    Very interesting alternative to the other NAS providers as you say. Not to mention the cost savings too! 😁

    Hi Brian
    yes would be interested in more on this
    as I am just a single user meaning it is just me unless the dog goes online when I am out
    This looks interesting to me
    I'm not a gamer but do photos/video streaming and music/storage as well as all the general stuff.
    and perhaps explain more about what some of the apps are as just seeing the name of an app tells me nothing really.
    maybe do a separate video on what some of the apps are for relating to the photos/video streaming and music/storage and playback of high-end audio WAV/FLAC, not the mp3, low-quality files
    thanks
    Colin

    It should be made clear that the clear case is a pre-production unit according to the website. There's a little astris that says that production models will be black and not clear. Those interested in the clear case should know this unless I've read something incorrectly.
    Edit: I misread, the notification was referring to the PCB color. The white PCB board is a prototype and the shipping model will have a black PCB. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

    I purchased one that will come in January of next year but I've never configured a server before, not sure how to "log into" it from another computer, etc, etc. Perhaps you could put together a series of these video's that talk about it, demonstrate it, etc, etc for us loyal followers? Appreciate it very much!!!

    I was thinking. I could place this board into a larger NAS enclosure with 6 drive bays. The NAS comes with power for the drives. The only thing that would be an issue is powering on the Zima blade at the same time as the drives.

    This looks promising. I've always wanted to build a NAS, but much larger than two drives. Is it possible to bung somekind of RAID card into the PCIE slot, to expand the two drive limit, to something closer to 10 or 20 drives??

    • @Britec09
      @Britec09  11 місяців тому +2

      I am pretty sure this zimablade would not run 20 hard drives, but you can add ZimaBoard SATA Card, 5 Port PCIe X4 Controller Card, SATA Controller Expansion Card to Support 5 SATA 3.0 Devices Support SSD and HDD

    • @vasilispapas482
      @vasilispapas482 11 місяців тому +1

      No ABSOLUTELY NO. These CPUs can NOT support any kind of RAID or ZFS volumes or external cards as they have only four PCI-e lanes Rev 2.0 avaliable to PCI-e connector.
      That means that they run ONLY SATA-2 speeds and NO SATA-3. Any card connected to PCI-e x 4 Lanes Rev 2.0 , reduces its performance by at least 50% !!!

    agreeing with others, very interesting product alternative to traditional NAS, being new to networking, can you run this as a NAS & media server concurrently?

  • @mwolfer1
    @mwolfer1 11 місяців тому +1

    I was about to comment that the ZimaBlade will give the off-lease mini business PCs used as cheap media clients (HP Elitedesk and the like) a run for their money, with a smaller form factor and better energy efficiency at comparable base price, but without built-in WiFi and memory not included it's not a competitive solution. Too bad. 😞

    • @Cyba_IT
      @Cyba_IT 11 місяців тому

      Should always have your NAS wired to the router anyway but yeah, it is a shame there's no dual-channel RAM.

    • @mwolfer1
      @mwolfer1 11 місяців тому +1

      @@Cyba_IT Note: I was talking about media CLIENTs, not NASs. And yes, a wired connection to a common switch for any kind of server configuration is recommended.
