I like learning about other ways people play sona! I’m a sona otp and I usually prefer playing really aggressive with dark harvest runes and ap items. My most passive is going aery rushing first item helia and figuring out whether or not to switch over to ap or continue healing :) appreciate the sona guide!
Loved the guide, sometimes I like to build RoA into enchanter items and seraphs. Situationally I also like to go for spirit visage or frozen heart. The build is not optimal, but it’s more forgiving on bad positioning. Anyway, back to the guide. I think it’s really well structured, you cover the most important points without painfully extending the video. Much appreciated. I’m sure if you’ll keep it up success will find you :)

thx for this guide! i just started playing today and without knowing anything about any of the characters, except that i wanted to play moslty passive support, i went on the "support" tab and chose one i thought was pretty haha, i picked sona (which i really enjoyed) and then someone recommened lux as my first free champion and i hated her gameplay 😭 i couldnt heal or protect anyone nor could i aim as player are constantly scurrying around the map and i would miss my allies and enemies 💀 so i switched back to sona knowing i could pull more use out of her even tho she is weaker on paper, this will def help me have some guidance in how to make her better and not look like a useless clueless noob to my peers lol

It's wild to think that Sona is one of my favorite champs and I didn't know that W Power chord reduces the targets damage dealt! I thought it reduced their healing. I already knew how to play Sona (although not as good as I thought LOL) but I enjoyed your rune/item choices depending on how the game is going and who your opponents are. Smolder is another good scaling partner too!

i've had a lot of success rushing frozen heart first item on sona, but taking presence of mind and cutdown for the lack of tear cope. i wouldn't rush it if i'm not laning against ad / ad jungler though. abusing the gold cost of frozen heart and the stats it provides really helps sona's early game when im tussling
fair enough, thats an interesting strat. i've personally never done that but i can imagine it to be pretty good against full-AD comps as u can counter them from the outset of the game

I'm OTP Sona. I play her with Fleet. I feel mobility is way stronger and consistent on teamfights. Also is an amazing tool to go in, poke, and go out safely during laning phase. Zooming after using the passive is stronger than aery imho. Green and purple passives are the best.
I feel like your second rune page is better in most situations since Sona doesn't really need any extra help in the late game, but struggles in the early game where those runes would be the most helpful.
@@shiique Its a blast. But its also based around my understanding of how agressive she can be. Which, is not always a good thing. Defiantly something to learn though just to have as a back up strat for her.
I don't build tear, I'd rather have more regen. I mostly recall with 500-850+ for dual fairy charms and boots. Then I aim for ardent and flowing water later on the game.

i like to run scorch sometimes if i want to try and win lane! i like to run it with presence of mind and cut down - it just allows me to have more lane pressure. But overall the better choice would be gathering storm as winning lane on Sona is hard to do - sometimes I just wanna try stomp :)
My 2 cents as a diamond Sona otp DREAM MAKER IS A FAKE ITEM. Looking at the stats dream maker will almost ALWAYS have the highest numbers of any support item, almost 2x as much, but this is because the numbers are FAKE. The damage counts for when your ADC hits ANYTHING, including minions/jungle camps and ?towers? (havent seen that one but I assume it does too) You can go 2 full minutes without fighting, just farming in neutral with your adc, and the damage done on your item will go up by ~750 because he's pumping the 90 dmg into minions with 0 resists. And the damage blocked is also so fake on a shielding champion, on Soraka that 140 will be applied directly to your ADC's HP bar (and aery shield) so it actually translates to value, but on a shielding champion the shield usually has to be 100% popped to make that damage actually mean anything. If you shield someone for 200 and the enemy hits your adc for 200, the shield is gone. If you shield someone for 200 with shitmaker and they hit for 200, the shield will be left at 140 in which case it has the CHANCE to actually matter (the shield lasts 1.5 seconds remember, so it won't in MANY cases) yet the item proudly declared that it blocked 140 damage, even though at the end of the shield your ADC's HP bar will be the EXACT same with or without. Claims 140 when it blocked ZERO. I'm not claiming this happens EVERY time the item is used, but these scenarios do happen and it inflates the item's perceived value by a lot. It's still the best item in many scenarios, just because it's the ONLY item that provides any kind of survivability for people other than you, so take it when *one* of your teammates is hypercarrying and your only job is to pump stats into this one guy. When choosing summoners on any enchanter Heal should be the default as it works with revitalize, heal and shield power, and applies item/rune effects like aery, moonstone, ardent, staff, etc. while your ADC has zero synergy with the summ beyond the ms. It's worth noting that Sona's passive devalues ability haste as you stack it, as it gives you 60 that doesn't stack separately from normal ability haste, and all of your items have it except ardent. As such swifties are the higher WR and higher impact option compared to ionian, especially after ionian was nerfed. However, I've also ghosted quite a few grandmaster Sona players in NA and EUW who don't even buy T1 boots until they've completed their first item (often seraph's embrace), as the gold is hard to come by and Sona's E allows her to rotate around the map at decent speeds without boots, leaving their only benefit to be in-combat ms (still valuable in many games but not necessary). Getting archangel's 900 gold early is way more impactful for objective fights than T2 boots ever will be. I've watched multiple high elo Sona's wait for gold in base to buy dark seal over t1 boots, so you should definitely consider trying out the bare-toes playstyle. Even in hook lanes, the chance that early boots make the difference in dodging a hook pales in comparison to having nearly unlimited mana with tear + lost chapter 900g earlier and better stats for the ensuing fight. You do have to position better though, boots just make Sona an easier champion to play but reduce her output to match. Flat health is almost always taken on supports as you will be exploding nexus in 90% of your games between level 11 and 13 if you're behind/ahead, so level scaling runes are usually devalued and early power on Sona is so desirable. This is another reason I always go celerity over transcendence, level scaling is undesirable + Sona devalues ability haste + celerity gives 15 ms in your E that almost gives you T1 boots in it so you can use that ability to dodge important spells even better. Swifties + Celerity + Staff 10% + Ardent 8% is fun if you have the hands to make it count. Moonstone is often underwhelming as it's actually a single-target only item. It will increase the shield on only one of your players, and will chain the heal only once per ability cast. So that sick looking 45% is only on your *staggeringly huge* single-target sona shield, and you may be left wanting in the numbers department. This is why Moonstone is NOT a good first buy on Sona, it needs AP/ heal and shield power to actually have a meaningful impact, but eventually is a pretty good item to go if your team doesn't make good use of ardent and redemption won't have as good of value. Do not discount Sona's AP ratios. If you are fighting in the jungle or your ADC just doesnt waste the autoattack on a minion, your Q has a 120% AP ratio in the 2v2, 80% of it on a single target assuming good play. In a deathball teamfight that can go as high as a 180% AP ratio, as in 180% of your AP was translated to damage, it's just invisible as monkey brains see logarithmically and not linearly. Sona's W has a max potential of 155% AP ratio, but this is pretty fake as it's only for AOE scenarios like your team just got miss fortune ulted and all of the shields were popped.
i have thought for a while that it is bad item and i forgot to mention it in my guide because of this. however echoes did just get a decent buff so i will be looking at it again soon! i think the healing output might be good for it
it can be good on her if you want to play hyper aggressive and build damage - but bloodsong has received continuous nerfs so its definitely not as strong as on release
yeah for sure! i think she's pretty strong right now since she uses moonstone so amazingly and moonstone is the strongest enchanter item in my opinion rn

@@shiique usually when I go support runes, I would get the glass into sheen. Then based off of laning phase I’ll consider whether to build lich or helia first. Although that build the only support item I’d have is helia and as soon as I get those two items, I rush storm surge into other ap items
