I love my softail standard! The seat was first to go. It's my first Harley that wasn't a bagger. I did get a windshield for road tripping. I put a kuryakan soundbar and downloaded some sound booster apps for it. That's an FXST Standard your riding, I love that style bike but I hear you on the fairings. My first HD was a Heritage and it was a windshield bike and super comfortable. My old electraglide was a great traveling bike.

That breakfast you had at the beginning of the video looks SO good! I agree on the lane splitting. I'm not a fan of it and I'm okay with just going with the flow of traffic. Maybe it's because I've only ridden in states where no one knows how to drive or watch out for motorcycles. 🤷‍♀ Whether you lane split or not, it's about riding your own ride and enjoying it. Glad you had such a great time in CA. I've been living vicariously through your videos since WNY weather is NOT cooperating and I've only been able to get out a few times so far (still managed to do about 500 miles though). Can't wait for the next video to drop about the Nightster!

Jess love ya girl, but you were on a FXST. Not an FXBB. It only is a 107. I have a 2021 FXST. They do rip. I had to change the seat too. I put forward controls and a T Sport fairing on mine. That’s the beauty of that bike it’s a clean slate.

I thought that was a Softail Standard with the 107 engine. The Street Bob is blacked out and comes with the 114, but the Standard is chrome.

  • @Catalyst_94
    @Catalyst_94 2 роки тому

I may be wrong but I think that’s the Softail Standard which has a 107 and chrome (which is the only think that makes it different from the street bob). It’s a cool bike either way. I was checking a Street Bob out recently and I’d for sure have to change the seat immediately.

I love this video. I only started riding four years ago. I purchased the Sportster Iron 1200. Of course, I got grief about buying a sportster and then when I wanted to update my exhaust, I received even more grief. I did what makes me happy. I love riding at my own pace. I ride mainly with my husband but when a couple of friends ride with I always say I am also a big girl and can find my way to wherever we are going because I will always ride at a pace that I am comfortable with.

At first I was nervous through the curves but once I got comfortable, I loved it. Became such a habit, that even solo, I stay on my side of the lane.

So, my first concern with the Streetbob is the instrumentation. All gauges contained in a 2.14 in LED screen. Bearing in mind it is a purpose-designed scooter, I can overlook that it is not equipped for touring. But that solo seat? Nope, not hardly. About that lane splitting--that is like begging to be attacked with a BIG gun. I believe my 56-year riding success is 100% due to situational awareness and willingness to back out of a potential problem with a car or truck. It was common on the DC Beltway to see fast bikes (you know what I mean) being piloted at high speed on the back wheel. And just as common to see them being scraped off the road, sometimes out of the car whose windshield they had penetrated. Along with the dead passengers. Okay, that is enough of that. I am really looking forward to seeing more of the H-D lineup, not that I don't like the others, but I am a Harley, Ford and Beechcraft kind of guy.

YOUR RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE IS ENCOURAGING. I love your encouragement . I am still trying to decide what kind of bike to get after not riding for 20 years. Last bike an 83 Kawasaki GPZ 750. I really want to have a bike with ABS. Only planning to ride back roads around 50mph. I am thinking of a BMW G310R because I can get a new one for just over $5000. A lot of folks are saying don't get such a small bike. I think it will be alright for me. Looking for a bike with ABS in my price range that isn't small is tough, unless I want to get a used BMW that is like 20 years old. I am not mechanical so I need to pay for all service except for oil changes and chain maintenance. Also I don't want forward controls. Suggestions anyone?????

