Saving mother & baby turtles after car strikes

- Zachary and Selva were on an evening stroll when they came across a painted turtle in a roadside ditch. Looking closer, they noticed she had a deep crack along the back of her shell. The poor reptile had been hit by a car. The couple couldn't leave her in such a state, so they brought the injured turtle home and sought help.
During the spring and summer months, turtles are struck by cars as they attempt to cross busy roads, and many are females trying to reach their nesting spots to lay eggs. Tragically, only the lucky ones who are injured and found - like this painted turtle, along with a poor snapping turtle recently admitted - receive the emergency care needed to repair their fractured shells.
