- Richmond FC features in this fantastic 1999 AFL video. The Richmond FC history as told by Kevin Bartlett, Jack Dyer, Tom Hafey and a cast of football's greats. From the sleeve:
"Royce Hart, Ian Stewart, and Roy Wright. The names conjure up visions of perfection... Do they come tougher than "Captain Blood" Jack Dyer, Max Oppy or Kevin Sheedy? Or more Tigerish than Kevin Bartlett, Billy Barrot and Roger Dean?
This is the video story of Richmond, one of football's proudest and oldest clubs. A team with working class roots that rallied to the chant of "eat 'em alive" in the 20s and 30's and were re-born as anew band of Tigers under Tommy Hafey in the mid-sixties.
The players, coaches, administrators tell the story. The Stewart-Barrot swap, the Windy Hill brawl, the Pitura affair. Premierships and wooden spoons. The glory of victory and the agony that comes with internal feuding and sacked coaches. It's all here in 'Fighting Fury.'"
1966 to 1982 was the greatest era of Richmond’s history. Tom Hafey won 171 of his 256 games as senior coach. Players like Royce Hart, Francis Bourke, Kevin Bartlett, Kevin Sheedy amongst others would go down as the greatest players of their generation. Nine preliminary finals, seven grand finals and five premierships (1967, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1980)
Costa thank you for the upload! The 1998 version is so good and it tops it off how the TAC/Richmond ad and the Kevin Bartlett windy hill joke was left in the video. Thank you mate I know you're a Geelong man but you've made a Tigers fans day. Revisiting his childhood ^_^
Glad you enjoyed it mate. It's a ripping watch for any footy lover. BTW, I'm not a Cats man. It's worse than that!
Costa Sports Does that mean Collingwood?
Carlton, isn't it?
Yup.
I think the 1999 version of this is rarer than the 2003 version, but nobody has yet to put up the 2003 version which would be intriguing to watch.
I never tire of KB impersonating Jack Dyer.
Have you got the 2003 version. I have it on DVD.
Go Tigers!! EA(Eat'em Alive)!!
@ 27:35 This is wrong: Richmond won in Oppy's last game (vs Collingwood at Punt Road) by 53 points. afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1954/041419540828.html
Sheeds spent a lot of time outside of the back pocket.
the battle of windy hill, the big fight a cop sheperds out a little kid and walks back into the fight
Do you have season that was 2000?
I thought the VFL was suspended during the war years.
1:40:49 I don't believe it!
