It’s nice to hear someone talking about the grey area that not anyone really talks about.
    Thanks

4:07 My uncle is an intellectual property attorney and I can tell you that making any prop from any IP and selling it breaks copyright laws. Disney not might bother you about selling iron man helmets but if they wanted to, you are 100% on the losing side of that legal battle

True. The safest thing you can make and sell is your own model fron your own creation. I merely wanted to make this video as many ask about selling props and legal issues. Its a very hard topic to discuss safely as so many people sell props no issue while others get sued.

@@Chriss_Workshop Yup, plenty of people get away with it, just a matter of who they decide to go after and who they don't. Even if X person doesn't get sued, they are still breaking copyright law

I don't really get or understand how some artists think they have a right to model copywritten material such as a Star Wars helmet and sell it. Then tell me as a person who is spending my time and money to print the helmet that I cant sell it??? It makes no sense. I think they have a lot of nerve to tell people what they can and cant do when they themselves are stealing.

So as long as you modelled your object totally from scratch with your own original ideas, you might be OK. Other great vid.
    cheers from Australia 🍻

Just because you were "busted" doesnt mean its wrong. if you go to etsy.com for instance, there are loads of works of licensed and trademarked materials. The issue at times is simply how you label it. for example, if I were to sell an Iron man helmet. I wouldnt title it as officially licensed. I would sell it as a fan art interpretation. Reading through your comments, I'm not sure how you got in trouble selling a print. We can speak via DM on my instagram if you would like. However please dont scare people out of trying to sell prints as many people have done it for years with no issue.

I feel we will just have to agree to disagree. I do not promote piracy. However I do believe, and have seen, the fair use of people creating 3d models of licensed works and selling them

For the most part. But at times you may find a model you bought where they may say no. I've worked out contracts with people like that so if i sell a print of their file, i also pay them a percentage
