  • Go with Aaron on location as he demonstrates his Gouache painting techniques. Gouache (an opaque watercolor) has it's own set of hurtles when it comes to painting. Here Aaron takes you through some of those hurtles to pull back the curtains on the use of this fun medium.

So nice to see someone painting in an area that I am familiar with.. I have been enjoying painting with gouache for several years now and meet with a few friends most Fridays at Gemini Spring to paint. Sometimes oils, some pen and ink and, my new favorite, gouache. Thanks for the lovely painting and the interest in gouache.

I always struggled with landscape sketches. However, I always tried to start close and work my way out. Your method of starting with the horizon and working your way in makes way more sense. I'm going to give it a try and hopefully I'll improve. Thanks for the helpful vid!

What a wonderful demonstration of perception in nature. Color, tonality, lines, shapes, detail, near-far. As a photographer I learn so much from your demos. Thanks.

I love your painting but for me the more interesting subject was at your feet wth the rocks in the water. The reflections of light bouncing off that water is cool. Anyway you’re still one of my all time favorite artist your simply amazing, keep up the great work.🌹❤️👍🏽

Thank you so much for all you do and share! I'm learning so much from the lessons on here and your website. It would be awesome to see a video on painting translucent/fluid-composed creatures or things thicker than water, which I've found really challenging because of how they affect light. Particularly when the light is behind them, shining through toward the viewer. The ocean wave lesson on your site has helped me greatly when approaching water and how it's fundamentally lit and shaded, but I'd be so cool to see a video specifically on something translucent with a light behind it.

    Dear Mr Blaise,
In one of your last very moving video about « the importance of sketchbook » you talk about using Copic markers sometimes. I’m a big fan of your Art, and so far I remember, I’ve never seen any video of yours with this medium. As I recently bought a set of this markers and try to use them, i would be very interested to see a demonstration ( if it matches the expectations of your viewers ofc). Thank you so much for all your precious advices. Regards, AH

i've just watched this video, for the third time lol and i must tell you that aside from enjoying watching your process as you paint this scene, what i really lovely is how you almost fall in love with gouache, again, as you're doing it lol i've been a watercolorist for most of my life, and i started playing with gouache about a year ago now, and i am just so in love with it!! i never expected to love it so much ( had heard so many artists mention how difficult it is to work with )..
i'm NORAKAG on instagram and i've posted lots of my pieces there...
anyway i just wanted you to know how much i've enjoyed your videos, and especially love how you talk through your " process" as you go.. that is invaluable to me, and so inspiring .. take care ;-))

I like when you sketch and looks up at the subject and your hand keeps going. Kind of like a guitar player. Great stuff!
I wonder though, why not have the palette on the brush hand side instead of reaching across. I'm left handed too but I change things that don't suit me in this right hand world.

Say Aaron, since you're in the Florida area- do you think you might do some sketch studies at one of the alligator farms, like the session you did at the farmyard? I found that video so relaxing and helpful but I can't get out very often due to my health D: and seeing gators in your signature style would be really cool if you haven't already covered them yet in another video or course!
