This was an embarrassing mess of an ending. Amazed at how positive ya’ll were about this. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get another game after this.
Some of the negativity around the ending has been blown way out of proportion in my opinion. I'm sure some people see a bad review and decide to take the same stance because they don't want to have the less popular opinion. This was by no means perfect, but I found it really enjoyable, they could have simplified it for sure, but overall the game was still great, some great characters (although it could have done with a few more for more variety), great locations (i think the snapping turtle is one of my fav locations in all LiS games), and mostly a great story with a bumpy landing.
Nah, Alderman just got yeeted/time-copped from the narrative with very little follow up. It felt like Deck Nine's writers just gave up and wrote him out/erased him to focus on other aspects of the story, or simply ran out of budget to do more with the character.
The authors of those books on the hotel nightstand were nods to former Waypoint podcasters, Austin Walker, Rob Zacny, Danika Harrod, etc. That was super cool
I was conflicted about this episode. Max needs to process everything that's happened to her, but the episode feels like a lot of pandering to the player's memories of the first game.
14:12 yup I totally thought we'd be getting some Life is Strange 2 shenanigans, maybe a hint of Daniel and Sean but that's okay. The way this game ends makes it possible for them to re-appear later on though. 20:38 My thinking here was sure, I'll team up with Safi but only because what'll happen if you let a shapeshifter leave on iffy terms, you'd never see them again if they didn't want you to, and Max should probably keep tabs on her for a bit.
IMO Safi is going to go completely off the rails in future sequel(s) and abuse her powers/go full Magneto style shenanigans with a team of gaslit meta humans if Max isn't extremely careful.
I loved this spoiler mode series you guys did. It was so jolly, and while the game disappointed me, you all did not. I'm hoping for a Lost Records Spoiler Mode after this.
I'm as positive as you are 🙂 But I'm always playing multiple times to experience the different options, so I both, saved Arcadia Bay and Chloe.. One thought, not sure if it was intentional, a mistake or a design decision: Did you notice that in chapter one you already have the visuals of 'dead' timeline (blue conversation options)? Could be a hint that the split happened before chapter 1 - to be resolved in part II?
Same. It really felt like Deck Nine had two ideas for different Max return stories. One where it’s a similar story to the original with the death and investigation of a friend and the other is one that builds out the LIS universe. They then haphazardly combined the two in this game instead of letting them both breathe
Same. "Time storm fixes everything because reasons..." Just felt like rushed/bad writing to me. Narratively unsatisfying, and broke my sense of disbelief. A real shame because I loved the first three chapters. Deck nine can't seem to nail their endings IMO. 😕
For me it was the ending of 3 revealing the shapeshifter element, which to me completely breaks stories like these. Now Deck Nine always has the looming super dumb and lazy twist of "oh, but that wasn't Person X...it was actually ME the whole time!" *reverb fart*
I liked this spoiler mode more than I liked the game. Huber said it best in the previous episodes when he said the storytelling was "clunky." The game opened with a compelling mystery that kinda puttered out due to us not really getting to know Safi well enough. I did kinda like the ending with its kind of Magneto/X-Men set up but I just didn't love how the got there. Overall I feel this game on its own is a 6 out of 10 at best, which is a let down for me, but I would still be down for a follow up especially if they were able to actually carry all of this games decisions into it and make it more of an actual continuation. Plus another opportunity for another LiS spoiler mode would be hella sick.
There are fewer of us, and we've been in a part-time structure since the beginning of this year. As such, we have less capacity for formal written reviews. The main content we're focused on is the weekly podcast, group stream, and patreon rewards. Still trying to fit in reviews when we can, but they're essentially a volunteer effort if someone has the time. -Bloodworth
Really my least favorite episode to play, even if I'm fine with where the narrative settled (granted, writing checks your body might not be able to cash, really only working out if you can justify making more games - bold strategy Cotton let's see if it pays off). The integration of the Double Exposure mechanic was cute I suppose but really came out of nowhere. The whole arc just felt like killing time til we came to the final choice, whatever it was going to be.
I didn't like the game AS MUCH by the end. Chapter 4 & 5 felt rushed. I also didn't like the first half of Chapter 5. Not in to things like that because they're usually too long. I also want to say, Max Caulfield is very pretty in this game.

I have no idea how you were anywhere near positive about this episode and the whole game for that matter. But I can't be mad at a happy Huber.

Shark: jumped
Get Alderman to come back, him and Max fight for awhile, but then team up and go out on cases together. Alderman x Max team up would be unmatched.

And this is where the game fell apart for me

Eleven from Stranger Things also gets nosebleeds when she uses her powers. Do we think this is the same universe? Life is Stranger Things?
I loved this game 🥳😍
So we now know Diamond has powers. Based on what she wants, what do we think her powers are?
Please tell me you guys will do this for Lost Records
I hope so! -Bloodworth
Are you guys still reviewing games? I noticed that the last game you reviewed was AstroBot.
