- Southwest Virginia’s Whitetop Mountain Band made their first UK tour in 2008 and soon became regular visitors. This is the all girl line up on their appearance at the Green Note in London in 2018. Sugar Hill gives Debbie Bramer and Martha Spencer a chance to kick up their heels while Emily Spencer vocal and banjo and Kelley Breiding on guitar provide the rhythm. Martha isn’t the first in the Spencer line to be acclaimed for her dancing a relative William Troy (Uncle Bud) Spencer appeared as a dancer at the 1933 Whitetop Mountain Festival which was captured on film. Also in attendance then were first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and a very young Albert Hash. Albert of course was the founder of the Whitetop Mountain Band along with Thornton Spencer.

The banjo player really sings!
Perhaps you haven't noticed the fact that this track features dancing by two members of the group. If you want to hear banjo player Emily Spencer singing there are plenty of other tracks by The Whitetop Mountain Band on You Tube and on numerous recordings where you can hear her. Take a look around.
My apologies I misread your post. Must cut down on the booze.
