Growing up in the late 70's, 80's etc... no one quite gave me that 'feeling' that Stevie did... every other singer was shallow and didn't interest me.... Stevie was beautiful and ethereal, yet when she opened her mouth and sang and that beautiful strong, raspy voice came out it was magic.... never been one before her... and never will there be one after one.... "Once in a million years a lady like her rises....."...... Love you, Stevie. Thank you so much for the music!!!
This has to be the perfect song. The lyrics, guitar work and over all arrangement is a perfect mix. I agreemwith Reginald Bigley that this is the best song she ever wrote.
Because then You would have too much in common. That is why we must share our love with those less fourtanate of ever having Love, right? Check out outside the rain then this one in that order w/ " thrown down through the arms of sleep she fell through the ivory morning deep into the waters of the one She called Love" Live and Love!
One of my favourites ever, the melody is just perfect and the lyrics, from the breathy 'this time'to 'well each time I think it was you babe'truly a masterpiece.
Absolutely LOVE this song, and I INSIST that my SN Tribute band do this one as often as possible...how could any Stevie FAN not LOVE this song....??? Stevie. Amazing. Unique. WE LOVE YOU!
I've always loved Stevie's poetry. This is a wonderful example of her more ethereal poetry, and it's one of her songs that really captivated me the very first time I listened to it. I've read that she wrote this upon moving into a new home on her own with a lot of time to herself and to reflect on who she was and where she was going personally and professionally. It seems to allude to an inner, one sided conversation she's having with herself. The music itself has a very dreamlike rhythm and feeling. I can't think of another vocalist that could sing this and make it feel the same. It has somewhat the same feel as 'Gypsy'
Just up-graded my stereo components and this was the first song I played, from disc. There was just always something...pure, beautiful...soothing about this song. Thanks Stevie for sharing your talent and keeping some self-respect and class no matter what.
To J. And how I loved this song. I remember, after loosing Mike, I sat in the yard by a 🌲 tree. By our beautiful house,I played this song, and cried so dam hard. 1996
I loved and pondered this album, this song, and it never had any connection to anyone, or to any other album (Blonde on Blonde) or even to the year (1983) when I was imprisoned in a very secluded tower, for a year and a day. But now, this album "The Wild Heart" has many more levels of meaning. I am seeing Stevie for who I believe she really might be. A visionary.
The writer becomes the oracle to her life or the tribute to the way she remembers the feelings, visuals at that time.-like the poet Yeats describes the whirl of a feeling and color of points in time past as being like the blur of dyed wool in a loom spinning so fast that in his recollection it seemed time only had one color when surely many various strands evoked the feeling of a single hue.
Thank you for posting this. I can't believe there were pictures that I hadn't seen. Although both she and Christine look extremely annoyed at 3:13, I don't think she's ever taken a bad picture. She's beautiful both on the outside and the inside
I'll never stop loving you my QUEEN take me with you rock on forever and ever you BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL good witch my Queen take me with you I sang you all my life you ARE my life my Queen I love you
"Sable On Blond" Learn to be a stranger Blond on blond In silence she says... "excalibur" I beg of you now What was it that fell Was it... One fallen leaf Like the feather that it was Was... freedom by choice Or baby... was it love Was it a thorn in your side Something that you hide Something you don't touch Because it hurts too much Ooo... Well... have you come to see That my face is not seen Ooo... outside my frost covered windows Oh and just how deep... Do you hold that dream In your hands each night... this time In your hands each night... this time Oh was it you... I heard calling... which voice Well I know that you are going Which voice... Did I force you to remember In the sacred name of love... To be brave save the stranger Sable on blond... Dark upon light... Because it hurts too much Just how deep Do you hold that dream In your hands each night In your hands each night In your hands each night Ooh... I beg of you now What was it that fell Well this time I think it was you babe This time Ooo... well I think it was you babe This time Ooo... well I think that it was you baby This time...

Just an absolute gem from her. This song is neglected; didn't even make the Enchanted boxed set, but it should have. Haunting
This song is absolutely gorgeous. I can't get over how good it is. I am living for it.

"Sable On Blond"
Learn to be a stranger
Blond on blond
In silence she says... "excalibur"
I beg of you now
What was it that fell
Was it...
One fallen leaf
Like the feather that it was
Was... freedom by choice
Or baby... was it love
Was it a thorn in your side
Something that you hide
Something you don't touch
Because it hurts too much
Ooo...
Well... have you come to see
That my face is not seen
Ooo... outside my frost covered windows
Oh and just how deep...
Do you hold that dream
In your hands each night... this time
In your hands each night... this time
Oh was it you...
I heard calling... which voice
Well I know that you are going
Which voice...
Did I force you to remember
In the sacred name of love...
To be brave save the stranger
Sable on blond...
Dark upon light...
Because it hurts too much
Just how deep
Do you hold that dream
In your hands each night
In your hands each night
In your hands each night
Ooh... I beg of you now
What was it that fell
Well this time I think it was you babe
This time
Ooo... well I think it was you babe
This time
Ooo... well I think that it was you baby
This time...
