@@craigneidel it’s the issue where dragging an app to a folder makes it jump around and you can’t drop it into a folder. I replied earlier with a link to a UA-cam video that demonstrates the problem but it looks like the comment got removed.
I like to organize my apps on different pages in Launchpad. They used to stay put, but now I'm seeing that they are not staying on the page I assigned. How can I make them stay put again?

So... I'm one of many online who have given up using the launchpad altogether because it keeps rearranging at random. I'll spend hours getting it just how I like it, only to come back later and find that everything is arbitrarily rearranged. This has been going on for years with no rhyme or reason, and no fix in sight. I have two brand new iMacs, a 2017 MacBook Pro, three iPad minis, an iPad Pro, and three iPhones (don't ask why three iPhones) and with all of that in my arsenal, you can imagine that I'd much prefer that all of my app-launching screens are identical, so that I always know where things are. For some reason this happens on all of the computers and always has. I have never experienced this mythical universe where people see a benefit to rearranging the launchpad. It's absolute garbage for me and lacks purpose. It's not even rearranged by most-used or last-used... it's simply random chaos. I can't even blame it on a bug in one of the computers, because this happens on both of my brand new iMacs which are not set to mirror each other in any way. Have you encountered this issue or heard of it? And if so, do you know of a fix?
To tell you the truth I have never heard of that or experienced that. I'm not sure what it could be and if I think of anything I'll follow up but never heard of it. Maybe do a search on Google.
To access the Launchpad fast you can use F4, except if you have a Macbook, in which case you use pinch gesture with thumb and three fingers. That's what I use. In the old days, the application and documents folders were in the Dock by default. Now I have to add them manually which is a small bummer.
Thanks, yes F4 will work on Older macs or you need to push the globe and F4 on newer keyboard I think. Thanks for the tips on the trackpad also. Yes, you need to add the app folder but it only takes a few seconds which is nice.
Thanks for the tips Craig. I've always used the Applications folder in the Dock, don't even have the Launchpad there. I have no idea why I picked up that habit.
@@craigneidel I did run the commands and even saw the screen blink but it did not change the layout from the default 7x5. That's why I asked if I needed to log out or reboot to see the affects after running both the commands you provided.
usefull but i never use it, command space and type if i need find something, dock saving if i need quick acess and uninstall ez from application folder.

great video, i just got a new mac after 10 years of waiting and using my old imac from 09, still learning it. Question is there a way to make the pointer on screen face up to the right instead of left? As other left handed people will tell you its annoying for us not to have it this way.
can you select multiple apps to move to another page or into a folder instead of one app at a time?
I only tried one app.
thank you
Your welcome
Do you have a solution for the janky experience when trying to put an app in a folder that happens to be on the left or right edge of the launchpad?
I'm not sure what you mean but not sure if I have a solution for that.

Ok, thanks. I have not really noticed that too much but will see if I can reproduce.

I'll need to research but have not seen that.
How to change again launchpad in normal way

I still am not sure but I would search on UA-cam and I'm sure somebody may have made a video on it. Good luck.

Launchpad feels weird and underutilized when it actually could be useful for grouping etc if it was done right.
Yes, they could make some improvements for sure.

Thanks, yes I would say about 30% use it but others have no idea that you can do that. It's a different approach but I like using it also.
Thanks Craig. This video has actually been informative and will help in my workflow.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback on this.
I'm really grateful for the tutorial. It was extremely beneficial.
Appreciate the feedback. Hope you can sub. Thank you.
Do you have to log out and back in to take affect? I'm not seeing it change on iMac M1 with Sonoma 14.3.
You need to run the commands I listed and it should then work - make sure you run second command outlined in video.

Funny, I didn't even notice that. You can change the pointers in system settings but I'm not sure to be honest as it's the first time I heard that.
Good info!!
Thank you.
