- In Herand, this water powered sawmill has been active since late 1500s. Johan Haugen is operating it, and teaching new craftsmen how to use the saw, which is still very much in use for restoration projects, where you want the process to be authentic.

That's the most productive water powered saw mill I've ever seen! I was amazed at how small the water wheel was!
Most of those reciprocating saw mills cut very slow, this one is fast.
@@bigredc222 really? I didn't notice...😄
It's actually really cool to see these things work. And it's all precision mechanical. Older ways are sometimes better
I have one big complaint about this video............it's far too short & not nearly as long as I would like it other than that..... awesome!
Wonderful, powered by mother nature.
True conservation.
Good Work Men. (And Lady nature)
Ti Che. The power of water applied appropriately.
Old school is cool :)
Absolutely beautiful! Do you have any more videos of this and/or the restoration process? Also, what will the lumber that is cut be used for?
Thank you J Dewitt - you can see some short clips from the project here: instagram.com/hardangerogvossmuseum/ The wood being cut in this video was used for the restoration of a listed wood house with a turf roof.
Very interesting. Thanks for the extra information!
