  • My 2,089th kite video. I flew the new Sinewave with a few other small parafoils, all of which flew well. Which to buy? Well, some are no longer available, so that makes the choice a little easier.
    Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .

    A fair comparison and appraisal, Jim! 🙈🙉🙊

      Thank you, John. It's not a kite that I would normally buy, but I thought it might be an interesting item to investigate.

    WOW I thought Sinewave was just another parafoil, but I LOVE the frisky "alive" attitude! With the long whip-like tail, the only thing missing are some GOOGLIE EYES! :D And now I MUST HAVE THIS KITE. Heheeheh

      Interesting ! I consider the 'lively' Sinewave a poor design compared to the Bora 7 and wouldn't have one as a gift ! Takes all sorts to make a world !!!

      @youbetyourwrasse If you want lively, then I think you'll be very happy with this. You can add eyes to it and have your perfect kite. Have fun!

      @TheKRU251 The Bora is certainly a better-flying kite, but the Sinewave can be fun for those who enjoy its movement, don't mind the graphics, and are able to overlook its faults (including the truly horrible handle, which needs to be replaced before trying to fly the kite).

    The ITW Pan Flute gets my vote! But great to see a variety of similar kites in the air at the same time. Nice one Jim

      I've owned the Pan Flute for a long time, but I rarely flew it until I discovered just how good it is, not just in the light winds I'd flown it in, but in very strong wind as well. It's a great pity that, like most of Into The Wind's previously great range of kites, it's no longer in production. Maybe it will return sometime.

      I wish UA-cam's audio library had more good music like that, but unfortunately it's a rare jewel among the pile of trash that they offer. Finding copyright-free music of a reasonable standard is one of the hardest aspects of making videos.

    The sinewave looks like a "jumping bean" all over the place. Got great news. Glenn & Cherie are making plans to attend WSIKF (kite festival) here in August. They were here 5 years ago. (you will get to see more videos from a different angle of the WSIKF)

    • @JimNicholls

      That's great that Glenn and Cherie will be there, with their video camera of course as well as adding to the displays. I have known them for a long time, without ever having the pleasure of meeting them, and I have a spinning item that Cherie made for me a few years ago. I'll look forward to seeing their reports from your festival.

    Thank you for sharing Jim....so what in your opinion is a better all around tail for a kite...just curious.

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  3 місяці тому

      Any tail can be good when used as decoration, but to stabilize a kite it's hard to beat a good fuzzy tail, which can work wonders in curing an unsteady kite.

  • @cyntil4362
    @cyntil4362 3 місяці тому

    Interesting to see them all together...thank you for this video...as noted, the constant wiggling would be a bit nerve wracking for myself..is it going to crash?.. is it heading to tangle another kite?..
    But some people probably like it's lively flying...
    I guess in a way it's more interactive..

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  3 місяці тому +1

      It's good to have the choice, Cynti, but it's not really to my taste. The ITW Parafoil 5 that I showed used to annoy me greatly when I first got it. With the supplied ribbon tails its rocking motion was as bad as that on the Sinewave. Fortunately the fuzzy tail was a partial cure for that, but when I tried one on the Sinewave it seemed to make very little difference.

  • @deweygravesjr.122

    Nice video Jim. That Sinewave is a tail tester. All great looking kitds. Would any tail calm it down? Thanks Jim!

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  3 місяці тому

      Well, Dewey, I usually say that a fuzzy tail will cure almost any badly-behaved kite, but I tried one on the Sinewave in the previous video and it made almost no difference, so I guess it's incurably lively.

  • @ianriches5545
    @ianriches5545 3 місяці тому +1

    I think the tail on that sinewave let's it down slightly as it doesn't wobble in a very satisfying way. As if it's too lightweight. It would be better as a thin black tube tail like some of those other bigger tails you have where the black end flicks around in quite a nice way.

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  3 місяці тому

      Yes, it's a very light tail, Ian, and I think as you do that it could be better. Unlike some of Prism's kites, the tail on this is removable, so you can fit whatever you want, but of course that involves additional expense. So does transferring the line to a usable reel or handle instead of the horrible one that it comes with.

  • @PanyingPilot

      Eye do-knot. Pleeze inform. Do they ATTACK?

    • @PanyingPilot
      @PanyingPilot 3 місяці тому +1

      @@youbetyourwrasse Yes, they attack and the kite line will sever the line that big kites fly on. Also, if a small poorly behaved kite tangles with a big one. Then bossy kids or mothers want the big kite pulled down so the child may have their poorly behaved kite back. Entitlement, Grrr!

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  3 місяці тому +2

      @PanyingPilot I certainly wouldn't be flying it near any of the bigger kites, Glenn, that's for sure. It, and the other small parafoils, are strictly for high-wind days when the other kites are lleft in their bags.

    • @youbetyourwrasse
      @youbetyourwrasse 3 місяці тому

      A pair of scissors to deal with the impertinent kite? Just to see the LOOKS on those bossy faces? Heheeheh :D

    • @PanyingPilot
      @PanyingPilot 3 місяці тому +1

      @@JimNicholls Jim, clearly that is the best practice. We have surely seen incidents where poorly behaved kites in inexperienced hands have led to unhappy results. Tangled kites are trouble enough, but line cutting by friction is something else again. I recall an incident at Berkeley where a young woman flew her box kite into my Killip and severed one of the tail attachment loops. Other than being aggravated about it, I marvelled at how fast she ran away with her kite in tow. A rabbit, she was.
