There are quirks, but I shot with the FX3 for a long time, and that system had its quirks too. My least favorite thing with XH2S, even with their updated lenses, in the same shooting condition/situation, it seems the lenses aren’t calibrated to operate the same with AF so I have to remember, oh this lens I need to move tracking sensitivity and AF speed to this or that even though the shooting situation is still the same. But I still parted with the FX3 and A7iv. But part of that decision was the A7iv overheated so frequently for me while in SE Asia that it annoyed me. Rumor has it that the A7iv is prone to overheating because they opted to not use copper heatsinks to save cost 🤦♂️
Thank you for sharing your insights on this comparaison. Unfortunately no camera system is perfect. It depends on each’s needs and preference. If what you seek is a more sharper camera (for those who found that as a plus), note that the Sony's cinema cameras are meant to be a bit softer. If you want sharp, the A7IV with the GM2 lens is what you need to look for.
I switched from Sony to the Fuji xh2s, I wouldn't say the Fuji is sharper, but it might look that way if you're comparing for example a 35mm 1.4 on sony vs 23mm 1.4 on fuji, since fuji is a crop sensor camera it has more of the image in focus, making it look sharper, using the sigma 18-35mm 1.8 with manual focus is a dream, especially with the manual focus box assist that fuji has. auto white balance lock is also something i use quite a lot for video work, and the colors straight from the camera like classic chrome and Astia
Hey Gunnar, thanks for your comment. Did you also own an a7s III before or a different Sony? what is “dehancer”, that you mention in the verdict at the end? I wonder if this is something I can experiment with to be happier with footage coming out of Sony cameras
Hey there, great video. I am interested in getting this camera for real estate video and photography. Do you think it would be a great choice? Also, have you had a chance to download the new firmware update, which came just 3 days ago? Looks, like they fixed auto focus issues.
Except for being Cropped in Slow-mo, LUMIX S5ⅡX is the Full-Frame version of X-H2S, but considering Fuji color, S5ⅡX can win as a hybrid camera I think.
I recall when Sony started to get into the game the primary issue was lenses; Canon had them, Sony did not. Fast forward a few years and this is no longer an issue. Fuji needs to share their AF electronics with third party makers to eliminate the lens issue. Third party makers are very good so that should be no problem. Soft ware is a piece of cake. All of this will increase the value of the X-Hs2.
I think in a couple of years much fewer people will care about this. They’ll buy manual focus lenses for video and use LiDAR. Chinese made cinema lenses - actual cinema lenses with very little focus breathing - are getting really good now and LiDAR is improving all the time. God knows what this will do the camera makers’ bottom line…
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have the camera anymore but I know that there was a single button punch in zoom - I just don't remember if it was 200% or 400%.
The focus assist tools on the photography side of the camera are much more useful than the video side. A monitor would be ideal if you really want to be sure.
