Smiley's People", "Men in Black" and various James Bond films.
4:45 Freezit! Isn't this image sort of the 'Information Retrieved' album cover? A guy in a field facing down a Babbage machine, even down to the glowing bakka in his hand.
Hey @@mosesfoxtrot , just found your channel, and citations for other work with Pinback. Thank you very much for this video, I have enjoyed it greatly! You never got an Internet Movie Database citation for it, I hope that can be corrected. I for one would love to hear more about the locations, actors, and your story inspiration. If this is work you enjoy, I hope you get to do more, because it is clear that you do great work.
Pinback, please reunite. We need you
Gorgeous song ❤
Pinback always makes me feel like I'm staring at a bright blue sky on a sunny day. I love the work they do.
Stay on point.
Have Pinback ever made a bad song? I don't think. Every song is something good or great.
I don't think I realized how great of a song this is way back, but now I do understand.

They are so incredibly wise. I love this band more than any other. Absolutely flawless 🔥

Information Retrieved isn't just an album, it's a multi-dimensional event.
Here I am seven years later, agreeing with you. They knew things.

You're insanely right, it seems like every song is speaking to me about the very things i experience lately
And eleven years ago still
This is the song off Information Retrieved that still has that intimacy that pinback has been so god damn good at creating
Playing this on repeat.
Cheers, then as well as years later 🌹
