Platini is the most clear example of how important it is to have a good public image as a footballer.
Maradonna didn't and he is widely recognised as one of the goats

Did you remember who was the last champion?
@@jillrcpd8227 mate u are actually insane messi got his recognition by being a serial winner .. and as for diego he was a great player but i think pele and diego was represented a lot by fifa that people simply forgot people like platini i mean even before the scandal platini wasnt popular

Maradona scores using his hand and most of the world takes sides with him.
Please bring another example, not Maradona.
the reason platini didn't have so many assists is that they weren't recorded in ligue 1 at the time
What do you mean by that ?
@@lexkanyima2195 they did not count the assist he made playing in ligue 1, they only counted goals in ligue 1 at the time
@@lexkanyima2195 in a lot of sports there is a stat(stats) that don't get recorded/counted until the modern game. Example, the NFL didn't record/count sacks until 1982. 3 pointers weren't counted in the NBA until 1979. Ligue 1 didn't record/count assist.
@@UTxTheArchangel blocks and steals in the nba too
Assists are a very overrated stat
Platini was robbed of the world cup in 1982. The non call on Schumacher after he put Battiston in a coma and knocked out 6 of his teeth is the most absurd thing that ever happened in sports
France should have played in the final twice.
He was robbed of a place in the final you mean. Because the way Italy were playing in '82, there was no stopping them. Not even for France.
@@pritapp788 yeah that is what I meant. I became a supporter of Italy after that World Cup, for avenging Platini. Became a lifelong juve supporter as well

I remeber my aunt always telling me Platini, Maradona and Pele were the top of the world during her time.
Michel Platini is arguably France's best-ever footballer.
Platini was the brightest star in the world back then, winning three Ballons d'Or consecutively in 1983, 1984 and 1985.
Football lovers cried with him when France lost in the World Cup semi-finals again in 1986.
A year later, he retired at the age of 32.
It seemed a premature, cruel decision to the millions who got joy from watching him play.
Platini and Maradona are at their peak in the 80's.
well 2nd brightest a the time. but being 2nd to the best ever aint bad.
He is not underrated.
He played for by far the best Serie A team during his time.
He only played up until 32.
Zidane is much more consistent and better.
He can play for Italy
@@crumbmaisterplatini was way more consistent
Platini is underated
Everybody who watched him play rates him highly. He’s only “underrated” by people who have never watched him play or don’t even know who he is. Thierry Henry even called him his idol. Nowadays, people in yt comments call anybody not named Messi or Ronaldo underrated.
@ZizouEnjoyer225 I've seen people consider Henry ,,griezmanny & benzema better than him
@@yemi3266 That’s because they obviously know nothing about him or his career. That’s why he was 3rd in Raymar’s poll
@@ZizouEnjoyer225he's kinda fraud tbh. He's not a great dribbler.
But tbh I still have him 12th
Platini was elegant and graceful on the pitch. He had a rather long and successful career on both levels: club and international. France won that '84 Euro simply because of him.
The same things can't be said about Zidane though. Even though putting up awesome moves every now and then he did also get several red cards for dirty play. His peak also was rather short: a few nice summer runs in World Cups and a wondergoal in UCL, outside of that nothing too special. He played several seasons for the first candy man team in Madrid with a long list of legends and could only provide one UCL win. He also ended his whole career in disgrace. Materazzi proved that Zidane was a hothead who could explode at any moment.
Platini for me every day of the week, twice on sundays.
Zidane needed a man to dribble in front of him in order to do something amazing with his soloism and balance. In the build up play, especially one or two touch, as well as in offensive positioning and movement he was a bit limited.
Juventus's president Agnelli called him "more entertaining than useful" after selling him, and rated Platini higher as well
I mean materazzi deserved that Head butt
And Zizou deserved that 2nd world Cup win...
Most heartbreaking moment in my football history 💔 😔
But we can't rewrite history. And yeah he was a hot head
@@sohtnax7809no zidane got what he deserved
@@sohtnax7809 for what, telling him to bring him his sister? Like it's the most average thing a defender can say to an opponent, and Zizou headbutted him on his stern, basically an attempted murder. Third headbutt of his career leading to a red card by the way. Soft temper and no leadership. Oh, and France's penalty, which he almost missed to showboat, was non existent but Blatter wanted them to win so bad
@carlosimotti3933 carlosimotti isn't this Italian? Yeah that materazzi goal at 19' was offside. France should have win at full time but Italian mafia turned things around
how can he be forgotten? anyone who watched him and zizu play can surely say that Michel was above any other player on the pitch
Fr 😂
No wc for my idolo platini 😭🙏
Zidane better stop comparing.
Raymar is like that. According to him every footballer from the past is underrated or unknown... Then he proceeds to show a very famous player. Probably on purpose to generate "engagement" in the form of comments.

