As a former Aerie employee and a huge fan of the brand (who also owns pretty much every legging they have), here's some info that might help you shop there: Aerie has different leggings for different purposes and preferences. The first ones you tried on are the "Real me" leggings (more specifically, those are "Real me with pockets" leggings. They're supposed to feel super comfy, buttery soft and pretty much like second skin. I actually have a pair that I wore all throughout my pregnancy (it's an XS!), that's how stretchy they are lol. If you want super compressive leggings for working out, get their "Goals" leggings. They're super compressive and the fabric really feels like workout material. Somewhere in between those two is the "Hugger". Thicker and more compressive than "Real me" but still really really soft and comfy. I like to wear them when the temperature drops versus the "Real me's" which feel like you're not wearing anything and are great for warmer weather. Actually, the leathery ones you tried on are considered "Huggers" but their main fabric is different than the ones you tried, the leather ones are an additional, more fashiony, style. Love them btw and wear them all the time in fall & winter with a hoodie, denim jacket or a shacket/coat, and combat boots. ❤
These three legging styles used to be called "Chill. Play. Move." and you correctly called the "Real me's" chill leggings, that's exactly what they were called before the re-branding. They bring out other leggings that don't fall in those categories but those three are the main ones that are always there, with new colors each season and sometimes slight adjustments, like adding pockets or the crossover waist. Hope this helps. 🥰
Oh my gosh you know so much about their leggings!! The real me’s are def the comfiest leggings I’ve ever worn but I totally get what you’re saying about warmth 😂 I need a bit thicker I think for winter! I’ve already warn the leathery ones out to the mall and felt so cute (but also sooooo comfy) 🤩👏🏼👏🏼

So excited you’re working with Aerie! This has been a long time favorite of mine, particularly the offline collection, and it’s so nice to hear that you find their pieces so cozy and flattering compared to some other brands. It’s a DREAM for us short ladies to have the short legging option!

i'm enjoying this revival of early 2000s mall brands! when i was younger (middle school and high school) all the basic or preppy girls wore american eagle and similar brands (hollister, abercrombie, etc). i was not in the financial bracket during those times and it generally wasn't/isn't my aesthetic, but now as an adult, i love american eagle and aerie for good basics and the fact they are pretty size inclusive and have greatly expanded their inclusivity in model choices. i have a bunch of the american eagle "the everything pocket leggings" and they are my go to leggings for leaving the house. super affordable and i've gotten them on sale for 15$ before. i will say the material from the black ones and the colorful/printed ones are different in those leggings. also love the everything pocket bike shorts, perfect for under really long tops or short dresses. aerie bras and undies can be hit or miss on sizing for me but i have some definite favorite sports bras from them.
Im only 5’0 tall and I only buy 7/8 length leggings and they’re perfect for me!

I love aeries leggings and workout clothes, however, when I tried on their offline leggings. I couldn't even get it past my thigh! I wear medium and it felt like an extra extra small. It was bad.
