17:00 lol. I've been playing Magic casually and competitively for over 30 years. This is literally the first time I've ever seen a creature come off suspend with haste. I knew about it from reading cards, but I have never actually seen the effect in play until literally right now. Magic is such a great game.
I've had really good luck playing sanity grinding in paper magic. I run 4 Seagate and 4 sink into stupor. Also run 1 copy of ghastlord of fugue, 1 copy of overbeing of myth and 1 copy of God head of awe in the deck. They each have 5 blue pips. And if played each one can get really crazy. Haven't tried mind skinner yet. But mind skinner plus ghastlord seams broken cuz they both are unblockable and ghastlord exiles cards from their hand. I also run twin cast instead of counter spell. Turn 2 copy archive trap causes most opponents to scoop on the spot.
this deck should definitely be running more of the regular fetches and probably a surveil land. i think splashing black is too important for removal, mostly i think the sideboard needs more black cards to survive (like crypt incursion or fatal push)
The point of this variant is sanity grinding. I agree with regular fetches and a one-of surveil but you absolutely need to be playing as many blue pips as possible.
Watching this gameplay and how much you struggled with getting lands reminded of a variant I played a few years ago, it was Sultai mill with "life from the loam","pulse of murasa", and "fog". Mind trying a variant of that sometime? Surgicals and exterpates were 4 ofs lol😂
I think that mindskinner is an autoinclude for mill. BUT ONLY IN THE SIDEBOARD. 4 copies of mindskinner post-board goes insanely hard once they've taken out lots of removal. Also I would run as many fetches as possible, maybe even running only 5-6 islands to enable crabs and grinding. as well as possible.
Ngl, kinda want to build a list like this for a local FNM, thinking of replacing devastation tide with Subtlety, as tide seems to be a dead card most of the time
Hydroelectric Specimen is another flip land that can come into play untapped if need be. Or can go real crazy with Chancellor of the spires and Commandeer/subtlety.
I was thinking of a list like this but maybe with ensoul artifact and tormods crypts main deck with ornithropters like if they remove the 5/5 its the wrong target if they dont its a clock...but this seems better maybe a side board tech
I’ve always loved mill, but modern at my LGs has just been… not great. There’s been an uptick in pauper games here and I brewed a mill deck but people say mill isn’t playable in pauper, what do you think?

Bro said 3 mana 10 damage. (Effectively that's what mill 23 is...kinda? Maybe 9 damage?) They draw 7 play for 3 turns. 50 cards in deck. 25 mill is equivalent to 10 damage. Freaking sick. And yes 3 mana 10 damage Is good. Tribal Flames is 2 mana deal 5 and it's decent.
18:30 you said they did not fetch, when they just fetched. I could not see how many cards were left but you never said anything about the card count when it happened.
@@joshuaadkins2491 I thought of that too. Issue is that the crabs are worst without fetches. But maybe that’s more of an argument to play other spells, maybe interaction? I can imagine that crabs are also probably lightning rods for removal so that the mindskinner doesn’t get hit by them

its not just the suspend card its the suspend ability in itself
Id like to see what a more competitive version of this list would look like. Sanity grinding hitting 18-20 was honestly great

My guy. You should play with no lands and whenever you cast your spell that reveals cards it reveals all cards that have blue pips.

The set up for sanity grinding isn't worth it. Just run tashas/jace/surgical. Just run 20 lands you don't need 22.