The number of goals scored shouldn't be the main criteria to assess a player. Zidane brought France to 1998, 2000, and 2006. Zidane had tremendous impact on the rest of the team.

I'm glad someone made a video about this player! More people ought to know about him.
Been waiting for this video. Platini is for me an all-round better footballer than Zidane. I saw this man dominate Euro/World football 82 to 85 (econd only to Maradona. Hs range of passing was second to none, had great vision, dribbling ability (on old style pitches) and the 2nd best goal scorer from midfield I ever saw. Plus he scored so many goals in what was by far the best defensive league (Italy) without the protection modern day footballers get. A deadly free kick artist, he carried both Juve and France for years and was robbed of W Cup final in 86.
Don't get me wrong Zidane is more graceful and had a better first touch and is a fantastic player... but if Platini played in the same or later era he would be spoken about in th same way as Zidane,,, his game was well ahead of his time. Corruption scandal aside one of the best to ever do it. (PS Ask Juv fans who watched both who is the greater legend)
Platini was really special, I think Zinedine Zidane is the best French player, but come on he deserves a lot of credit.
Hey Raymar, sorry about your video being taken down I was going to comment on it but it was too late.
Love from Fluiad ❤❤❤
Platini was better than Zidane by a mile. If you take Platini and put him in a small club like Nancy he still produced great numbers but Zidane could only shine if he was surrounded by stars.
@@theghostofbabanovac7069 you saying by a mile, tells me I shouldn't even try to debate with you, can't tell someone something that knows everything
@@Fluiad He's right tho, I wouldn't say by a mile but Platini was better than Zidane by a considerable margin.
@@Fluiad It was an exaggeration from my part only to highlight the point of Platini being highly underrated nothing more, it was a way of saying that Platini was better than Zidane (it doesn't matter if it's by a mile or by 1 cm)
Platini isn’t one of the best passers ever, he’s THE greatest passer ever.
Dope video! I think Platini is France’s greatest ever player, but I respect your opinion 🤝🏼
I think Totti was superior in that regard but platini is up there with van hangem, netzer and totti.
@@MegaMarco313 so you’re saying Totti is a better passer of the ball than Platini?
@@Conker66 yep.
@@MegaMarco313 alright bet, I’ll tap in.
Most underrated player of all time is here❤
You really have to do a huge deep dive in order to understand how many more great players there were.People like to say that these legends that played so long ago were only good because they didn’t play the football people play today, even though these greats are the people who invented Modern Football.Defenders were also much more ruthless since,Red and Yellow cards didn’t exist until 1970 and from like 1970 to 2000 cards weren’t given as often and you had to do a bunch of ruthless ,outrageous stuff in order to get even a yellow card you had to injure like 4 people.FIFA doesn’t like acknowledging too many greats just to get even more great players and not acknowledge them
There's a reason why all of his assists took place at Juve. His assists didn't really count while playing in France - at least like they do nowadays. For example, he scored 30 goals on the 80/81 season but his whole team gave the total of 4 assists according to Transfermarkt.
You skipped one of the most significant chapters of Platini's story: his 1986 FIFA World Cup performance.
He didn't win it, but his performance, especially in the knockout game against Brazil, is football legend.
And he was definitely past his prime in that cup
you should make a video about Garrincha he is so criminally underrated
Is this the reason why FIFA has officially removed every Platini's content from it's social networks?
Here's a hint:
FIFA released in UA-cam a video about top french footballers of all time, Platini wasn't mentioned.
i asked my dad who have great memories with platini as a player (duo with Boniek who is pole like us) who is better Zizou i Platini and he said platini was more effective but he rather watch zidane
Different era's of football can't be compared
Great video very necessary respect 🙏🏾

