During a visit to India to see my parents, I first encountered this song. It was late at night, and I was getting ready to sleep. For the past 4 years, I've subscribed to UA-cam premium mainly for Ed Sheeran's unique live versions, which I find special. One night, I stumbled upon a live version of this song (though the Spotify version came later). The combination of the beautiful melody and Ed's voice struck me as incredibly moving. Since then, I've replayed this version and the Spotify version countless times. As a musician, I performed at Seattle's Pike Place Market on June 12, 2023, and included this song in my set. I was aware that not many people might know the song, but playing it brought me immense joy and felt surreal. Thank you god for giving us Ed and his beautiful songs.
He had to ask and the crowd finally respected him to actually listen to his voice, his lyrics, his soul from the subtract album. Very grateful for this one. Special. I understand a person pays to have a great time, perhaps for them that means screaming. My preference, well, would be more of this. To hear what Ed Sheeran has to say. Seems like a very interesting person, if one were to listen.
@@matt3641 he didn’t say not to?? Even said that when he played it before, recording devices were not allowed, but on Sunday night in Paris, he felt comfortable enough playing it to the arena. I was completely quiet and hanging to his every word, as did 18k people. He said at the end “there you go Paris, in 5 years you’ll be able to say you had the first recording of this song!” so clearly, there was no disrespect and he knew what he was doing. Stop judging, you still clicked on the video in the first place.
i love how boat is a stark contrast to tides. Tides was an album opener for equals which sounded huge with the band and this tune is the opener for subtract and has a gentle acoustic guitar and some strings. Super excited for subtract:)
I know...I hope the rest of the world appreciates this less mainstream sound from him. This song is lyrically perfect, and I know when the violins hit in the final chorus(probably, maybe with some vocal layering here and there), I'll lose my shit!
That's why it's called Subtract. Because he's putting out an acoustic only album. Stripped back and raw and emotional. It's why he waited till the end to do it.
Lyrics: I came in for the embers, I stayed out for the breeze I need to feel, elements to remind me There's beauty when it's bleak I struck out long before lights down, when do I breathe? Oh I know, The more that I love the less that I feel The times that I jumped never were real The say that all scars will heal but I know Maybe I wont But the waves won't break my boat x2 Storms crash on the broadwalk, The wind rush through the trees I keep my eyes peeled The memories always fall short, of what we could have been Left out long before last call, what do I need? Oh I know, The more that I love the less that I feel The times that I jumped never were real The say that all scars will heal but I know Maybe I wont But the waves won't break my boat x4 The more that I love the less that I feel The times that I jumped never were real The say that all scars will heal but I know Maybe I wont And the waves won't break my boat
@@henrywayne5724 I know right! This is one of my favourites off his new album and when I saw it had popped up on UA-cam last night I've been non-stop listening.
@@henrywayne5724 Yeah, I managed to get tickets to the Hammersmith Apollo gig. My other favourites were Life Goes On, End Of Youth, No Strings and Hills of Aberfeldy. I'm immensely excited for this album!
@@theedsheeranillusion Omg I've heard so many great things about No Strings. Some are bold to say it's his best love ballad since Perfect! Same case with Aberfeldy. The hype for this album has been insane honestly...
It’s a lovely song with a strong message!! Remember all people go through lots of sadness and depression about loss, illness, loneliness etc. it takes a lot for someone to sing about these personal things in public. I give much love to Ed and family. Hold tight and keep on loving each other!!❤❤❤
Such a beautiful voice and such a beautiful soul! His music makes me go back in time to my childhood years and I feel safe and vulnerable at the same time. Bless you Ed!
This album gets emotional for me... I feel depressed and sad.. It about the lose of your best friend, and your loved one get sick.. When ever I hear eyes closed by ed Sheeran, I feel depressed....
I luv him sssssssm 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️ waiting for the whole album to release !!! This song is also beautiful 🥺❤️✨ omggg !! Eyes closed was on loop since the release now it's gonna be "Boat" ✨❤️😌 !! Tyssssssssm for sharing the vid 🥺✨ !!
Voy a guardar esto en mi lista de ver más tarde pues no quiero spoilearme absolutamente nada. Creo que vivir la experiencia de Subtract completa vale la pena. 💛
Thank you...the lyrics sound heartbreaking though I couldn't get some of them because of his accent lol...recording this for us international hoes is cool though, thanks!
His accent is mostly British gibberish and you have to listen carefully to understand him. When I was at his concert last year you also had to listen hard, his voice spread and you have to listen to it really carefully to understand him
It was also easier for me to understand him because I personally use British gibberish a lot, but if you have the opportunity to be at his concert again , just try to listen to his voice very much, you will certainly be able to understand a lot and deduce a lot too
Thank you for uploading this, it really struck a chord in my heart 💔❤💔 Over the past couple of years I've lost my best friend 💖and my dad💙, one due to complications with a long standing illness with no cure and the latter to terminal stomach cancer. My mum has had several health scares but thankfully is on the mend, and I've also had a number of health problems, I nearly died in 2020, not due to COVID, I have Type 1 diabetes (the type that is 🚫 NOT🚫 caused by over eating carbs, sweets/ candy or drinking too many sugary drinks etc... T1 is an auto-immune disease, my own body attacked and killed off all my insulin producing cells in my pancreas at some point around the age of 8-9 years, I was diagnosed at age 10. The time I very nearly died was by far the closest I've been thinking I wasn't going to make it through the night, there paramedics said they were "scooping and running with me to resus as a medical trauma, & they weren't kidding. You're not breaking it to me he literally said it in the begining of the video ahah, I meant live debut as in: a fully public arena were recording devices were allowed
Ed should be the one to release it, not an entitled person who wants the credit for sharing his newest song first. He shouldn’t have to ask you not to record, you should respect Ed and his artistry enough to allow him the freedom to release this song to the world when he is ready. You’re a disgrace, clearly you have no respect for Ed or his music.

No! Hope that helps.
He said nothing about filming and releasing, he legit said he is choose to sing it cause he loves Paris, obviously he knows people would film it
Hate when the crowd obnoxiously cheers over songs
