My “why” for decluttering over the last 2 years was embarrassment. We used to own two 100 year old houses (not at the same time). They had tons of storage in them and garages that were nearly bigger than the houses, themselves. They were FILLED with things, and I don’t mean just a bit. With each move, we have had to get rid of over 50% of our belongings in order to afford the moving van! We now rent a modern house that has very little storage. Even the garage isn’t truly big enough to park two cars inside. One day, I saw the Marie Kondo shows in Netflix and was so inspired! I organized and decluttered my clothes and my closet. That was when I discovered you, Dawn, Cas, Dana, Steph, Rachel, Josh, Ron and a few others. I have stepped through my kitchen, then common rooms, then my kids’ rooms and finally, the garage (still in progress). My house isn’t messy anymore! :) :)
"If you don't use artwork and you're keeping it put away than you shouldn't keep it" is something I really needed to hear because I have like five paintings that I hold on to even though I know I'll never put them on the wall... Thank you!
Actually it seems similar with every expensive purchase. Like glasses! I discovering I tended to hang on my earlier expensive glasses. Mishap in early 80-ies, I stepped on my only pair of good, suitable glasses that suited my face shape too(a teenager, girl gets glasses!). Due to deficiencies in soviet times I found new glasses which suited my vision to be in a form that would also make an old lady ugly! After our state regained independance in 1991 I was over- the- moon when I could buy me fashionable and suitable glasses! It was luxury, poor luxury! Since the mishap with first glasses I have always kept a double . Or so I thought! I counted my glasses and the number was around 10! Absolutelt unne essarily high count when we consider change of vision with age. I tried the glasses on and halved the number. 🙃🙂 One really cannot recycle glasses as these are prescription items. Wishing everyone a clear vision for the future!
Enjoy your channel-- my motivation for decluttering is to not leave excess for my son to deal with when I'm gone. It really made sense after my son told me, "Mom, just get rid of it!" after he saw the books, albums, school paperwork, etc. I'd been saving of his things-- he didn't most of it.
A therapist once told my sister, if keeping items from someone gives you a bad memory or makes you stressed then just get rid of it. I agree. Find it in your heart to forgive them but toss the item you associate with a bad memory of them.
I have ADHD and after developing a serious hyperfixation on decluttering, every aspect of my life is so much better. I can actually work from home now, too - pre minimalism, I never could've focused within my home! So excited to have discovered this channel!
It was shoe care weekend. Sort, clean, replace boot liners, laces, sorted out the shoe care tin( large walkers biscuit tin). Still one more pair to clean when I get home.
hahah the eyebrows, I have that issue myself lol. On to binge watch your videos! Thank You so much for all the tips! I hope you had a beautiful Mother's Day!! 💕💕💕
Hello friend and YT sister! I'm so glad I found you! I have just started decluttering my spaces again as I have a hot mess. This is so motivating! Oh WOW you are my Nursing Sister as well! I worked as an ER Nurse too! lol. I am a stay at home mom & housewife now & am determined to clean up my hot mess! To answer your question I am just flustered that my passion for home decor has prevented me to upkeep my home & also working with a disabled body lol. TFS! Hugs,Love & Many Blessings!💕💕💕
My clutter makes me feel stressed and anxious 😟 I am doing a little at a time mainly due to physical restraints. I will eventually get to where I want to be. Thank you for the video!
step by step, for sure you will get to where you want :) I did step by step too :) and I feel arriving finally close :) i feel much serene now :) just I have to deal with my desk now but all around is serene so I feel free to focus on this last bit now :) step by step :) good luck ! :)
I just love your channel, thank you for producing it. My family are here in Nanaimo for the month (from the States) and we love it! It is so beautiful...just wish there was a bit more sun. We are staying in a rental home and I keep thinking about how I can make my home more minimal like this place we're living in. I think it will help motivate me when we get home later this summer after our travels to really cut the clutter!
I got myself from very overwhelmed because I wasn't keeping up between house and work. Once I got the basics cleaned, it makes a huge difference. So it looks like basic cleaning before work on days I do evening shifts. Floors, tables, and a load of dishes are my top 3 hot spots. Bathroom is normally first thing in the morning or when I wake up.
Just discovered your channel! I'm on the West Coast too (the Lower Mainland) and was a Unit Clerk for 23 years, so some common things! I super appreciate your storytelling, humour and encouragement. I'm just starting out with minimalism...I say I'm a wannabe. One thing I find I struggle with is I need to use up a bunch of stuff that won't be replaced, but I can't waste it (environmentally) so it's very slow. Today I cleaned out a basket in the bathroom...small steps, but it felt good. Glad I found you, thanks for your work!
I really get a lot out of these summaries! Having this on my mind more frequently helps me tackle it after work. Ty!! I’m getting closer to my half hour daily. I think I’m averaging every other day now, which is a huge improvement from once every other weekend (all weekend long it seemed). No wonder I was burned out for the next 2 weeks. Yay for Simplify Your Home course!!!
i have totally matter to focus with clutter and feel even very stressful ... so I am focusing actually on my desk as it was my first need :), as I sense when desk is clear, i feel much better and serene motivated :) idem with desktop on compu :) work still on process as I let it going wild for a while.. so catching up time, this video is in perfect timing, thanks :)
My MIL asked me where to start and I told her the fridge/freezer. It's one of those places that should be done more regularly so it seems like less of a challenge but can also light a flame under the ass and just get the ball rolling.
When I started this some years ago, I started with my clothes. I still have things I am not wearing, but I am still not sure if I will be able to keep working from home, so I’ve got work clothes set aside. This late in my career I don’t want to have to buy a new work wardrobe. (But Im hoping I won’t need them!)
As someone who has s.a.d keeping things just because of a memory yes is very worth it. I wouldn't remeber anything about my 5 kids births or childhoods or my marriage or my childhood without a visual trigger to remeber it because my brain is screwed up and doesn't work and most aphantasia people (there are millions) have the same issue
Am a nurse too. Think I am possibly working late to avoid to going home. Tasks at home seem unsurmountable!! So much work to do and nowhere to move anything too. Walk through door and want to go straight back out again!!😂💟😂😭
I started in my wardrobe. First, worn out clothes! Second, clothes that dont fit me! Third clothes that dont suit me! Fourth, clothes I don't like! That was it. Bingo!
Heaven? Have you ever lied, stolen used God's name as a curse word (O-M-G)? According to God's law, you're guilty, ignorance will not be an excuse... But wait, God loves you, he made a way out. God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him will not die but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Please think about your eternal life, believe and repent, even after rapture you can be saved. Love Y'all
God loves me and probably is ok with me comparing living in an amazing, comfortable and decluttered home to heaven. God invented artistic license after all.
"Left hand, bad," made me chuckle 😁
hahaha!