another way to say they are close no matter who we prefer :D
The fact that both Zidane and Platini helped France won the Euro
I can watch Raymar’s videos all day, can't say that about a lot of people I sub to.
I had no idea. One of the greatest ever.
bro, most people answering those polls like the one you cited are 14 year old boys who don't even know who Platini is. Doesn't mean anything.
Platini is clear of zidane. Platini was one of the greatest playmaker and second greatest goal scoring midfielder of all time
Donno about this
Greatest playmaker? I was alive for Platini’s career. I loved how he played. Greatest playmaker seems like quite the stretch.
Platini as MIDFIELDER, score 9 goals in 6 matches in EURO 84, and 3x Top Scorers in Series A.
Also Maldini included Platini in his list of the top 3 most difficult players to defend, along with R9 and Maradona
I wished Platini had gotten more attention. He was so special.
You should do a video on Manuel Neuer
Puts out a vote, Platini barely gets the percentages....makes a video, suddenly the Platini gatekeepers appear, knowing all. 😂😂😂
thats how it works, you realise how fantastic a footballer was
Platini had way more assists, he had 60+ just for Juventus alone. 49 assists is probably off Transfermarkt who barely has stats for 20th century games.
Assists count from back then is definitely flawed (not your fault) as I'm pretty sure he netted way more than 49. Platini 83-85 is very close as overall level to Maradona 86-90. Best passer of the ball ever (together with Totti) and better playmaker and goalscorer (and free kick taker) than Zidane, who in turn was a better soloist and dribbler.
Maradona is extremely overrated, before Mexico 86 he was unimportant, after 1986 he was overshadowed by other stars who in my opinion were much better than him. Like Lothar Matthäus, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkart, Van Basten, Baggio. The only time where Maradona shine was in Mexico 86 and despite this his participation was tarnished for cheating against England
@@Aioradeleo27 Nah those players were great but Maradona was stronger in his prime. He's overrated by those who say God, the best ever, not human, better than Pele, won a WC by himself, ecc ecc. He actually did well only in teams when everything was about him. When he had other stars and leaders around he underperformed both at Barca and with Argentina
@@carlosimotti3933 His prime was only at Mexico 86, before and after that he was nothing special. In Italia 90 he was carried by Goycochea and Caniggia, haf he was neutralized by Lothar Matthäus in the final. Without forgetting his repeated use of drugs while he was active, and also during his career as a coach. How can we forget when Maradona came to train Dorados de Sinaloa in Mexico and gave interviews to the media completely drugged or in Russia 2018 when he was seen again completely drugged
@@Aioradeleo27 nah his prime lasted until 1990. He won two league titles, one national cup and the Uefa cup with Naples in a very difficult era. Plus one world cup and one final with Argentina. Both quite lucky and with refereeing decisions in their favour but still.
Before 86 he was already considered the most talented player in the world. At the 90 WC he was outshone by other players but still was the leader of his team. He went nowhere in the Copa America. Because he was indeed human and people should stop obnoxiously idolizing him but that's how fanboys are.
Pelè and Di Stefano (at least) are ahead of him, and Maradona agreed to that
@@carlosimotti3933 No, he was not, before 1986 Platini was considered the most talented player in the world, even Platini has more notable feats at the club level than Maradona since his beginnings. Another example is Lothar Matthäus reached 3 consecutive World Cup finals, Spain 82, Mexico 86 and in Italy 90 he was the figure of that World Cup masterfully leading Germany. He also won a UEFA Cup and an Italian league. In addition to winning everything with Bayern. In my opinion Platini and Matthäus were much better players than Maradona, it's just that Maradona has a whole propaganda apparatus in his favor, to sell the narrative that he was the best of all time when clearly he is not.
Not only the goat of France, but the goat of Juve as well (Del Piero too)
Zidane is better for both you can cry all you want he carried France to a wc against a prime Brazil not Platini...

bro can you make a video about Allan Simonsen??
I have not seen Platini play football, so I don't know how good he was. But what sets Zidane apart was how he made every player in the team play better by controlling the game.
If you count stats, Zidane would come nowhere near any of the top players. But zidane's game especially with France, you can see how he takes his team to the next level. That is something I have seen very rarely afterwards.
thank's for the video! let's be honest. Platini is the best French player ever, and I think the difference between Zidane and Henry is smaller than the difference between Zidane and Platini. There were many attacking players on Zidane's level: Baggio, Rivaldo (another idea for a video), Laudrup, etc.
The best french player ever after Zidane.

1:03 Zidane's dribble was very elegant but it wasn't intentional, was it?
Comparing Zidane to Platini, is like comparing apples to oranges, different eras, different playing styles, some of your audience saw Zidane during his career, I’d be surprised if more than a few actually watched Platini, don’t get me wrong, Platini in his era was regarded to be on the top
Zidane is a way better player. Zidane s art with the ball in unmatched yet. Remember Zidane, Maldini and Maradona have been voted in most expert's all time Playing 11. Platini was a world class player just as what Xavi has been for Spain and Barcelona. But Zidane is an all time great. Platini was a more of a great passer who also had a Frank Lampard's goalscoring ability with him. Zidane s greatness was give him the ball and it becomes an art. The things one can do with a ball with his feet is why people rank or rate players. You can see the type of matches both had played for France and Juventus. You can see platini score more goals always but Zidane, give him the ball and he is more of a Brazilian skilled who could pass like Zico.

If platini won a World Cup he would be considered better then maradona. At club level he was better.
It’s hard to compare the two. Platini played further forward and was expected to score goals. Maradona was a player who mostly created goals for others. I say this despite Platini being my childhood footballing hero. He singlehandedly won Euro 1984 in the same way as Maradona did for Argentina in the World Cup in 1986.
I dont agree, he was the closest in quality to Zidane. But Zidane is the best ever from France.
Platini is a far better passer, better goalscorer, and was more consistent. Zidane was inconsistent as hell. Platini has better stats while playing for much weaker French side. Platini is better.
