Very interesting alternative to the other NAS providers as you say. Not to mention the cost savings too! 😁
Absolutely!
Thanks Bri. Nice presentation.
Not to sure about the swearing in the comments, lack of vocabulary comes to mind? The younger generation maybe watching this.
Its removed, hard to catch them all.
This looks interesting, I would really love to know more.
What do you want to see?
Hi Brian
yes would be interested in more on this
as I am just a single user meaning it is just me unless the dog goes online when I am out
This looks interesting to me
I'm not a gamer but do photos/video streaming and music/storage as well as all the general stuff.
and perhaps explain more about what some of the apps are as just seeing the name of an app tells me nothing really.
maybe do a separate video on what some of the apps are for relating to the photos/video streaming and music/storage and playback of high-end audio WAV/FLAC, not the mp3, low-quality files
thanks
Colin
I see what I can do
I’d like to see a full setup video for NextCloud on the ZimaBlade.
It should be made clear that the clear case is a pre-production unit according to the website. There's a little astris that says that production models will be black and not clear. Those interested in the clear case should know this unless I've read something incorrectly.
Edit: I misread, the notification was referring to the PCB color. The white PCB board is a prototype and the shipping model will have a black PCB. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
"There's a little astris ..." That's ASTERIX
I purchased one that will come in January of next year but I've never configured a server before, not sure how to "log into" it from another computer, etc, etc. Perhaps you could put together a series of these video's that talk about it, demonstrate it, etc, etc for us loyal followers? Appreciate it very much!!!
No Linux client?. Oh well. Another e-mail to a tech dept and another long wait. Pity as it looks really good!
Very nice! I would definitely like to know more. Thanks.
More to come!
Informative video, I like that you can build onto it, and make it your own, the way you want, very good sir, some of the most interesting videos on UA-cam, thank you!
Thank you very much!
In the beggining of the next year I plan to buy something like this for NAS and Media server 😁
I was thinking. I could place this board into a larger NAS enclosure with 6 drive bays. The NAS comes with power for the drives. The only thing that would be an issue is powering on the Zima blade at the same time as the drives.
Great YT & thank you!
Our pleasure!
Hello Brian. Coule you please provide the reference of the PCI-E card you plugged to extend your storage with M2 disks?
Yet another great vid thanks Brian. Seeing how to set up CasaOS on a NUC or older PC would be interesting. Cheers
Any chance you could do a video on how to set it up to be a website server?
the windows old folder is just where your old install is and old files and downloads etc if im correct
This could be just the thing. I am looking to update from my old NAS that seems to only play well with Plex every other time I use it.
Great demo, thanks!
This looks promising. I've always wanted to build a NAS, but much larger than two drives. Is it possible to bung somekind of RAID card into the PCIE slot, to expand the two drive limit, to something closer to 10 or 20 drives??
I am pretty sure this zimablade would not run 20 hard drives, but you can add ZimaBoard SATA Card, 5 Port PCIe X4 Controller Card, SATA Controller Expansion Card to Support 5 SATA 3.0 Devices Support SSD and HDD
No ABSOLUTELY NO. These CPUs can NOT support any kind of RAID or ZFS volumes or external cards as they have only four PCI-e lanes Rev 2.0 avaliable to PCI-e connector.
That means that they run ONLY SATA-2 speeds and NO SATA-3. Any card connected to PCI-e x 4 Lanes Rev 2.0 , reduces its performance by at least 50% !!!
Is 2 drives the maximum or can we add some sort of expansion to increase the disk storage ?
Oh I really like the look of that. Very cheap NAS / Plex server.
cool server
cool looks like a nice bit of kit, thanks for sharing
Looks great! Can you show how to run Hone Assistant on it with NAS? Thanks.
Sweet video!
Can the zima blade be used to set up a cloud storage server for remote working?
agreeing with others, very interesting product alternative to traditional NAS, being new to networking, can you run this as a NAS & media server concurrently?
Yes.
I was about to comment that the ZimaBlade will give the off-lease mini business PCs used as cheap media clients (HP Elitedesk and the like) a run for their money, with a smaller form factor and better energy efficiency at comparable base price, but without built-in WiFi and memory not included it's not a competitive solution. Too bad. 😞
Should always have your NAS wired to the router anyway but yeah, it is a shame there's no dual-channel RAM.
@@Cyba_IT Note: I was talking about media CLIENTs, not NASs. And yes, a wired connection to a common switch for any kind of server configuration is recommended.
its possible to connect there more than only 2 dics to run them with Raid 5 ?
Is the device seen as a multimedia one?
Hi ya, very nice indeed to see if this small baby can do CCTV server for any IP camera. Can you please help to check in the apps for me. Love to see something like Synology surveillance system.
Fab-tastic,. Being a bit naive sbout this sort of thing, does it run Windows 11 and how do I install it please... wow this seems from yopur discription yep Fab-tastic
COOL
Thanks
Can u do video game servers?
A Celeron processor for a server ? - The clock speed of the dual core processors won't be very powerful.
It's a server you don't need a core i9 to run small server tasks a celeron is very good for basic compute tasks
@@potatoes6390 You may not need a Core i9 to run a server, but I wouldn't try to run one with just a Celeron processor. It might be OK for light use, but under a heavy load it would really struggle.
@@NomadicNight majority of server tasks you probably won't need anything more running home assistant or running a small Plex server/nas really don't need a whole lot unless you need to support a large workload however I could see if you were trying to run machine learning work flows it might be a bit of a stretch but generally a celeron is all your basic homelaber or tinkerer needs
@@potatoes6390 Ok.
👍👍👍
Cheers
Is it strong enough for a small game server?
NAS
Wifi???
Crowd funder? Hahahahahahahaha 🤣😂! Nope!
Thumbnail is Clickbait.
How?
Don't start with that clickbait nonsense, coming across like a troll
@@Britec09 where’s the woman in the thumbnail? It’s misleading and Clickbait. You’ve been doing it a lot lately.
@@mikebaker2927 Well if you look at the thumbnail for information to the video, that's a you, problem, personally I look at the video title and the uploader, i.e Britec, and make my judgment.
@@mikebaker2927 Its called marketing. Its used in tv adverts, web design, banners, promotions, packaging and just about everything else, hope this educates you.
ABSOLUTELY NOT accurate demo. you will get NO OS on your Zimablade. You will have to download and install the OS yourself by using a USB.
Buyer be aware!!
first lol
