I personally still don't agree that we as Christians should get tattoo. We don't need to have tattoo on our flesh to say that we belong to JESUS, the Holy Spirit in us is enough. So I don't see the point of doing so if God Himself say that we shouldn't get one.
We aren’t under the old law anymore. We are free from earning our salvation. We can get a tattoo or eat pork now, etc. But yes we are to honor our bodies and are to honor God with everything we do.
She never said we SHOULD. She just simply decided to get one herself and said she doesn't see it as a sin. She's not telling others to do it.
If you follow 1 law in Leviticus, then you should follow all the other 600. That is the Old Testament & God was specifically talking to the Israelites. We don’t live under those laws but everyone’s conviction is different. If you feel like you shouldn’t get one, then you shouldn’t.
Why would you want to be free of God's perfect law? It is found all over the Word of God... especially Psalm 119 about how awesome it is. Why would you not want to do them? Why would God do away with something so beautiful? I love His laws, all His laws. Jesus kept the law perfectly and I want to do what Jesus did. He came to set us free from sin and death, not God's perfect, good, holy law. It is a blessing to those who keep it. I am thankful God opened my eyes to see the truth. I love Joyce, but that bit at the beginning is false teaching. Traditions of men are not only in Judaism; Christianity is full of them. Seek truth, and ask the Father. God never changes.
But we are free from the law. Thank God! We are not justified by works of the law, but by grace through faith. The law is now written on our hearts and when we walk by the Spirit, we do fulfill the law. But as all of us slip, thank God, we are not under the law. Bible says, that everyone who relies on the law is cursed.
Romans 7:6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
If you heard the whole cermon, she said we are called to be holy. Here she was talking about the judgement - condemnation - that we put on each other.
Maybe read Galatians 3
Romans that talks about the freedom from the law, and also Hebrews...
@alicest5777 Hey Alice, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I have some rebuttle i'd like to share. I feel like conversations like this are never fruitful and usually I don't comment like that, but I felt compelled to do so. I truly hope you hear what I will be sharing below. Think about it, pray about it. I have been where you are.
Ok, so...do you think we are free to murder now or steal or covet? Of course not, but that is part of the law. Jesus came to take away the eternal punishment of us breaking the law not take it away. We will still be judged by every act we do whether good or bad....how do we know what sin is? It's transgression of His law. I do not believe I am saved by works, only by the grace of God, but I do believe we should keep them as best we can as showing love to the Father. They are the fruits of our walk. Just like parents have rules for their kids, to protect them and show them blessings if they are obedient. We will never do it perfectly. Jesus is our example of how to live it out . He did it perfectly. So why would we not want to mimic what He did? Christianity likes to cherry pick which laws are to be kept. No thanks, I'll just try to follow what the Bible says and not follow what man says is applicable. 1John 5:3 says, " for this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments and his commandments are not burdensome."
God doesn't change. God created all those laws. Jesus was a Jew. He celebrated Passover, Sukkot, Hanukkah, all of God's holidays. Why does Christianity seem like something entirely different from what Jesus and his disciples did. Most don't even keep one of the 10 commandments...Keep the Sabbath day holy. Which is not on Sunday, but Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, just like Jesus celebrated it. Man changed the day, not God. Think about it. Search it out. Read the Bible from the beginning. The new testament is based on the old. How could you understand the Bible without a firm foundation from the beginning? Then the whole story makes much more sense. The God of the old testament is the same God as the new. I don't need to prove to you that we should return to His holy, awesome law. You need to prove to me that somehow God changed the rules. Jesus says in Matt. 5:17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the law or the prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you until heaven and Earth pass away. Not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the law until all is accomplished"
What does fulfill mean? Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies that qualified Him, or let us know that He was the Messiah. That is how we know he was the Messiah. And heaven and Earth are still here today so I don't think it makes sense to say that his death and resurrection was the ending point for the law. Paul needs to line up with my Messiah, not the other way around. How can you dispute our Savior's own words?
That's funny. She use to preach about tats being a sin.
Growth in the grace and knowledge of our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST will do that. ❤
