OMG! Am enjoying my memorial day with this music...High just like Bob Marley, am wishing every American a happy memorial day!...Ogene is really Ausuma's destiny bcos it brings my spirit back home. Any time that i hear this music and dont dance to it , then i must have kicked the bucket!. Missing home right about now. Ogene is life...
This same clave rhythm is played in all of the video I've listened to by these guys. I love this rhythm, but I don't know what it is called. It is similar to the Mozambique, which is 4/4, but this is in 3, or 6/8. What is it called?
Valentine Udoye Thank you so much for your reply, Valentine! I have been researching. I am learning about the Igbo history and how they descended from Gad (son of Abraham) and began from Eri's migration from the Israeli captivity in Egypt, and reading about the ogene bells, and was starting to think this could be called Igbo rhythm or Ogene rhythm. I am seeing a few styles of rhythm from Igbo, slightly different than the shekere/clave rhythm in these ogene akwa videos, but all with the ogene bells. This is a very infectious music, that translates well into western jazz/afro-cuban poly-rhythms. It is a good one to practice and have in my toolbox of rhythms!
Prince Okwute, point of serious correction, AUSUMA MALAIKA is from Umuegbe quarters, Umuokpu-village in Awka. My neighbour in the village, so l should know.
