    Yes I could see that it was difficult and challenging but THE RESULT! the leather inlays were simply superb. And the leather piece to open it was perfect. You are brilliant at what you do. Super well done.

    I recently thought about getting rid of a family antique children’s rolltop desk about 100 years old. But I saw a restoration of one on UA-cam and just fell in love with it. I can’t afford to have it redone by someone else so I was looking up a channel to see if I could get help doing this. I’m 74 years old but the way it was restored and painted was just so cute. It was done in a sea green with parts of it in natural wood.I’m going to stop here and look at your instructions and hope that they are helpful. The cloth underneath the roller needs to be replaced as well. Thanks for being here

      Best of luck! That cloth I used is duck canvas. You can get it online or most fabric stores.

    Very beautiful result ! I saw in other videos that the canvas backing doesn't get glued all the very to the end of the half rounds , it might be the fabric and the glue that doesn't slide so well. Just a thought . I have a huge roll top desk in my studio that would need the same work. Otherwise : an excellent job.

    Did you use the stamp at all? I think the lady could have been told how many there were but not where they were. Let them surprise her. I have always loved wood, my grandpa was forever saying “lovely bit of wood”. His shed, garage house even was filled with these “lovely bits of wood”, and I caught the bug. I wish I could have learnt everything he could have taught me but we didn’t live in the same country so only saw each other rarely. But what he did teach me is forever with me.

    That desk and chair set turned out VERY nicely! I love the color of the stain on the wood, it really sets things off. .Now, maybe a nice leatherette or tapestry fabric seat cushion (probably have to have an upholsterer do it for the size speciality.) would set it off perfectly, but kids that size are normally really fidgety to sit still for too long, but you might get the studious poindexter type kid that might sit still. I think it would do nicely in a shop window for a used bookstore, (as a prop) with lots of books, stationary, art supplies...all the things that sadly, no one uses anymore. Especially children. (sigh.) That desk would have been my prized posession when I was a child, years ago. I liked to color and draw, with crayolas as we are young, then growing up, paints and colored pencils, etc. I hope someone will enjoy this, and doing projects upon it!

    • @JohnBearWoodworks
      @JohnBearWoodworks  4 роки тому +2

      It's best to mark the ends of whatever with a sharpie or pencil. Just wherever you wont be doing much sanding or you won't see once you reglue. Best of luck to you! Chairs can be quite tricky even if you have the right parts back in order. Just make sure once you have it glued and clamped up to make sure the legs are square! Measure back to front legs diagonally and your measurements should match up.