Woohoo!! Kristin! What an awesome story, thanks for sharing!
I am looking to become an essentialist so this is a stepping stone
Ooooh, love that!

Thanks Ariel! Artwork is hard to declutter, but why dishonour it in a closet.

Oh, I’m so glad!! I am also SO glad to see the Robot Devil from Futurama! He is hilarious and we always mimick him!
Five minutes a day helps us. Get trash out. Over time, it makes a big difference. It also helps keep us motivated.
I started on my minimalist journey with clothes. It does tend to be an ongoing thing.😊
Oh for sure!! It always will be
Oh my goodness!!! I use that same coffee mug every single day. It makes me so happy!!
Cool!! I love it too!
It was shoe care weekend. Sort, clean, replace boot liners, laces, sorted out the shoe care tin( large walkers biscuit tin). Still one more pair to clean when I get home.

excellent!! thanks Luna!
Just do it. Just start. It’s the only way to conquer clutter.
My MIL asked me where to start and I told her the fridge/freezer. It's one of those places that should be done more regularly so it seems like less of a challenge but can also light a flame under the ass and just get the ball rolling.
Totally! Very smart place to start too
Thank you
thanks for watching!

Then you should definitely keep hose things

Clutter or areas that I can’t seem to tackle loom over me like a gray cloud. It does stress me out and my husband doesn’t understand it.
Lol 😂 I do my eyebrows done in the car 🚗
It is THE best spot!
👍🏻
You look and sound like Linn White from a cleaning channel i watch. Are you sisters?! Its just startling how alike you sound!!
haha, nope! I’ll have to check her out.
