I finally finished it, and .... What in the revolutionized world were those final 5 episodes? The editing is all over the place and it changes almost 100 % from what came before. I did not understand what was happening, and the final few scenes having the characters move from place to place while sitting down didn't help. And Anthy trying to hurl herself out the window came literally out of nowhere. It suddenly just happens, with no foreshadowing of motive nor establishment of deed. She's just on a ledge out of nowhere, and I deeply hate the confusion all of this brings.

Utena is an anime that has a lot more symbolic than literal meaning, and if you understand what you’re looking at then there’s plenty of foreshadowing. However I understand that more abstract depictions can be confusing and not for everyone. It could always help to look up analysis’ of any particular scene you’re confused by. Sorry you weren’t a big fan of it :/

@@Blazinginsquids I tried to look it up, but for every character, and a lot of the scenes, there seems to be at least 3 different interpretations of their actions. I especially thought it weird that the fanbase were so focused on Anthy, when I don't remember her being near enough active in the plot to warrant this much speculation. I also read that Wakaba was important to the plot, and I'm just wondering what show these people have seen? I dunno, at least the comedy was off-the-wall in a way I liked. It reminded me of Ranma 1/2. I guess exploring gender was a big thing in Japan in the 90s, come to think of it.

@@TheDanishGuyReviews i definitely see where the frustration with the different interpretations comes, and even if that’s the charm of more abstract storytelling, it can be very annoying. I’m surprised you find Anthy to not warrant much speculation, given that the plot almost entirely revolves around her, but i do agree that Wakaba isn’t entirely important in the grand scheme. Overall it’s a story that needs a lot of thought and analysis from the audience and if a clear cut answer is what you’re looking for then a story like Utena isn’t going to be favorable in that end