Hey Bro , if you know how to clutch brake, shift gears ⚙️ , and have a steady throttle hand 🤚🏼 , and the ability to drive manual vehicles , don’t bother with a bike with that small of an engine , and I’m not saying get on the biggest fastest engine you can afford, but the peeps telling you to stay away from 300’s , i think it’s good advice , those type of small engined bikes are somewhat designed to teach people the basics and get familiar with the physics , and sometimes it’s really too basic , and once your comfortable in the muscle memory of it , which should not take more than idk 30-40 hrs of actual street riding and the confidence to take control of the bike , next step 🆙 you need to get on the freeways or highways , and it shouldn’t take you more than 5-10 hours to get really comfortable at freeway speeds ,once you’ve got the basics and seat time down and comfortable, and after two or three weeks or months , you are going to be bored with the lack of power to get on to freeway speeds , cause it’ll take too long to get up to speed and you’ll be hitting full throttle every time you get on to the freeways to try to pass , and you will fall into the club of trying to step it up to a bike that will hit triple digits plus (cause that is what you need for cruising and passing power to get past danger ⚠️ on (NORTH AMERICAN ROADS ),does not mean you need to go or hit triple digits , you just need the torque , then you’ll be trying to pass off the bike to a real beginner , 500 cc bikes are considered to be really slow (unless it’s a dirt bike)and kind of a beginner bike as well , I think a 600 plus twin cylinder bike is really what you should be on , not a in line 4 , 600 plus cc bike , those are for racing at the track , idk best advise should be figuring out what it is that youlll be using the bike for ..???? Learning ? Touring ? Camping ? Commuting? Racing ? Cruising around town or in the mega regions of this world , but anyhow I got 3 bikes right now and I’m trying to get it down to one ☝️ or two 🤷🏻‍♂️ so I can have room for my next bike on the list of bikes I want to experience ...but right now , I have a 2018 Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 , a 2020 Kawasaki Z900abs , and a 2022 Kawasaki Zx6r, and I don’t really want to sell the Vulcan S , but I’m looking at the new 2022 Indian Scout Rouge or scout bobber as my next cruiser , I only have room for three bikes , so anyway if your interested in a 2018 Vulcan S , I can give you more information if you’d like , this was my beginner bike when I turned the big 40 , I rode scooters and dirt bikes for a little bit in my late teens but after a couple of years , I needed a car and abandoned riding on two for the comfort of a “car” , and always had the itch to get back on two , anyways here I am in my next goal to find all the motorcycle therapy I can get , lol 😂 anyhow HMU If your interested ...???

i dont like riding in groups. but i do like traveling with 1 or 2 other riders. not necesarly staying together . but doing like planned stops together. mostly for safety. like hey dudes 30 min late maybe he has a flat or rode off a cliff. but im old been riding looooooong before cell phones. although cell phone coverage in a lot of areas is bad.

Good on you for NOT doing the lane splitting thing. I wouldn't do it on a bet. NEVER, EVER do something that you have qualms about doing. Motorcycling requires confidence...every non-Californian I know who has been there on a bike and tells me how great lane splitting is, always causes me to see them as cocky more than confident... and there is significant difference. Riding from IN to Cali in early June. Long trip.. but, wind therapy.

That bike shop was great. I'm not a fan of tats myself, but I liked the less specialized approach (not just parts or clothes or bikes or food, but ... all of em and more!).
The awareness that cars have for lane sharers didn't used to be a thing in CA. It's only since the law was passed and the CHP did some marketing about it. That is the only good thing about making lanesharing a law IMO. It was legal before because it was not explicitly disallowed. There's no law saying I can breathe air, either, do we need one or am I gonna suffocate shortly? But hey, at least people have largely shut up about it now. They still can't stay in the same spot in their lane, though. Most drivers are oblivious, but some see you coming.
Malibu has the beach and all, but quite honestly, that traffic looked pretty light from what little I've seen when I was down there. It SUCKED. And the road is straight there. There are several awesome canyon roads that dump you onto 1 though. Latigo Canyon was one that I REALLY liked. I rode it down hill, which I think would be more fun than up, but either way would be good.
You can buy one without a fairing, but you want a windscreen. It makes SO much difference! I pulled the windscreen off my Road King once and even doing 55 was like being assaulted. If you're sitting more upright, you need some wind protection for sure. At least in my opinion.
I know all the bike companies are in SoCal, but I wish you'd venture up to the Bay Area once in a while. You're missing out on a lot of the good stuff!
They may jest with Moto Martha, but it's the smart ones that are prepared. They should learn from you!
A 114 on a smaller bike like that.... I can see why it rips. Same power, less weight to pull down the road.
"The wrong shoes?" Why would you own "wrong shoes" for riding? I hope you've learned your lesson, young woman! 😉
Small groups, particularly if you know the others well and can trust them not to ride like a doofus, can be good. It makes for more interesting stops/meals.
I love your independence, open mindedness and enthusiasm for riding. There weren't many wheels or squeals at doggies this time. Gotta work on that. Always room for improvement, right?

California lane splitting surprised me at first. Then I took my bike down Highway One. I did a little lane splitting, but it felt weird and dangerous. But what a ride! Incredible views all the way.

Would you lane split like that on Appa? I find that since I went up to touring bikes with highway pegs that jut out and stuff that I get less and less comfortable lane splitting. I’ll note I’m a Chicago area native and we can’t legally do it in Illinois so I’m not well practiced in the art of lane splitting anyway.

Probably not. Doing it on these small bikes was nerve wracking enough.

Just be careful when lane splitting; it only takes one jerk who has a chip on their shoulder to ruin your day.
Have lots of fun on the PCH and Highway 101!
Side note, what happened to your fire engine helmet?

I prefer riding solo, except if I’m going long distant. Then I like to go with a buddy. Once a buddy and I went down to Mexico (he was kinda able to speak Spanish). But we got separated and I had a hard time asking people if they had seen him. But I don’t like riding with lots of people.
