People make fun of Leorio for his lack of fighting ability and yet Togashi intentionally made Leorio the heart of the entire series AKA the one hero who isn't a vengeful murderous psychopath (looking at you Gon, Killua, Kurapika, etc.)
I love him but did people forget that he was about to murder an old lady because she asked him a confusing question ? He is not really all that kind hearted . maybe more than the others yes but he is not that pure
Also the others are not psychopaths ( maybe gon yes ) but killua and kurapika have their reasons . Leorio having the best goal doesn't make them evil

Something important to remember is how much the 2011 adaptation butchered Leorio's achievements for no clear reason. In the manga, he is able to open the first gate of the Zoldyck mansion alone, in the anime all three have to join forces to open it. Leorio did not replace Gon in arm wrestling during in the anime. Leorio's Ten was not shown during the Yorknew City arc of the anime. Ten that he learned alone though self-discovery and discipline. He was literally nerfed so he could be more of a pathetic comic relief

I always thought Leorio would become a "nen doctor" he wanted to be a doctor because he lost a friend, he nearly lost Gon to nen, i think at some point he will be able to exorcise nen curses and maybe develop a nen beast with functions similar to those of Doctor Blythe
I think it'll be interesting if Leorio was the one that cured Gon, or at least stabilize him. Then Ari could have came in with the the "full cure". This could have shown that he actually progressed as a doctor but that their's still room to grow because he couldn't save his friend completely and maybe if he did Gon would be able to keep his nen.
@@Walt_Chocolate the possibilities are still there, Kurapika has that chain of judgment in his heart Leorio might be the one to save him if he ever breaks his vow (i think this will happen eventually), Leorio also might be the one to get Gon's nen ability restored.

I have a theory on the potiental leorio will have in hxh. I think he will shine in the supportive role for the main cast, each of them have a rpg element to them. While he will be able to still fight, his overall hatsu will be focused on support. In terms on how he can outshine the other 3 in terms of nen I thought him being the best at en and having the highest amount of aura would make him great. The aura amount would be around morel level or even more.
I thought of two hatsu for him to fit this role. The first one is playing on the aura amount and is a combat/support ability that relays on others to use. The main purpose of it would be gambling the amount of aura between teams in a set of games. The games would be focused on what the four main characters are best at, for example kurapika with his ntelligence and killua with combat. The games will have a pot like in poker were each member will wager a set limited amount of aura. The winner of that game gets the aura. The whole purpose is to lower the amount of aura of the enemy and increase the amount for allies.
His last ability will be based off nen exorcism and be his stand out. With only 10 nen users being able to lift post nen I think this is a good ability to make him stand out from the other 3. The idea I have is like a nen vaccine for curses, it would work the same as a normal nen exorcise ability but with a wheel that would determine the risk of the curse being lifted. Lower normals positive and higher numbers negative. Negative numbers make it worse and positive better. My idea is that the vaccine is created that lifts the curse and can be used again if the curse has been placed on someone else.
Leorio was capable of running 80km and pushing open up the 2nd door of the Testing Gate, weighing 8 tons, whereas Gon and Kurapika could only open the 1st door, making him the physically strongest member of the trio when they went to Kukuroo Mountain.
Yet he is still the most normal of all the protagonists.

Places a mark upon another person (not the user) by their informed consent. This mark can be moved to anywhere on the receiver's body, under the condition that any attempt to hide it will only make it more visible. The receiver must also provide informed consent. Meaning that they must fully understand Faustian Bargain, and consent to it, before it can be applied to them. Having the mark grants a 10% increase to all stats. Nen efficiency, physical strength, speed of thought, etc. Anything the receiver can do, they can do 10% better. In exchange, they must pay 2 monthly fees. The first is applied at the moment of Faustian Bargain's activation, and dictates that the receiver must obey any one order from the caster, so long as the caster isn't "wishing for more wishes." The second starts from the second month onward, and dictates that the receiver must give 1 day of their lifespan to the caster every 30 days. This is taken automatically at every 30 day mark. Faustian Bargain cannot be canceled once it's active. It must run out the agreed amount of time set at its casting. For example, if the caster and the receiver agree to 2 months, then even with both parties consent, the mark cannot be removed after 1. The caster can have an infinite number of marks active at once, but only 1 per person. If there are 2 casters of Faustian Bargain around, then a receiver can receive a second mark at the exact same cost as the first. So following 2 orders and giving 2 days every 30 days.
Honestly, I've been theory crafting this one for a while, and I'm not even sure if emission is needed, but I don't know how else I would keep the enhancement effect on somebody, or receive their life force, over an infinite distance. The main principle is that I'm not offering very much in exchange for stealing your life force and mind controlling you. This makes the activation condition extraordinarily difficult. Which allows the hatsu to be much stronger, and lets it give that 10% increase. Though it may seem bad at first, this is actually a support ability for another one I crafted.

