Tyler Orr Maybe what he meant was the level of detail? You don't really need to base on something real for your own creation to come alive, otherwise it would be a copy.
This dude knows how to build a capital ship, even if by happy accident. Every ship is gorgeous, and incredibly practical in layout and shape, save a few things given up for style points.
Never seen better, each ship is awesome but as a fleet it really is a sight to behold. What I would love to see next year is the guys they are fighting.
Various other builders and judging groups "pimp" displays they like by giving out these little trinkets. This includes the tic-tacs and the game controller as well as the tree.
It's taken me a while of thinking about my own ship designs (not in LEGO, no idea how to build those ideas) to finally realize that of I wanted to draw them in all their glory I need to come up with stuff that is equally cool (and drawable) for them to fight against.
Oh yeah I think I saw the Aura last week online when I was looking for things to match the 2D image of my space D&D ships. I managed to find a fighter that fits pretty well so far. Carriers are OP lol.
I'm always curious how do all those people come up with such buildings. How looks the entire process starting from picking the right bricks and finally designing a finished product
Two things: 1: Trial and error and 2: Inspiration. You just... know... how it should look. and just know... what to use. Its all instinct and on-the-fly decisions... Like he said about making the shuttlecraft... He just sat down with some random pieces (greebles are just small pieces that connect funny that make interesting details on the outsides of ships) and tried stuff out. Its all an art of inspiration.
These ships look way better than everything space related that comes from LEGO (except maybe the really large Star Wars models) Is there ANY way to get some sort of a manual for such things?
I'm curious what typically happens with these massive builds after the trips through these shows? Do they break them down for another build? that would be heartbreaking... yet they are huge. Do they auction/sell them? Donate/display at museums? Hoping there is something being done to retain these somewhere.
Depends. Personally I have a room with shelves didicated to holding builds I'm really proud of, but the rest I break down to build new stuff after they are shown. It depends on the creator and how much space you have. It isnt easy to get your hands on large amounts of some of those pieces either
+Lil' Moe "It isnt easy to get your hands on large amounts of some of those pieces either" easy is the wrong word here mate, cheap fits it better. You can get every Lego piece you want and also fast, that is if your wallet has the right size^^
He even said he had to buy literally ever of that one orange piece that was on teh market... So yeah... unless he heeds to scav them for parts.. they usually just put them on shelves or in storage.
The orange is really nice, but could you have added... more color? some red here and there? maybe some blue? perhaps some 'danger' zones with black and yellow stripes? Like.. beware of moving platform kind of stuff? Otherwise it's really nice.
So first- I do know how to say Har-binge-r - but Brickworld is 20 hour days of mayhem and tired tongues happen! Never played Homeworld, but I do have a soft spot for “realistic” military shapes. This meant Halo UNSC, Sins of a Solar Empire and a little bit of Star Wars are all in here. Does mean I should checkout more Homeworld though. Two of the four are on Flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/zcerberus They are sitting in a big sterlite contain in my basement. Still have Brickworld build hangover!
I'm getting homeworld vibes. If the color scheme would be navy blue and white/yellow instead of orange and with you could sell them off as being Kushan designs.
these designs look great but look like an early version of unsc ships from halo like a few centuries before they were finally implemented but that's my imagination to it
I really can't fathom how people add all those tiny little details. I have trouble picturing details in my head, which doesn't bode well since 3d modelling is my hobby. Does anyone have any tips or "algorithms" or "formulas" that they use for adding small sci-fi details to models?

These ships are really great! They look immensly realistic. The scale is perfect! Such an awesome creation!
I feel like there's some irony in something that can look realistic with nothing real to base it on.
Tyler Orr Maybe what he meant was the level of detail? You don't really need to base on something real for your own creation to come alive, otherwise it would be a copy.
realistic compared to what? The giant spaceships floating in space right now in reality?
Yeah

We're all just going to ignore the tree with the face?
Captain Treebeard for you son.

Rewatching in 2019. Still great.

I love those industrial looks on the space ships
Somebody's been playing Homeworld! ;)
Kaleban was looking for this comment
Honestly they remind me more of the minmatar ships from EVE
Kaleban glad someone else had the same mindset when looking at these
Really gorgeous ships! I have been following the progress of the fleet on flickr, so I'm really happy to see them together and on display. :)
I love the orange and grey color scheme with the white lines.
This guy should build a fleet to fight the one he already has.
It's taken me a while of thinking about my own ship designs (not in LEGO, no idea how to build those ideas) to finally realize that of I wanted to draw them in all their glory I need to come up with stuff that is equally cool (and drawable) for them to fight against.
I love all those quad guns
This is art! Belongs into a museum of some sort!
Brilliant builds. The shaping reminds me a lot of the battleships from Korben Dallas's dream sequence from The Fifth Element
They look very good !

The harbinger is just up my alley

They look like the Rebel ships from FTL
I give you the color scheme that is bang on, designwise though, less so.

Great work! Thanks for talking with us.
Just saw this video today and I absolutely love the way your spaceships look.
this guy needs to build a carrier in the same style that and a smaal corvette is all this fleet needs
Do I detect some heavy Homeworld influence on these?
Because that rules!
do you guys know of any table top fleet games that use bricks like brikwars or brikspace?
He should build an Eagle transporter from Space : 1999.

what if you scaled it to the micro figures from board games or those ant man and harry potter castle figs?
"nookyaler" -- *eye twitch*
next time will be minifig scale!
Great
This dude must be a fan of the Homeworld series.
I want them
