    Since the launch of the Shearwater Peregrine, divers have been asking Shearwater to create an air-integrated version, with questions such as "Where is the AI Shearwater Peregrine?" Well, today I'm happy to say that I was able to test out the all-new Shearwater Peregrine TX, an air-integrated version of the most popular dive computer Shearwater has ever released. Simply pair it with your Shearwater Swift transmitter and you'll have an all-inclusive diving experience with air pressure and digital compass right on your wrist. This launch fills a space in the market to offer a more recreational version of the popular Shearwater Perdix 2, with air integration, similar to the recent launches of the Shearwater Tern and Shearwater Tern TX versus the popular Shearwater Teric. In this video I tested the Shearwater Peregrine TX for a few weeks before launch and share my thoughts on this new dive computer.

    Bought it, dove it, love it! Highly recommended. This review does a great job showcasing the features and explaining how it works. Overall, taught my wife and friend how to setup and use the Peregrine TX in under 15 minutes. Put more than 3 hours underwater with it this week and am in love. Readability and usability rule! Upgraded from an LCD display as I'm aging, and could see everything I needed at a glance. Was torn between watch style (Tern/Teric) and this 2.2" wrist display. For me, the Peregrine TX was the right choice!

    Shearwater has been killing it lately. This new Peregrine TX is one hell of a unit. It's probably the last dive computer a typical recreational diver will ever need.
    If I didn't already have a Perdix 2, I would totally buy one.

    Great to see Shearwater continuing to update their line. General question - as an instructor, do you recommend wearing computers on your right or left wrist? Or does it really matter? Some say wear on the right since you use your left hand to control the LPI. Thanks…

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  29 днів тому +2

      Honestly it doesn’t matter haha. I wear mine on my right in MOST cases, but sometimes my left because I wear my watch on my left hand normally. The right is closest to where I put my transmitter (also right side) just for my 1st stage’s layout, so I get better comms wearing it on my right. When I have two computers in a normal dive, or tech dive, I’m wearing one on each wrist/forearm.
      Left hand for LPI is true, but you can have it on your inside forearm and look at it as you hold your left arm up so your right arm can control an unresponsive diver, panicked diver, whatever other situation. So there’s benefits too, haha.
      Ultimately I say go for comfort and just make sure it’s on the same side your transmitter faces for better comms, though having it on opposite side works fine for me 99% of the time. The other 1% I may just raise my arm a little toward my tank valve to get closer 🤷‍♂️

    Thank you for the informative videos! How did you get the main color on your screen to pink and the Title color blue? I have the Peregrine TX Sift and the only options for main color are: green, white, and red.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  3 дні тому

      Hey! I’d have to check mine for colors again, but I think the pink was when it was underwater? So it was probably red that faded some with depth (since the color red fades first underwater).
      But now I’m not sure and wanna double check 😅

    Didn’t order the transmitter as I haven’t used AI before- but guess I should get one and relegate the console to the spares bin.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  21 день тому

      You can keep a basic SPG as a backup, that’s my preferred method. But the good thing about getting the TX is now you’ll have the option to add that transmitter anytime

    • @Sean-qk5mv
      @Sean-qk5mv 21 день тому +1

      @@CircleHScuba I know many use spg and AI, but starting to realise it’s overkill - I wouldn’t carry an additional spg, so… I need to trust in the equipment. If the computer (or spg) fails you’d call the dive anyway. Maybe when I’m into heavier tech dives I’ll change my mind.

    Do you need a special Regulator for the Air Integration Sensor? Is the sensor attached to the Cylinder?

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  27 днів тому

      You need a high pressure port available on your first stage (the part that attaches to the cylinder). The transmitter screws into one of those high pressure ports and that’s it!
      Most if not all regulators will have a free port for this. The high pressure port is on the same level as your SPG’s hose would be now, so you can either remove the SPG or remove a “port plug” to put the transmitter in. Hex/allen key is all that’s needed for that.

  • @nfthach

    I was starting to save up for a Tern TX. I really love the Peregrine’s screen - it’s a no brainer for me. I’ll miss the Remora straps - but I like the longer bands on the Peregrine that play nicer with thick wetsuits.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  29 днів тому

      The Tern TX comes with 2 size remora straps for dry suits/thick wetsuits. The peregrine TX has the one size strap and then bungee as well which is preferred for dry suits usually.
      They both fantastic. I own both now and for me it’s like I said in the video - do you want a large rectangular screen or a slightly smaller round watch style screen.

      My best suggestion if you’re that torn is to buy both, jk, though a backup computer is never bad lol.
      Realistically, I’d try wearing both in your local dive shop and just see which you prefer for fit and readability.
      I prefer my Perdix over a Teric just slightly more due to screen size, but I also wish I could wear it all day as a watch when I’m on a dive trip for example.

    I have done hundreds of dives on my shearwater. Love it. But not sure what the point of air integration is on a tec computer. For simple rec diving there is no need for such a good computer.
    This may be marketed as rec, but is not worth the premium for rec diving.

    • @CircleHScuba
      @CircleHScuba  29 днів тому +2

      Well the peregrine is still available and isn’t going anywhere. Honestly a lot of people I know don’t ever want to go back to a SPG after using air integration. I have a video coming out on the 31st about why I think air integration is so critical. I hinted at it at the end of this video.
      It’s fine to go non AI, but I really do think it’s the future path.

      @SubmergedAngel 29 днів тому +3

      @@CircleHScuba don't disagree. I definitely think air integration is basically a must for single tank divers. (which must be 99%). Just that when I get asked by a rec diver what computer to get, there are many available at a more reasonable price point with AI. Not as good a quality sure. But most divers will only look at the main screen info and dive log.
      Great computer, sure. I guess my point is that there is better value to be had without much compromise that also does everything most divers would need and use.