well gons story is basically done but i do feel bad that leorio has such a hard time getting back into importance(even usopp and krillin managed to give a good reminder of why they're still alive and important in some way.)cause i liked his moments in the beginning and nearly cried when he and gon hugged after meeting again(bums the hell out of me with kurapika likely going to die, gon all the way back on the mainland with no real way of helping, and killua adventuring around the world with alluka that the very early parts of the series are the last we've seen of them together especially since i feel in some arcs they couldve had some impact being together like the chimera ant arc.)

Remember how gaunt Leorio look on his first apparition in the manga? Dude looked straight up mafia. I think the speed at which Togashi made me like him with the little running explanation of why he wants to become a doctor was insane, never felt for a character with so little backstory before
Fr he only mentioned that his friend died and that's all. It would've been nice to see how his friend looked like and being given a name and even get to see the awful conditions leorio lived in. Also he never mentioned his parents in any way. The neglect for this character is just sad
I hadn’t seriously thought of Leorio’s potential role in the dark continent, or even his motivation. It would really tie up his story well if he got what he wanted out of the trip to accomplish his goals.
Regardless, throughout the story Leorio’s been like the salt you put on eggs: sprinkled sparingly, yet ever so welcome in terms of what he added to stories.

i put pepper on my eggs personally but i understand what you mean. kinda somewhat similar in role to usopp, krillin ,or part 3 joseph as the pragmatic but caring one of the group.
I usually put such an unhealthy amount of salt on the eggs that people next to me tell me to stop it, because eating so much salt is unhealthy
nah leorio is like peanut butter, Its great in tandem with other things and can be used sparingly when needed. But ill happily just eat a spoonful of the stuff, I love it that much
leorio reuniting with gon literally had me crying. the amazingness of the election arc never would have been possible if leorio had been in the previous two arcs. So, i'm not complaining about the very realistic direction that his character path has taken.

I looove the idea of not forcing characters into spots they don't belong. The characters were used to flesh out the world we're following. Hell, we've gotten to a point where we're seeing an awesome arc without Gon or Killua.
I mean you could create stories around a character too, so it doesn't look forced.
10:15 It was established when Nen was introduced that one of the most important aspects of it isn't outright power but how it can be creatively applied. So even if Leorio was the weakest person on the dark continent Nen wise, he could still have a realistic chance of surviving there if he acts intelligently.

To a point. But there still is a clear set of power levels. Netero was way more creative about his application of Nen, but it still didn’t allow him to do any significant damage on Meruem.

Deadpool True, I’m mostly responding to the statement about Nen not being about power levels. We heard Morel state how a nen fight has nothing to do with strength and nen reserves, and well that turned out to be kind of bogus. Not saying that it is a one for one, but I think that Neteros statement about it strictly being about survival may also be somewhat overblown. There is something to be said about the people we hear about returning from the dark continent all being incredibly powerful. Also from what we have seen Leorio has a lower intelligence than most of those who are also stronger than him on the expedition. I love Leorio, but I genuinely have a difficult time believing that he would take the role of primary protagonist. I think he functions best in a support role, and I’m not saying that based off of his strength alone.
I feel Leorio is going to be the main protagonist of the Dark Continent. That is...if we ever reack the DC

I could see the story pushing Leorio to try and obtain Nitro Rice for Kurapika, after Kurapika exhausts everything to survive the succession war, obtain the last remaining eyes, & possibly confronting some spiders.
Leorio kind of reminds me of Iida from MHA: heavily advertised as one of the main group of heroes early on, but quickly reduced to the background as the story moves on.

Crack Theory: What if Leorio, being a Medic and a Hunter who knows nen now, would become the Main trainer of Gon with Killua, making him somewhat of a mentor figure and helping Gon get his nen back and also setting his morals right again.

