  • In this short video, Jon Thelen explains when and why he uses the Follow a Contour feature on his Minn Kota trolling motor and Humminbird fish finder.
Jon employs this useful function of the One-Boat Network from Minn Kota and Humminbird to dial in the summer walleye bite by controlling his boat, hands-free! All you need is a Minn Kota trolling motor with i-Pilot Link, a compatible Humminbird fish finder, a Humminbird LakeMaster map card, and you too can control your boat with ease and put more fish in the livewell.

I like using follow the contour. The one improvement I would like to see would be to make getting in and out of it easier.
A lot of the lakes I fish are busy and I need to cancel and restart the function when avoiding on the water obstacles like other boats. Trying to do this, while trolling, and getting in and out of the function in a smooth manner is tough.

"The fish are sitting right on one of these contour lines cos that's a depth change"
"If I'm 2 feet that way or 2 feet that way I'm not catchen fish!"
1000ft left or right could still be the 22 foot zone ( You can see on his map scale 50ft either side is still the 22ft zone). He's making it sound like right at the 22 feet contour line, the lake bed is coming along at 21 feet and then right on the line there is a step down to 22 ft.

He should have picked a tighter contour for that example. He was in a pretty flat area like you pointed out

True. It's just pure commercial sale talk blabla.
