I've been suspicious for awhile that Cosmic Legion isn't doing well, hence the recent 20% off sale and literally no sell outs, but I thought I was the only one who thought this. Thank you for making me not feel so alone with my thoughts.
I am a fan (and buyer) of the Cosmic Legions line, specifically because they ARE space fantasy. What is missing in he market is a pure "space exporation" line, there is none, along the lines of my old favourite, Mattel's "Major Matt Mason" from the late 60's and early 70's (which were 5 inch but with cool space vehicles). I like Cosmic Legions because they can either be space 'war' or space 'exploration' based ... plus I love a good space suit =o)
The heavy reuse probably accentuates the tropes problem. I do really like many of their alien designs though. Unfortunately any criticism will fall on deaf ears, the Horsemen have created a community that literally discourages any negativity around the line so they can hang out in an echo chamber.
I think third party sellers saw the success of mythic legions and over invested in the Cosmic waves. I believe the fan base is growing but the over investment in stock have saturated the market. I also think the horsemen are content with their inward marketing to their community. The weekly communications and lore explaining and readings really do help capture peoples imagination. One more thing. You showed ebay one dud of a figure that community did not get behind at all. The other cheaper figures were cheaper builder figures with fewer paint apps so they were initally £26 anyways
The reason Cosmic is selling for less at the moment is because there is currently a 20% off sale
and the reason for the 20% off sale is ......overstock not selling.