Also as a doctor he will cure Gon’s fucked up nen potential and disabilities using the power of PHD, science, and his nen powers.
Furthermore, if Kurapika gets fucked up by the Phantom Troupe, he can fullfill his dream of saving a friend.
Ultimate crack theory: Leorio unexpectedly kills Hisoka since Hisoka saw “potential” in Leorio.
Hisoka desperately wants to fight Chrollo and ends up killing Kurapika so he doesn’t get in the way or because Pika kills him first.
Kurapika dies or gets healed by Leorio who destroys Hisoka by dispelling the bungee gum nen that revives his heart.
Hisoka dies realizing it was Leorio and ironically regrets his greed for fighting lead to being denied an ultimate fight to the death.

Honestly my favorite scene in the show is Gon and Leorio’s reunion during the election. It’s just too pure and that arc made me appreciate Leorio even more and I wish he was involved in the story more

How could you forget the 6th protagonist, the Like button. Without it people wouldn't be able to show their appreciation for this channel along with making it a little easier for others to find the channel.
When we first learned of nen I was really hoping Leorio would become a super saiyan doctor that could super heal himself. But nope instead he gets dragged into the background. He was my favorite character for the first 2 arcs
He's my favorite character (not just for the memes) but I'm actually really happy with his role in the series. I love that he just followed his will to help others rather than get mixed up in Shounen funtimes, and anytime he returned in the series it was always great. He felt like a grounding to the real world amongst a bunch of characters who defied physical and mental logic, and his nen revelation against Ging is legitimately my favorite moment in the entire series. It's largely done for comedy but the fact that he almost won the election really showed how while he was pretty much a normal dude he had qualities that were every bit as important as the wacky abilities of everyone else in the association.
The fact Cheadle and Leorio aren't in the Succession Arc doing autopsies and helping in the investigations always confused me.
They aren't aware of it. The succession war is a secret ritual hidden to those that aren't involved.

Personally I always imagined Gyro having went off to the DC and Welfin went out to look for him possibly bringing both of them back into the story making Gyro the "final antagonist" and Welfin being the pivotal character only this time he has to choose between helping those who he helped before or helping the one person he admired the most in life. I do like the idea of having the final arc be set in Meteor city though and we have Gyro,Welfin,Gon,Kil,Leo,Kura, and the troupe along with Hisoka but I heavily doubt the story will ever go past the DC arc atleast not anytime soon at all.

The reason why everyone likes Kuwabara isn’t just because he’s a brave lovable knucklehead, he’s impressive because he’s a good man. Also, “We’re going to use your skull as an urn for Urameshi’s ashes,” is a metal af threat.
Togashi make Leorio the character most people can relate for, where as kiripika is the most ideally fictional generic character that served nothing but to be a slave by its own motivation to capture all the spiders. I dont get it why people would be pining for this turd who could go off any second. He should be seeing therapist or being restrain in mental facility. Too bad hitting those heavy books make he think that he knew everything despite being devoid of basic common sense like what he displayed during the leorio interaction with him. He's the mariest of the sues.

Forget my broken english but I want to say something : I kind of admire you. You're sticking with this unique story, helping us to fill the blanks throughout on own imagination, and so the characters are alive and everything is moving and possible. This is hope and it's beautiful in regards of that inspiring world and narrative, within all the wait, all this time anticipating what (almost) never happen. HxH may never end but that's ok. I have the feeling that we deserve Togashi as well as Togashi deserve us. This has so much potential but maybe we have to realise that the best of it is already in our head, like what you're doing on this channel with your unbreakable passion. I don't know exaclty why but it matters to me. Thank you for all the videos and all the dedication. You have a friend in me, waiting along side for the next to come. And if not, I'm good here.

I just finished the anime this morning and the lack of Leorio after the early arch's are the only nitpick I have on the series. I'm glad he got to have on of the best moments of the series in the final arc.

Nothing, I think it's great that he's mainly just becoming a doctor. It's one of the things I really like about HxH, characters don't have to be bound together for the sake of writing convenience, only when it makes sense. We're following a huge cast of people who are extraordinary in comparison to their world, it makes sense they're usually off doing their own shit. Also it should've been pretty obvious by the time that Killua became the main character narrative-wise on more occasions than Gon that HxH isn't a show which cares about conventions for "protagonists".
More importantly though, rest in peace Keiji Fujiwara. I'm gonna have a damn hard time seeing anyone else as Leorio.

