Much respect to our pacific brothers and sisters! I think most people don’t realise how hard this work is. It is back breaking, hard manual labour that most people are not interested in doing. In my opinion the RSE scheme exists because most NZers are not interested in doing the work. Sure the wages could go up to try and make these jobs more appealing, but when the govt pays people for doing absolutely nothing, then these hard manual labor jobs become even more less appealing If the argument is that the industry couldn’t survive if the workers were paid better wages then the industry is broken. Our agricultural industries were built off the backs of hard working immigrants. I know a lot of local growers and they are extremely hard working people. 7 days a week, sun up to sun down.They are at the mercy of the supermarket giants and large distribution chains in order to sell their products, and compared to the work they put in, and the financial risks they run balancing operating costs they are not profiting like the supermarket giants are. Much respect goes to anyone willing to get off their ass and put in the hard work needed in order to provide for their families and try and make a better way for their future.
I've personally have had the chance to work with our RSE brothers and sisters and they are absolutely amazing workers of all aspects and I know for fact everyone of them were sending majority of there oay check back home to there families mad loves always good vibes in the packhouse and orchards everyday
