I was a "Michelle fan" back in the day- but if anyone TRULY loves the sport, they know that the person who has the best skate on that day wins. It's not 'personal'... it's the process. I love Tara and Johnny's commentating, and how fun Tara is to watch.

And of course, Michelle's 98 LP is a great piece of art in the figure skating history. ❤❤❤

I think this is a reminder of how carried away the public can get with rivalries and the fan wars. It's often the case that the people who fans are fighting over are often more fond of and connected to each other than the public realizes.

@@kristinstrickland1038 That's not true. I remember very vividly Frank Carroll commenting on the fact that Michelle always liked Tara and that they got along well even when touring together. They were competitive for sure but I wouldn't go as far as saying they were fierce rivals.

Michelle is busy as a US Ambassador. She doesn't have time to help Tara pay her rent.

@@Kevin-s5nhehe snarky but true. But props to Tara for giving Michelle her due. Kwan is one of a kind. We don't hate Tara. It did hurt to see Michelles shot at the goldseized by Tara fairly or not. But there's no doubt that Michelle is one of a kind when it comes to heart and soul.

I was 15 years old in 1998, and felt so torn heading into Nagano! I loved Michelle so much, but adored Tara (I started in artistic roller skating too!). I wanted both to win, which of course wasn't a possibility. I knew I would be heartbroken no matter the outcome.
I've never met you Tara, but was fortunate to meet Michelle a few years ago and she was just LOVELY. Knowing you two are able to connect this far out, is just wonderful to hear. :)

I have always adored Tara. I still remember after winning the gold in the 1998 Olympics, Tara appeared on the Oprah show. Oprah asked what she wanted (as a reward) and Tara said a Chevrolet. Oprah was like, what... you've just won a gold medal at the Olympics, you don't need a Chevy, you need a Porsche. Oprah was funny and Tara was adorable. 🥰

It's wonderful that they've reconnected. I'm sure it must have been emotional for both of them. There were so many great memories from that period of time in figure skating. Sad that there will always be that stigma of Tara stealing Michelle's Olympic gold. Tara deserved to win, but everyone felt that it was Michelle's moment to win that Olympic year and that Tara's time was still to come. I'm sure there's no grudge between them personally. But it was undeniably one of the greatest upsets in Olympic figure skating history.

I don't know why anyone would say Tara "stole" the gold medal. An Olympic panel of judges (6 out of 9) awarded her the gold medal. It's just weird - Tara didn't make a grab for it and skate away into the night.

But the judges made a mistake. 😊

Actually, an Olympics panel of judges ( 12 out of 18 ) awarded Michelle's LP and SP the gold medal. 😊😊😊

What on earth is Tara speaking about ? What did Michelle give her advice about ??

I assume Tara's difficulty with having a child. I haven't been able to hear Tara like this before and it is wonderful. Honestly I can't barely take anything from the NBC figure broadcasts seriously. I'm not trying to be mean to Johnny but he is just cracking jokes the entire so you don't get to hear Tara speak seriously about anything in that format. I'll have to listen to her podcast now. So glad Michelle and her were able to reconnect like that.

It's just a short clip of an episode of Tara's (and her husband's) podcast about infertility struggles.