The story should've had him meet a nen user in medical school and learn nen from that person before the York city arc. That way he could heal traditionally or with nen. He could've had a healing/combat/stitching power like Urahara in Bleach.
I love Leorio and I have high Hope's that togashi has something good for him eventually. Hes a great artist amd he has his reasons to put him in the main 4 for a reason and hes always there for kurapika too mainly. They are really close with each other and I know if something had happens to kurapika we gonna see something suprisimg coming out of leorio. I love the man and hope so much for him. He may not be the strongest now but I think hes gonna be one of those that develop really really slow and become something huge. It has to be a good reason too for hisoka to keep him alive too when he said the fruit has to ripe.
I’d also watch a gungi based anime with Komugi as the main character.

I remember they made jokes to this effect early on but I always felt like Leorio was the 'Old man' character in a JRPG. He drops pearls of wisdom from time to time but mostly fades to the background because Japan seems to have something against older protagonists like everyone is going to clearly identify more strongly with a 12 year old who can kill a God. I feel like in an alternate universe Leorio could easily carry a show on his own but like you said he is pretty much a square peg trying to fit in a round hole at this point and will probably never get the spotlight again.
Your comment reminds me of the series "Master Keaton." It's a series that successfully pulls off the "old man" protagonist. And I can see parallels between Leorio's and Keaton's characters like how they're the "wise old man" type that have humble ambitions despite their environments/backgrounds. That is, Leorio wanting to be an ordinary doctor in the extraordinary world of HxH and Keaton wanting to be peaceful archaeologist/professor despite his chaotic special forces background. It's like their drives almost force them to be background characters, but "Master Keaton" forces Keaton to live in a world that's constantly in conflict with his desire. Thus, in a way, "Master Keaton" is almost the story of Keaton versus the world (maybe).
Agreed. I'm sure if HxH was an american comic, Leorio would be more relevant. That is especially if the story was aimed towards adults, since they are more likely to relate to his simple life style and living with the pain he suffered in the past.

I kinda wonder what it would have been like if Leorio was in the Greed Island arc. His knowledge on scamming and grifting and such, as well as the concept of a world where people shouldn't have been able to severely hurt eachother but skirted the rules with NEN, I think he would have had some interesting insight and fun moments as the strategy arm of the team.
Every single chapter release I hope Togashi gives even a single glimpse of focus on Leorio.

Leorio's use on dark continent will be a retriever, aside from being a medical practioner his nen ability is good for long distance aquisition of many items on a safe distance. Hence he will develop very well as a remote doctor who doesn't need to be on your side to treat your injuries unlike pitou with komugi.
And of course, he will use a portal to treat long distance operation thru his brief case
I feel like Leorio's potential as an emitter and a doctor could've made him a classic support role/healer member. He was never going to be the combatant the other 3 were but he ostensibly had more altruistic goals that could've come up in his Nen training.
I think leorio can absolutely become a big part of the story again. I feel like the succession and dark continent arc is gonna be more kurapika and leorio centered just like Greed Island and the Chimera Ant arc was for Gon and Killua.
He can be taught nen on the black whale with the other soilders by kurapika or maybe another zodiac? And when they make it to the Dark Continent it can be an ideal place for him to grow nen wise. Even if he doesnt i can see that his medicsl background can be a major asset. Wouldnt it be crazy if leorio made it to the dark continent, found Don Freecs.... and then punched him in the face too lol.
And Ging and Leorio may have an interesting dynamic if they end up having to work together when they land. Sometimes i feel like thos story isnt even like 15% done.
I feel like Leorio should've had a chance encounter with Machi outside of the Yorknew City arc, seeing her nen-stitches at work might've inspired him to similarly create his own Hatsu with medical applications.

Leorio is really a sort of odd ball of the original group...in that he's the least odd.
Honestly I think it'd be interesting but also very disappointing to see the original group reform, disappointing as in it'd probably be very somber with how Leorio was the heart of the group...and yet he was the one who truly sort of left the group completely. Imagine how things would go down if he was there during Kurapika's path of revenge or Gon's spiralling over Kite or literally anything involving Killua.
I can see them coming together and Leorio feeling somewhat defeated. He wanted to become rich and a doctor because he couldn't help or be there for his friend, and in that pursuit he was pulled away from the new friends he made and possibly feels like he failed them too when they might've needed him most.
Not as a fighter, or as a doctor, but as a friend.
Honestly I haven't seen beyond greed island in much detail, but this is what it seems like would happen if Leorio became a focus again. Because while he's the oldest, he's also easily the least jaded and most good-natured. It can be easy to forget that Killua, Gon and Kurapika are all technically still kids dealing with everything that they do, so it would make some level of sense if Leorio felt like he should've been responsible for at least trying to help them.
4:33 is nobody going to talk about the fact that Leorio is breaking the 4th wall there, by holding on to a normally intangible split screen line/wall and looking directly into the "camera"

I think Leorio could be used for an interesting arc. It doesn't need to be combat-focused, they could make it about his resolve to heal people and the struggles he would encounter.
Leorio's motivation is the antithisis of Jairo.

