I am Ken Abroad, a full-time traveler traveling southeast Asia. It is my goal here on the channel to visit every country in southeast Asia and bring you along the journey.
You won’t see many tourist places in my videos, I rather like to show the “real” sides of each country in my videos. Where do the local people go to eat? Where do they hang out? How do the locals travel through the country? Stuff like that.

It's nice to see u've someone with u, the churches in Germany are quite dim though and huge, thanks for sharing this, pls try their local cuisine there, the Ilongas are sweet people.enjoy
Reason the trike can't take u is bec he claimed it would tke 1 litr of gas and it's expensive, they're sayin for u to take a jeep instead.
Hello Ken there is the province close to Iloilo called Antique name of the municipality is Sebaste where you can find lots of Filipina who live in Austria and some are in Germany. Even my mother can speak Deutsch. Anyways enjoooy Iloilo, watching from Belgium 🇧🇪
The first tricycle who rejected you was saying that to get to your destination they need to use about 1 liter of fuel which is about 70 pesos, factor in the fact that they need to return to their usual area, that's another 1 liter to get back, so that about 140 pesos up front expense from fuel alone, so the guy who downgraded from 200 pesos to 150 pesos basically made about 10 pesos of profit.
Awww 😢
The tricycle drive said, "Plaza Libertad is very far. It is better you ride a jeepney."
That s why they price the fare php150-200. Actually the drivers give honest answer.
5 minutes very far, that is some lazy ass excuse.
@@OlsenOfficial tricycles for passengers are ignored on the main roads especially around the center of the city due to the availability of much cheaper and comfortable alternatives like buses and jeepneys, and when you tries to ride a tricycle away from its usual route they don't want to do it because they can't get passenger the way back, hence the price, and if you want to pay their asking price that's your choice. We call that payment as 'arkila' or rent not a fare anymore since the route he was going was not their route. Tricycles in the philippines is just usually second or third choice for our transportation but if there are no alternatives and just tricycle the drivers will ask their own price.
I have not been in iloilo but the trycicle have their routes and if they go out of route meaning they cannot take a passenger from your destination back to their location. I think that’s is the reason why the 1st guys was suggesting you take the jeepney because they will charge you with standard rate.
The first tricycle driver was urging you to take the jeepney for it is way cheaper and has a direct route to Plaza Libertad. But you insisted on taking the tricycle because maybe you're getting used to it. Well, Iloilo City has an extensive jeepney route that covers all major areas. You only use the tricycle in out of route areas when in Iloilo City.
Hello ken those tricycle drivers are right it will be expensive since its not their route. You can ask some strangers for jeepney routes or you can ask the jeepney driver itself.
Plaza Libertad is out of their usual route, it's already outside of Molo district. Tricycles have designated routes set by the local government. You can't just ask any tricycle you see to take you anywhwere in the city, specially a big city like Iloilo. What you are asking is like a special trip so I think it's standard for them to ask extra coz there is no assurance they'd pick up passengers going back.
The guy is not trying to rip you off. The place you want to go is far and will take a lot of fuel…he was trying to explain it to you.
Please don’t just assume they are ripping you off just because you can’t understand them.
I agree. From Molo to Plaza Libertad is kinda far and usually they have some specific routes in Iloilo that only specific tricycles can go there, that’s why the first one suggested to ride a jeepney instead. They might also get a fine if some traffic enforcer might see them getting passengers from other areas.
He didn't assume that. He just couldn't understand

Hi! From Iloilo here. The Trike driver can take you and drop you off in Plaza libertad, but hesitated since it will not be practical and would cost you more. And encourages you to ride the jeepney instead.
I agree with the comments below regarding the tricycle situation. Another reason, which is the biggest reason they should have stated, is that tricycles are generally not allowed on the roads you'll need to take going to Plaza Libertad. A cab would've cost just half the price they quoted.
