Every year since 7th grade, I do hula dances in the talent show, to show people my culture and passion. My dad is half Hawaiian and I grew up listening to a lot of island music. Not many people here in America know what hula dancing is and why it is important. Doing hula shows people that there is more than just Ballet and hip-pop. It really shows who I am and where I come from. It makes me proud to show people I'm more than just the 3/4 Caucasian they see but the 1/4 Hawaiian they could get to know.
I am a hawaiian who has never been to hawaii-this song makes me melancholy for a land and people I've never met. It speaks to my heart, thanks Hapa for bringing your aloha spirit to Santa Barbara. Lisa Leilani Hickerson
This album by Hapa was the winner of 6 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards including Album of the year. You don't have to be from Hawaii and understand the Hawaiian language to appreciate this beautiful music.
I can't stop crying listening to this song my father being 100% Hawaiian. It all new to me. He pass away when I was young. Love being Hawaiian. Kaio Bloodline
These guys make this mainlander wish he had been born on the one of the islands! I love the islands and the lifestyle sooo much! The Aloha that is all around is how the whole world show be. When you come back to the Pacific Northwest, I will be in the audience where ever you are. Mahlo for bringing these wonderful sounds and words to the mainland and to all of the islands. You guys are the best!!
Hapa is the one group that is always on my playlist at work, on my laptop, on my iPod, on my phone and on my iPad. I am never with out Hapa. They make my day less stressful and remind me of the beauty of my 2nd home. Coming back to my childhood home in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to one day coming back and never leaving.
Tent camping at Waimanalo and Bellows Beaches . . . body surfing under a full moon in the warm water. I can still hear the sound of the grinding sand when my head when beneath the water. Walking back to the campfire, Hapa would always be playing . . .
Used to listen to this song over and over on my mp3 player as I rode my horse in the Waimanalo mountain trails...my beloved horse has since passed, but this song keeps him close to my heart...
This song makes me realize how lucky all polynesians are to have grown up on the islands that teaches alot about life and how to make it. Im from Am Samoa and i moved here on the big island 18 years ago and it feels like i never left home. Compared to the mainland where kids run the household, technology becomes their education and disciplining your child is against the law, Disrespect is never corrected and manners are not taught.
I never truly appreciated that I grew up on the islands and the beauty of all She had to offer. I miss it everyday and realize now, that Im living on the mainland, that I was was very lucky. Local boy, always!
i never knew that i would fall in love with this music and the band soo much. my best friend made me go see them live and it was the most amazing thing i heard in my whole life . i love them and i love my best friend as well she my other half haha bff lol
The BEST of all time of any singers/songwriters. Your music helps me when I'm depressed, and joyful times. I rely on this CD for mental reasons. I saw you in ashland oregon years ago. Thank you Hapa.
The irony is that when I lived there I rejected any assimilation, the interesting part is, it happened anyway. Aloha Spirit anyone? I feel this song so deep in my soul it makes me weep. I feel the beautiful spirit of the people and the islands in my soul, it is part of me, forever.
This song is for my mother, Mona who passed away on April 25, 2010. She is and was an Ali`i to her `Ohana and her friends. A beautiful woman who graced the stage in her life with love and beauty. Your daughter, Moana ;) xo
I visited Hawaii (Maui) about 15 years ago and fell in love with the music by Hapa.. I listen to his cd and it always brings back great memories of the islands...
Marvellous music which brings back my memories from when I was in Honolulu a few years back. To me Hapa's music sounds best when they sing it in *Hawaiian* (instead of English ...). Thank you so much for uploading this great music!

Never mind, found it!! Silly me, I should have checked "related videos" (on the right) first. Ku`u lei Awapuhi is the name of the song I was after. Apparently it`s an old but a goodie folk song. I certainly enjoy Hapa`s rendition very much. So thank you "mercutioa1964" for my favorite song and of course "Polynesian Mele" for the rest of the songs off the album.
