- The music piece "Christos Anesti (Resurrection)" performed by Vangelis and sung by actress Irene Papas. Released as part of the 1986 Vangelis CD "Rapsodies". Music & lyrics based on the greek-orthodox easter hymn "Christos Anesti" ("Christ is risen").

Every time I hear the instrumental part, when that gong plays the second time as the chord changes, I feel my body rise upwards, then the third time, it's as if it soars upword so fast as if nothing can hold it down. This is what I hope to feel when we go to meet Christ in the clouds at His return.

There's no other hymn as powerful and timeless as this one, and I love Sandy Patty sing "I've Just Seen Jesus!". When I became Orthodox Christian, I knew my life wouldn't ever be the same; I just didn't know how much Jesus would help me change. He has changed me with His Divine love, and he burns away all my sins! I hope I never lose my salvation, because He keeps His promises.

All over orthodox world this beautifull hymn (or as we call it troparion) is sung for Ressurection of Christ (= Messiah in greek). But Vangelis is such a great musician, and this interpretation of otherwise known troparion is realy remarkable. CHRIS IS RISEN, brethren in Christ our Lord!

A small Christian fellowship in the suburb of Papatoetoe in Auckland[Papatoetoe Christian Fellowship-I think there is a mention on the Web] and also occasionally at Ayia Triatha [Holy Trinity ] Greek Orthodox Church at Western Springs ,Auckland .New Zealand Definitely on the Web.] - Father Paul Patitsas [Also on the Web].

That's wonderful, live in Massachusetts and I'm Greek because my father was full Greek but my mom is Lebanese. I actually go to two churches as well. I go to the St Elizabeth cuz I was actually babtized Roman Catholic but i'm attached to the Greek Orthodox Church St George's cuz my dad and I along with my twin always went there for Greek Easter to bring home the holy flame on Greek Easter and other occasions like the glendi and also to warship. I keep the tradition of the Easter dinner, cooking the new year spanikopita. I'm curious as to what kiwi is. It sounds Hawaiian.

I suggest you GOOGLE:- Kiwi. The Kiwi bird is the symbol of New Zealand. It is a small flightless bird[must have flown -Aeons ago]. It is on our $1.00 coin . Therefore New Zealanders are called Kiwi's .
When I visited the USA[L.A. and Boston back in 2006 ??? or was it 2007???] ...the American folks only knew ... Kiwis... to be a fruit... what we in New Zealand call:- "Kiwifruit" .
My wife makes spanakopita for me plus -Moussaka... !!! although at the moment it would have to be vegetarian Moussaka... as I have not eaten anything with a face on it for several months [a la the lead actor on :- ... "What you don't eat meat...I will make you...laaamb..." LOL...!!!! ].
PASCHA is coming soon... so look forward to hearing ... again...!!!
I have attempted to join the Psalters on occasion at AYIA TRIATHA [=Holy Trinity]...it is hard work standing
up for the entire service [there are fold down seats for the Psalters -but I leave that for the older folks to use-plus my ears start to pop after a while -and although I can read Greek -I struggle while I am chanting
to try to figure out the old Church [KOINE] Greek. The head Psalter gives me the English parts to read/chant .
AYIA TRIATHA - is a Bi-lingual Church as far as the liturgy is concerned. It is easier that way as we have not only Greeks but converted Anglo-Kiwis...plus many different Slavic people...i.e. Russians , Serbs , Bulgarians , some Cops ,many Ethiopians , Arabs , Christian Lebanese[i.e. of Phoenician descent] and other coteries .
There is a book for the Liturgy that has Greek written with Greek letters , Greek written in English letters and an English translation in three parallel columns but I still get lost with it as during different Saints days things are added or omitted . It would be nice if there was a drop down screen in the front of the church so that the three columns could be projected at the correct speed and sequence -maybe one of the wealthier .
Talking about your background -we have an Old Lebanese lady[Olga] at Ayia Triatha who is married to an Old Greek gentleman[Stephanos] and they had a married daughter called Marianne .
My background is Greek and Armenian . I only speak Greek with some Arabic [I was born in Alexandria , Egypt] plus some greeting words in Armenian that I taught myself .
I am on holiday from my work as an orderly at a local hospital here [Auckland City hospital]. I work night shift in our Adult Emergency Department[AED]-very busy most nights. Sometimes I get an opportunity to share my faith with folks -at times the nurses ask me to bless a room where someone has passed away .
I am growing back my beard at the moment . I had shaved my beard off several years back as my youngest daughter asked me to shave it off for her wedding -I did but kept my moustache .[I have three adult children
Sarah married to David Warfield- giving me my two granddaughters -Victoria[6] and Sally-Ann[2] who was born on my birthday . Lisa who is married to Stuart Dalziell [no kids yet....aaah !!!!] and my son Michael ,
not married yet.....aaah....and aaah ...again...!!!!! We are praying that a nice girl will come...[ a tall girl please LORD...!!! ... as Michael is tall...dark and handsome...are you married ...Amanda...are you tall...???...hah ,hah, haah...!!! Typical Greek dad ...eh...??? ]...!!!!

Surrender your life to Him... to be born from above...St John chapter 3 verse 3,7 &16. The English here talks of being born -again but the KOINE... Greek says ...born from above ...but the transliterated term -born-again -conveys the meaning of the original Greek nevertheless .

This video's so solemn. I thought that we were to be happy because Christ gave up his life for us. Though it is rather sad, thinking about what they did to Christ, like casting lots for and selling his clothing/garments. I'm not sure that Christ's dieing helped this world as a whole, but I do know that his dieing helped many others turn their lives for the better. I think the resurrection song is meant to be sung more happily. It's a time for celebration.