Hello , still amazed by hospitality in Philippines, thanks ken for sharing, i would love to be there now but at least i have your vids for philippines
The girls were caroling. A Christmas tradition all over the Philippines. I lived in a village in Makati, Metro Manila in my younger years and my neighborhood friends and I always went caroling and had a lot of fun. Most homes handed us change or goodies. In my parents house, we had a basket at the front door filled with goodies and was refilled everyday in the early evening because caroling started when the sun goes down( I guess much cooler to walk around the neighbors and it was very safe. Everyone knew everyone in the neighborhood. Those were the days. It’s similar to Halloween in the States where kids went Trick or Treating!
It’s strange though that these days, they are no longer singing any of the popular old Christmas carols. Were those even Christmas songs? Didn’t sound like anything I know.
Did anyone ever call the police on you when you were caroling? Throw water on you?😆
The old man with the first tricycle was saying it’s unheard of to take a tricycle to your desired destination. That gasoline alone was costly to drive that distance. Apparently, it is out of their usual or maybe even legal franchise area. Hence the higher rates even with the second tricycle.
That region is quite known for kindness, friendliness and honesty.
I admire the fact that you are so well educated and respectful to worry about entering the church in a sleeveless shirt and asking about it... what can I say... you Germans are in a different class level in this respect...
For tricycles, usually there’s a designated tricycle per area or per barangay, you can identify them by the color of the tricycle and sometimes they’re not allowed to travel outside of their designated areas. Tricyles is only for short distance travel only unlike the jeepneys.
200 is reasonable since they are going out of their route that’s why they suggested to ride in a Jeepney
It's a city btw. The Church is of Gothic architecture. The church & the plaza has just been renovated. The city government has been doing renovations and restorations of major church and plazas thruout the city. the most economical way to commute is by jeepney because the cost of fuel will be spread by the greater number of passengers as compared to the tricycle which can only take 2 or 3 at the most with the backride. Tricycle rides in the city of Iloilo are usually limited for short travels like 1-2 kilometers.
They have designated route where they can only pick up passenger. Since ur destination is going to plaza libertad, they are charging you more since it is out of their designated route and if incases traffic police will caught them, thet will be fined and will pay thousands of pesos. Anyways, i hope u will enjoy ur visit in the city of love. More power to you and ur channel. Thank you for featuring iloilo city
The tricycle drivers were telling you it would be expensive to use a tricycle because it was far and the price of fuel is high. They recommend you use the jeepney which would have been cheaper.
Those kids were singing Christmas carols because it's Christmas season right now here in PH you should keep some coins cos there will be plenty of them across the country lmao, kids do that here in the Ph, it's a tradition. So yea nice content, enjoy exploring the country!
that lady asking for money was just straight bat shit crazy, she had mental problem 😂
great videos I'm missing so much my own home town Iloilo i am your new subscriber watching from dubai waiting for your new vlog
Hi Ken , I'm living in Iloilo thank you for the visit. Iloilo is called "the city of love" and it is the heart of the Philippines where loving and sweet people lived.
Ilonggos in Iloilo City are MUCH honest compared to other cities e.g. Metro Manila. About the 1st tricycle driver, he was correct you should take jeep Baluarte (or Timawa jeepney too) from Molo Plaza to Plaza Libertad because it is VERY FAR (that's why they were hesitant). Jeepneys in Iloilo City have extensive routes (almost all roads have jeepney access) so you should take JEEPNEY instead. Tricycles in Iloilo City are often "special trips" (think of a taxi). You normally take a tricycle if you are out of route, have big pieces of baggage, or just shopped in a wet supermarket, etc. Please TAKE NOTE that the transport system in the Philippines (including pricing), is DIFFERENT from city to city, so don't compare the pricing.
150 pesos for that tricycle ride I think is reasonable especially if it's not their usual route. The first guy suggested that you should just ride a Baluarte jeepney because the destination is too far for tricycle drivers. The jeepney fare going to Plaza Libertad for is only 13 pesos.
They rejected it because it is more expensive. 1ltr. Of gasoline is ₱70 and it takes 2ltrs back and forth. So it is more less if you take jeepney which cost maybe 25-30 pesos.
