I was at the 1999 race it was my first race I was 7 or 8 a young black kid from Manhattan NYC experiencing an event that had captivated me from when I was able to understand it all up until Jeff retired. I mention the fact that I was black because it was taboo to be a fan of nascar as a kid in the hood lol hell it's still not necessarily popular. Was so happy Jeff won in the first race id ever been to. THANK YOU JEFF GORDON FOR ALL THE MEMORIES!

I was in kindergarten in 99', and Gordon had been my driver for as long as I could remember. Even had a birthday cake with his famous T-Rex car. Glad we could both have fond memories as kids of the sport.

Gordon was so good at road courses. Many times he had a badly timed caution or something set him back in the pack, always fun watching him charge through the field on the road.

The 1999 win at Watkins Glen was his last win with Ray Evernham as crew chief.

Few years late. Most people, rightly so, remember Jeff as amazing on road courses.
However, in the last decade of his career (06'-16') The Glen was statistically his worst track on the whole schedule.

It's s shame that he didn't seem to have much success at the Glen after 2001. But a lot of that was down to just bad luck.

+CoolDL yeah after that it became Tony Stewart's track, he won all his races at the Glen after Jeff won his last race there.

he got spun by biffle lap one turn one while leading in 03 where he played catchup the whole day and ran out of gas off last turn, he spun out leading with two to go in 07, then in 14 i think he had the fastest car and his ignition went haywire where he lost power chasing ambrose down while running second. he def could have won a couple more there had things gone slightly different in his favor. so yes jeff wasn't the luckiest driver the latter part of his career it sure seemed.

@@iconr6racer In 2014 he had a very fast car i think he got the pole for that race as well along with a new track record if i am correct. Too bad he had electrical problems so it wasn't like he forgot how to preform on road courses just a lot of bad luck.

If Nascar and dodge wouldn't have separated evernham and Gordon it's hard to tell how many championships they would have won ....probably at least a 150 races easy.
