Thank you, we tried to keep it as normal and human as possible. We welcome any hints and tips that anyone has. But family is important to us. So will certainly feature throughout the layout. Grace.
The main thing is mate you clearly love your dad and it’s good to hear someone taking care of their parents and your dear wife Grace seems a lovely caring lady
Oh they are brilliant aren’t they, even better now we are paying a bit less for them, and those models were so important to us, thank you for your feedback and watching :)
Hey, first time viewer here and noticed right off your connection to family. The hobby is a great one to have but to hear your involvement with care for them is what stirred my ear and heart. Will be back for more and look forward to the day I can pass the 500 subscriber mark. Nice video.
I think a hurricane went through the farm...buildings everywhere lol. Electric lights look good...great idea doing it as a bus. No rush, people first.. things later. Congratulations on passing 500. All the best, Andy.
The bits and bobs have come together nicely so far. The four voltage buck converter units are a great job to set the different voltages needed on your layout. Having them close at hand is good, but best to mount them in any closed plastic ventilated box away from tiny hands. Just in case any rug rats see the LED displays and their curious hands accidentally turn up the bucks. You may then wonder why there is a burning smell followed by snap, crackles and pops, and it isn't from the milk you added to the bowl of Rice Crispies, lol.
Very interested in those voltage regulators. I’ve been toying with the idea of using an old desktop computer power module as these have a number of voltage outputs and should have enough capacity but being a bloke I like shiny gadgets and lights! 😂 Sorry to hear about your dad. I recently lost my mother in law to this terrible disease (Jan 23) after 4 years of caring for her and watching her slowly deteriorate. She was only in a care home for the last 9 months but the fees themselves nearly wiped us out never mind the 3 yrs of our own caregiving beforehand. My heart goes out to you both. Stay strong and very importantly you must take care of yourselves too. Big hugs to you both (oh and yes I’ve subscribed! 😉) Malc. X
You’ve actually made me cry my friend, it’s the most heartwarming comment i’ve seen, i totally agree with you, we lost an uncle to it many years ago and it’s awful, like losing them every single day, i take my hat off to you my friend, caring for so long at home, and the hardest part of all seeing that point where it’s gone beyond where you can care for them totally yourselves, such a brave thing to do, fees are incredible aren’t they, we’ve heard (being on patient transport) of fees up to around 2k per week, these people work hard all their lives to get themselves where they can have a nice home etc and lose it all in fees etc. Mum tried so hard with Dad to keep him home, he has vascular dementia which meant it was a very quick downfall for him, i used to pick him up once a week and go to the shops, the next month he didn’t even know who i was. Our heart goes out to you and your family for what you’ve been through and thank you. As for the voltage regulators yes, John got them for the layout, and they are brilliant, as for shiny. they do have some nice LEDs to look at
Step down converter, or more commonly known as a "Buck Converter" you can also get cheaper ones without the 7 segment displays, you just need a miltimeter to set the outgowing voltage. nice vids! Keep it up 👍👍
Thanks for the info buddy, these were only cheap to be fair and besides it’s “shiny” lol, but thanks for the info regarding it and your kind words about the channel
great vehicles! I appreciate the information regarding the motivation for certain aspects of the layout. cool voltage regulators. I'm a bit confused regarding the electrical schematic but confusing me with electrics is not a difficult task :D Very nice video :)
Woohoo congrats on your 500th subscriber and yes its a milestone. And congrsts to me as im the 669th subscriber. Keep up the good work and look forward to the next lot of videos you put on here for us to watch & enjoy. Cheers from John in Australia.
I don't know what you're building but after skipping through the video I am looking forward to seeing your town/city/station. I am now subscribed.... God, I hope I don't get sucked into this hobby. I have too many hobbies already lol, but that's why I will watch people like you instead :) Good luck!
When you find out what we're building let us know lol, no seriously, its a VERY very fluid layout, we have rough ideas, but not set in stone, we haven't even decided what buildings are going where, apart from the fact we know there is going to be a fire station in it....somewhere, we are currently just finishing laying cork underlay underneath the tracks, so we can get the trains running, then we might have an idea of the step forward, thanks for subbing, and please enjoy the ride, any hints and tips etc are always appreciated

Hi guys, I've not got a train layout myself, I make plastic kits, armour, ships, aircraft etc. However I do like watching the odd video regarding model railways and am becoming worryingly interested! Your channel popped up and I like the idea of following your project so you have a sub from me. Best wishes to your mum. Had a similar thing recently when just before new year my mum fell and fractured her shoulder and elbow. Not good for a 86 year old.
Rob lucky man you found a beautiful woman who enjoys the same hobby....that's like winning the lottery!!!...just subbed and enjoyed the vid thks for posting!!..history lesson is brilliant also and how much the past of the fire service is to you guys !!!....happy to support!!!..love salt of the earth videos cant wait to see the finished product..well done guys
Empathy regarding honouring your Dad in the layout. Did you start with a track plan? If so, can you show it in your next video please. Reallyt enjoyed watching all your vlogs!
Hi, no we didn’t really draw anything down to be honest, it started off all in our heads and fell apart from there, if there’s one thing i’ve got is one heck of an imagination
You said you were going to put lights in some buildings, might I suggest that you put some walls/dividers inside them so that not all windows are lit up at the same time or at least blank the windows by putting a curved piece of cardboard behind it. It might pay to paint the inside walls black so as to not let the light show through the walls. I didn't know about the little voltage regulators, will have to look at some shops around here for them. Did you put those buildings there or was it King Kong....:)
👍👍Wonderful video! Look forward to following your build. I see I have a few back episodes to catch up, I'll get there. I'm a year into building my first HO layout (changed my mind and started over a number of times) if I'm not mistaken HO and OO are very close in scale? I very much like the way you've done the voltage control module. 🚂🚂
I believe…and anyone feel free to correct me, the track is identical and I think OO models are ever so slightly larger, could be wrong though, and welcome aboard Dave and thanks
Good work ! I'm wondering why my previous comment got deleted.... Perhaps because it had a link in it. Anyway, hope your mum feels better ! Nice that you want to honour your dad in the scenery ! Respect . I have a few tips to share about the wiring and "DC buck regulators" if you're interested. Trying to find a way to contact you by email but can't find it here.
Can I just say that it looks as if your crash car to be used in the crash scene would not have been built when your three emergency services vehicles were in service
Yeah Bob we realised it’s a bit too modern, we’re hoping to hide that face, if not now we’ve found Rhuddlan Models we can get something else without breaking the bank
I Love your human connection here. A real family fun dynamic. It warms my heart.
Thank you Scott, this is how we are naturally to be fair, not just for camera, we do try to have a laugh