Those people that asking for money is called “badjao” they are the people from Cagayan(Mindanao) that came to iloilo every Christmas season to ask money.
Of all the places I have been to, Iloilo is my favorite.
The kids were caroling, it's a tradition during Christmas season. They sing Christmas Carols for a little money
that trike driver would want to give you a ride, but he is hesitant coz of the fuel cost, since the location you're going to is quite far, and probably he can't charge that much and sometimes and some places trikes have their own routes, so I've heard he advised you to take the jeepney coz its much cheaper.
Wow it's nice to see that you pass by here in our house.
Ken am proud you appreciate churches even you're not Catholic or Christian but you are very respectful have not gone to iloilo its a beautiful place I loved you have shown the church inside thank you your a wonderful guy GOD BLESS
the tricycle rate is reasonable even for local passengers considering the distance and price of fuel now
My husband is from Scotland every time we go to my hometown Iloilo. He is very generous because he understands how hard life is just for ordinary worker. When he takes a taxi ride if the fare is 100 he’ll give 50 pesos tip. Even when going to restaurants.
The first Tricycle driver and the old man actually both of them did not refuse to give you a ride going to Plaza Libertad.but because of the distance is far, they don't want you to spend and pay higher fare because of the diesel(gas) that it will consume and will cost you ranging from 150-200 pesos but instead they advised you to take a Molo Baluarte route Jeepney which will bring you directly to Plaza Libertad and pay only around 40pesos for the two of you..imagine how much money you gonna saved..They're showing honesty and wanted to help you and be guided the best option on reaching your destination..
Great vid
Ken I am an American now living in the Philippines since April I have enjoyed your videos and have found the people here are very friendly
From there in Molo..is quite far going to Plaza Libertad. So, he asked for higher fare. It would be better to take a jeepney. Would be cheaper.
nice you visited Robertos!!!!! thats a classic place 👀😊
Please go to tatoy’s seafood and manokan restaurant and breakthrough restaurant, it’s two of the best and if not the most famous restaurants in iloilo
The tricycle driver said Plaza libertad said it’s to far and the gas is expensive, that’s the reason why they don’t want to take you there. They recommend you take the Jeepney.
Wow ! WELCOME to the CITY OF LOVE..... I AM PROUD ILONGGO😇 ( from Iloilo)
i am glad you choose iloilo city of Love to stay. i am vlogger too! i am here now in iloilo city. i have couple neighbor vlogger from canada i met, hope to met you soon! This is Veronica Watson vlog
Hi Ken, Joseph. Wonderful to see both of you exploring lloilo, Central Philippines. Going to enjoy the video now. Happy blessed weekend to you both 🙏
Happy weekend ✌️😊
The first trike driver was being upfront that Plaza Libertad is kind of far and that it would cost you a lot. For 200 pesos, you can already take a Taxi from Molo to Plaza Libertad. And I think there are also jeepneys that have routes going to Plaza Libertad from where you were in Molo and that's much cheaper. You can ask the locals which way would be best. Sometimes, it's better to get taxis if you're in the city coz they have meters. But if u really want to experience Filipino transport, that's fine too :))
There’s a famous German restaurant near Jaro Cathedral (at the back) called Bavaria. You should try it
He said the gas is too expensive and it not worth to drive since it's to far. The girls that were singing are common in the Philippines on Christmas seasons and in return you give them gift or money for appreciation or just plain Christmas gift. Bonifacio was a war hero, during Spanish war. Mery Christmas
I don't think it's overcharged especially it's like few kilometers from Molo and they're risk for a possible violation since tricycles are regulated on that area plus with soaring gas prices and its private ride for 2 people. Even 300 pesos is fair enough. 500 would be overcharged. But I understand you, knowing the experience you had traveling in other places.
