  • Now that I am retired, I just might show my life and some of the towns around me. My Brother and Dad, live on the same Dead End Road and yea, maybe we just might get into trouble a little, but have fun doing it. It is time to start smelling the Roses on the way instead of looking at them and passing them by.

    Mike, once again I enjoyed your video. The clock works looked shinier as soon as you took it out of the green goop. You are very methodical. Something I appreciate since I have ADHD. I’ve always wanted to skip steps to get to the end result and duh 🙄 that never works!! You are very brave taking these clocks apart. 🕰 🛠 I made a few polymer clay clocks using the hands and works from the arts and crafts store. They got bent over the years. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to take on that repair now.

      Joanne Bea, I was lucky to be able to watch my dad work on clocks and also able to pick up cuckoo clocks from the thrift store. It was all interesting. But especially how you adjust the tick and tock to be smooth. These clocks were made to be fixed & keep working. Nowhere I've lived had kitchen exhaust fans. I had to use a lid or spatter screens.

      You can use Dawn Dishwashing soap with Hot water and let it soak, along with swishing it around. Also use a toothbrush to help get the oils and dust off the gears and plates. Do remember that it cleans, but not as well as a clock cleaning fluid. So, what this means is it might take some time to work in the Clock Oil. Such as it might not want to run for very long and you will have to hit the pendulum several times to get it running all the time. Hope this help you out Mike Roe.

    Can you help or suggest what I should do.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  4 роки тому +2

      You can do one of two things. 1. The Safest way is to; Keep swinging the pendulum every time you walk by it until it can loosen up and keep on running. 2. The not so safe way unless you have the right tools and experience you can take the face off and see the little keeper that holds the spring from unwinding with the key, Put the key in and act like you are winding it, but at the same time use a small screwdriver to hold the little lever back and only unwind a 1/4 of a turn at a time. Why, because this is a bit dangerous and if your hand slips off the key, it could tear your hand up before you know it.
      Hope this help you Virginia Cook

      There is the brass piece with the square hole in it. That will pop out of the minute hand. If you notice, it has little gear like teeth. Have you clock strike the hour, and move the minute hand to the 12 and press it back on the brass piece with the square hole in in Abraharn Wu.

      Paul, my cleaning of the clocks is for the people that want to try on their own to get their clocks going again. Some don't want to spend a ton of money bringing their clock to a clock smith and some don't have one in their area. Taking the clock apart is way over most people's heads and then putting the clock back together and getting the timing right so the clock will work again.
      For what I show on my channel is a way to get started on the cuckoo clock and start to understand different things about their clocks. I help a lot of people with my email address below the video that I don't get paid for. This channel is a great start to learning a little about cuckoo clocks and what makes them tick.

      It is for clock cleaning, and it comes in a gallon jug that you dilute with water. It smells like ammonia and is so strong, that you need to open the container OUTSIDE. So that might give you a hint on making your own from a local store.

      @@justmike57 Ammonia was taken off the shelfs. Just try to find it in any cleaning isle at the store.

      @@badbadbob1 , They do have a very good degreaser at the autoparts store that is safer. I do believe they call it PURPLE for degreasing.