You’ve done your research and it’s shows. I like to think of Leorio a healer in a RPG. He’s there for défense and is rarely supposed to engage in actual combat. Also, I really love the 1999 version because we get a profound insight as to why Leorio is the way he is. It’s touched upon briefly in the 2011, but in my opinion, 2011 HxH did Leorio dirty in favour of advancing the plot so that they could create a more complete anime than 1999. We see the same for the story of kite and Gon which is kind of rushed through. This for me, emotionally impacted how I felt about Gon killing Pitou. Even with everything considered, I still enjoy HxH very much and Leorio remains my favourite character. What can I say, his stupidity is charming.
Does anyone remember that one part in the manga (the dark continent arc) where Ging uses Leorio’s nen ability (because Ging’s able to copy other people’s power) and Ging says that Leorio must of learnt that nen ability while studying medicine. I feel as this is important because it shows how Leorio is seriously dedicated to wanting to be a doctor that it even shows in his nen

I always cheer up when I see leorio! I've been reading the succession War (im almost done with it. It hurts too much to wait).
I'm not entirely caught up yet but I think the focus will be put back on Leorio through the Zodiac & Beyond Netero escaping. As interesting as it'd be, I can't see Ging being the main protagonist. Mizaistom, Cheadle, and Leorio would make the most sense and setup Ging and Beyond as "antagonists" or the hunt. Work it back around to finding Ging.
That said, I can't ever see us reaching the dark continent. Not due to hiatus x hiatus, rather due to the fact that it kinda breaks the myth setup. Not that it can't be done, it'd just be really really hard. We've got a few illustrations here & there, but nothing set in stone so everyone has their own idea of what the dark continent is. It's currently this abstract idea in HxH. It might end up being too little too late or too jarring or too vast.
Man.. your videos about the series have awoken my memories and passion towards the series again and reminded me of how phenomenal Hunter is.. maybe, just maybe togashi will complete this masterpiece and I hope he will return to it soon.. thank you for your wonderful channel my friend ❣
We saw wat pitou could do with some imagination. Leorio could definitely be a traveling battle medic. Town to town, healing people with nen and skill, helping save the town in the process, bumping into his old friends. Ya no. Come on.

Leorio was always my favorite character, and I’ve wanted him to have for more focus for a while, but he doesn't seem to have as much focus. Although that’s the case, I’m quite happy because I know Leorio has such a good chance to have really good character development in this arc, and whenever we get to the Dark Continent.
Leorio does have a cool ability that he shows way later in the series. If he trained really hard with that ability, it might become op to some extent. He wants to become a doctor and that skill would definitely come in handy.
Remember when Hisoka spared Leorio's life and helped him out in the hunter exam? Hisoka saw his potential way ahead of everyone and wanted to reserve him for future sexual gratification (along with Gon, Killua and Kurapika) :3
What if leorio ends up finding a way to bring back gon's nen?
I think how I would bring back Leorio into the main stage is by killing off Kurapika in a way that Leorio, had he trained more in nen, would have been able to save him. Seeing another one of his friends die in front of him (think back to his motivation to become a doctor) while he's still powerless to save him would refocus his aspirations to focus on nen. Making Kurapika die the same way his backstory friend did, curable disease with no access to the cure, would give rise to Leorio's signature hatsu; Something along the lines of a medicine box that has exactly the herb/remedy that Leorio could need in the situation. This could be seen as extremely powerful but considering Leorio is an Emitter, and Conjuration is furthest away from Emittion, he would have a severe penalty incured whenever he used it and possibly some downtime where he wouldn't be able to use it - a few days to a week. The death of Kurapika would also serve to change Leorio's character, losing his happy-go-lucky attitude for a more serious, reseved character who would hide his sadness from his friends.
I don't think Kurapika will die, rather, he will be on his death bed and Leorio would refuse to let him die. This would lead to an arc of Leorio in the DC searching for a way to save his friend, probably having to somehow circumvent past the Calamaties.