LOL, tricycle drivers don't usually drive from Molo to Plaza libertad (can't take direct route during the day); from midnight maybe. Php150 is cheap for thay route for 2 person. You can easily ride a jeepney from there. Surprised the driver agreed 😆.
tricycle driver is saying its out of his route and if you really wanna go there, it would cost alot of fuel.
bottomline is.. its either he will charge you crazy amount for fare. or just deny you. coz you will have to pay double. going there + tricycle going back to his terminal (route)
so like the 1st tricycle driver said, just ride the jeep.
Wow! Welcome to my hometown sir! And thank you for visiting Iloilo 🥰 Proud Ilongga here💙
150 for a private ride in iloilo is fair since it’s outside the regular route. Take a taxi if you have the means, or simply take public transpo if you don’t wanna spend.
11:00 they making caroling every Christmas the kids go to home and sing to carol.
wowww ur here na sa amin in iloilo..hope u enjoy the simple life here..go around d modern areas too...
Wow mike im so happy for you i can see it in your face the excitement and happiness that soon youre one of the business man and im proud that you choose the philippines as your business location,i will come and taste your coffee, take care
The church looked amazing. Thank you.
150 pesos is taxi price from plaza molo to plaza libertad.. im here in iloilo, hope to meet you soon..
Thanks Ken for sharing another great content. Loved it too. 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Ken I hope you can visit more town in Iloilo and more cities in Iloilo. My mother is from Antique
I think the singing of the 3 girls is a Christmas song. That's the Filipino traditional serenade on Christmas called "Caroling"
Ken the Tricycle Drivers aren't ripping you off. Consider the price of petrol going back and forth, that is almost P150 pesos, plus they will take the risk of traversing out of their designated route. You should have taken the jeepney going that way, which will cost you less than 20 pesos only.
Our native language here in iloilo is called hiligaynon. Nice to hear you visit our place here Ken. You should try visiting sta barbara church. Miag ao church. And our interesting mall here called festive mall. Located in old airport mandurriao.
It's been so nice to watch all of your blogs ☺️
Kiitos!
Thank you 😊
That entire trike interaction was difficult to watch. The translation has been explained, however, the locals were being generous IMO on the 150 peso trike price and was most likely the agreed upon this price due to the foreign vlogger with camera rolling. While skin or foreigner tax is a real thing, even Hawaii has Kamaaina rates, or rates for local Hawaii residents, but what many people fail to realize is that vloggers often get better treatment due to the vlogger with a camera and may even get better treatment than a local Filipino. Like a little more ice cream in your cone, etc.
Go back to dinagyang festival every january my idol its nice to be in iloilo dinagyang best festival in the phillippines ever
You have loyal subs
Every country you get solid views
Well done
You can ride a jeepney or multicub for lesser fare.
The Visayas Region has 3 main languages: Hiligaynon (Western Visayas), Cebuano/Bisaya (Central Visayas), Waray (Eastern Visayas)
Majority of people Panay Island where Iloilo is at speak Hiligaynon. Technically, the term Ilonggo refers to the people.
The spoken dialect in Iloilo City is Urban Hiligaynon, a simplified version of the standard Hiligaynon that's being used in traditional media like newspapers, books, and magazines.
The surrounding towns right outside the city speak variations the Kinaray-a dialect, which is commonly spoken but undocumented by linguists. Karay-a is quite noticeable as you travel north of the island.
Kinaray-a is a LANGUAGE. More widely spoken in Iloilo than Hiligaynon. There's even tons of literary works written in Kinaray-a. The book Maragtas, the story of the Ten Bornean Datu is mainly written in Kinaray-a, the author being from Miagao, Iloilo.
Nice info ..thank you
Try to visit garin farm in Guimbal Iloilo and also visit the Guimbal church or visit every municipality of iloilo all of them have old churches.
Omg! 😱 Welcome to Iloilo! Hope to see you here!
HI ken! I am from iloilo home grown and i would like to recommend to u to go to beaches near this island like guimaras, Boracay, oton, and You can also explore numerous Tourist spots there!
