I’m starting an n gauge due to lack of space so it was great to see what you did

Instead of watching a train chasing its tail around an oval layout, consider a tram! As a matter of fact, your passing siding is perfoect for accommodating two trams! And you have a sidng for a carhouse!

Looks like a great start. I've always found modular railways involve too many compromises, and often don't look good either individually or in combination.
I look forward to seeing where you take this.
If you can't have your layout on a narrowboat, have you considered putting a narrowboat (and canal) on your layout?

The n gauge looks good I thought it might be a bit too teeny tiny!

There are several suggestions for building a railroad layout yourself
Find a suitable set of plans online
Find a colleague who wants to build one too so you have someone to encourage you
(I learned these and the reasons they work on Jareks Hobby Club website )

N gauge isn't as small as you think and you can do a lot more with it like run realistic consists in the same space as compromised 00 gauge consists!

That 2' by 4' N gauge layout looks similar to what a OO gauge 4' by 2' might be. I have never tried N gauge, but it looks as if it might be a good idea for those who like to see trains running in a confined space. Not sure whether or not N would be good for a shunting layout, though.

Some fine grass reinvigoration skills you have there and what was that I saw in the background, it wasn't 'my narrowboat life from beginning to end by you Daniel Mark Brown' was it?!

I like the scissor, otherwise difficult to grasp the scale (for me at least:-)
What is the size of the table btw?

This is a 2x4 foot desk, if you take a look at my recent videos, I've almost completed a simpler layout even than this!

I wonder if You could possibly add hinges in the rails so you can fold it up or something, just a thought probably not possible.

First of all, always nice to see a Schools class running around (always tempted by that livery), and am also personally finding out all the issues of modular setups for one of my layouts and do agree, sometimes it's not really worth it if you can get away with just a single board.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the layout.

Take the wire dip it flux. Put it in a clip. Take the soldier and iron place the iron on soldier wire once you see melt on the tip touch it to the wire you want to soldier. As soon as the flux start to cook add some soldier to the wire keep heat from iron on wire not soldier. And watch the soldier fill the wire. Test a few single wires before you twist cpl together to soldier. You'll pick it up quickly and easily this way.

I live in an apartment and want to build a temporary layout on my dining table (40"x60") but it needs to be removable so I can still use the dining table. I created a plan using Kato's M1 and V9 sets. This creates a figure eight with two tracks that cross over. The base will be a painted table cloth for grass, roads, dirt, gravel, etc. in the middle of the layout will be a small town using DPM's Town & Factory set plus a few other buildings. There is one intersection and the builds ae glued to a thin plastic rectangle with decor (people, street lights, signs etc all glued to the "sidewalk" city block. This way, a block with buildings and decor can be removed and stored. Trees will be glued to "islands" with grasses and bushes so they may be removed as a unit. I'm still at the beginning stage, but I think it will work fine. I like your layout. I hope you do more videos about it. Good luck.

Elevation on a layout is not a problem as long as you don't try to run trains over it.

  • @liamkett5203
    @liamkett5203 5 років тому

You could add a 2nd loop, could have no sidings so a train can smoothly run around a loop while another can go through sidings