Yeah, an impressive Spanish church indeed. Haha...what a fun way to ride on that tricycle again with buddy, Joseph. Wow, that "siau pau" is awesome, with its filling to the max. Hardly could get a "pau" with so much meat. Thanks for the interesting walk about. Again, a fun and entertaining video, enjoyed watching. "Xie xie" Ken. Hope you could visit China one day with Joseph. 🤞🤞
Ken, the 3 Girls singing Christmas Carol it is tradition in Ph. but its to early normally before its start middle of December before Christmas day.
Hello Ken, Welcome to our place, Iloilo. Enjoy your stay, go around the city and you will be happy in your Everyday Journey.
Actually it's a reasonable price since only the two of you occupies the tricycle and out of route. Usually it will only cost P20.00 per head on route destination.
Hi nice to see you again with ur fren joseph injoy ur stay in iloilo city.
Welcome to iloilo sir, hope you enjoy here.....
Heeeeyyyyy my uncle is the priest at the church. Monsignor Mau… I just told him that you visited the church on Facebook messenger… hope you enjoy Iloilo. I know you like driving to smaller towns, maybe drive to Barotac Nuevo or Pototan? My family is from both of those smaller towns… Pototan usually does a big Christmas decorations during this time of year.
Also Ken… maybe if you want a longer drive… drive up to Miag-ao. Small town, a lot of retired US Navy and I believe a few German nationals. I believe the oldest church in Panay is located there as well. Beautiful place and near the water also!
Thank you for visiting ILOILO CITY,,take care always,,Enjoy
hi ken..remember were the guys from guimeras ,the guys that offer a drink and pork adobo..

Make sure to check out Islas de Gigantes.
Time to explore enjoy the place.keep safe,😍
Hala bira 😂😂😂 ❤️❤️🇵🇭🇵🇭🏝️🏝️ nice video I love Iloilo ✌️✌️🍻🍻
Ken if you travelling in iloilo it is not good to ride in tricycle because it is so very expensive... you much take a ride in jeepney much cheeper. ...if you want a fun ride.... we used to ride in jeepney.
Yayyyy you can learn they speak ilonggo in that city have fun and safe travels
it was bonifacio day commemorating a local hero's birthday. andres bonifacio was the guy who led the revolution against the spaniards in the late 19th century. the bonifacio global city or BGC where you stayed at was in fact named after him.
Tricycles are more expensive because Plaza Libertad is out of their route. That's why they're asking for a fixed price. Jeepneys are cheaper.
welcome to iloilo hope you enjoy and stay safe bro
Nice one my friend ☺️
Good evening Ken to another journey in Iloilo 🇵🇭🎄🎄🎄
In Iloilo City the language they used is Hiligaynon and the people are called Ilonggo ..
The tricycle drivers cannot just take you to Plaza Libertad because its quite far and it's OUT OF THEIR ROUTE.
Hi Ken, from Molo to Plaza Libertad is too far, you better take Molo Baluarte jeepney of less than 20 pesos rate of fare. 200 pesos is good and honest rate if you take tricycle from Molo to Plaza Libertad. God bless.
Just try to go in Bacolod city and try the foods and visit other tourist attractions here
It would be nice if you visit Jaro Cathedral church and Miag-iao church. Those church are quiet old and nice as well.
The kids are giving you an early christmas carol.. lols... You should also check other churches like in Miagao, Tigbauan, etc... 😊👊
I am from Iloilo City and I like your German accent. We indeed have our own language that's different from Bisaya/Cebuano, it's called Hiligaynon/Ilonggo but they're closely related. It's like similar to say High German and Dutch. The city is generally safe but it's better to not let your guard down. The people are also friendly so don't hesitate to ask for help! The little girls are singing "Thank you, you are so nice/kind." Anyways happy exploring und viel spaß.
You need to go Guemaras island just infront of iloilo city
some great videos Ken. Great look the areas less seen. by the way, i live in Nabas Aklan, about 5 hours from iloilo, loved Iloilo, very modern compared to other parts ive been too. Love the people here, very nice 👍😊
Wowww...very beautiful Church❤️
